LGBT April Wrap-up Post

I know I’m a little late with my wrap-up post, and I didn’t manage to read as many LGBT books as I had planned in April. But I’m really happy I was able to participate at all – I even managed to go to a twitter party πŸ˜€ LGBT April was hosted by Cayce of Fighting Dreamer and Laura of Laura plus Books. And I applaud both of them for hosting this amazing challenge – awareness is really important. And they have started a new LGBT challenge right off the bat, this one is open until November 30th, so don’t hesitate to link up! My oldest daughter painted the button above for me, I love it!

Apart from chatting with the other participating bloggers both on twitter and on various blogs, what I appreciated the most during LGBT April was the fact that I found many new-to-me LGBT titles to add to my shelves.

Here is a list of all the LGBT books I have reviewed on my blog, if you want to check them out πŸ˜‰

A Tale of Two Mommies – Vanita Oelschlager, this is a children’s book, in which a little boy grows up with two mothers.

A Tale of Two Daddies – Vanita Oelschlager, also a children’s book, where a little girl grows up with two dads.

The Pack or the Panther (Tales of the Harker Pack #1)- Tara Lain, an adult paranormal / shifter story where the packleader’s wolfy son is gay.

The Wolf in Gucci Loafers (Tales of the Harker Pack #2) – Tara Lain

If You Could be Mine – Sara Farizan a book set in Iran, where being gay can give you the death penalty.

Frenemy of the People – Nora Olsen, an excellent YA/NA story with lesbian and bi main characters. Well written and quite fun in many instances.

Rush – Nyrae Dawn, an adult M/M romance, where especially one of the main characters feels as if he could never come out of the closet.

One Man Guy – Michael Barakvia, is a very sweet and endearing YA story where Alek realizes he is gay at the same time he falls in love for the first time.

Few Are Chosen by Storm Grant is a paranormal YA/NA novella. Well written and short.

Because of Her by K.E. Payne is an excellent NA story about a lesbian main character who had to move to London with her parents, and leave her girlfriend behind.

The books I added (and bought) during LGBT April are:

Captive Prince: Volume One – S.U. Pacat

The Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – Benjamin Alire SΓ enz

Carmilla – Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu

No Boundaries – Donna K. Ford

If You’re Reading This – Angel Propps

And in one of the LGBT April giveaways, I won The Red Sun Rises and The Red Sun Rises: Fire and Ash by Victoria Kinnaird.

Did you participate in the LGBT April Challenge? if you did, please leave me a link to your wrap-up post, maybe I’ve missed some books to add to my TBR. If you didn’t now is your chance to sign up for the next LGBT challenge πŸ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend.

  1. Oh, love that quote graphic! Your daughter is really talented.

Haha, actually the LGBT Challenge has been going on since January:

LGBT Month was “just” a month-long event but the challenge runs until the end of 2014 πŸ™‚

You’ve read a LOT, Lexxie! Great job! I’ve added The Song of Achilles, Frenemy of the People and Rush to my tbr, but I don’t know when I’ll get to them… (hopefully soon πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Cayce πŸ™‚ I realized after I had posted that you have had this going on for a while, I will definitely continue to participate! There are many lovely books out there, and those that have characters that are not the ‘norm’ (and I use that term very loosely – as so many books deal with white, heterosexual characters) are all the more interesting πŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by, Cayce πŸ™‚

    • Thank you, Laura πŸ™‚ I just had big plans to participate even more than what I did…

      Have a great week!

  2. I know the month is over but I’m recommending Alexandra Allred’s Allie Lindel series, it’s more mystery/suspense than romance but the heroine is a lesbian and she struggles with family and professional life. Her relationship with her partner is really touching and relatable.

    • I’m not going to stop reading LGBT stories just because the month is over, so thank you very much for the recommendation, Braine, I’ve added the Allie Lindel series to my TBR πŸ™‚

  3. I completely failed to do a post for this all month! But I started realizing that there were LGBT characters in more books I read than I realized. I think I don’t notice them because to me they just fit naturally – just like I don’t particularly notice heterosexual individuals. But this made me appreciate a few of my favorite authors even more, because they weave these characters in so naturally, just as they should be. Great job this month Lexxie -I’m going through your list to see what I might want to read.

  4. Congrats on doing so well in the challenge, even if you didn’t quite make your goals. I’m glad you got so much out of it though. And I agree with you, awareness is so vital. I’m glad this challenge was held. πŸ™‚

Tell #1 that I love her button – nicely done!

  5. You may not have reached your goal but you did an awesome job. I’ve only heard of a couple of those books. I wanted to take part in the event but I had way too much stuff on my plate at the time. I’m hoping to do it next year. Oh and tell your daughter she is an AMAZING artist. That it a really nice painting.
