Gwyn Jacobs doesn’t believe in fairy tales. Ever since her ex-husband walked out four years before, leaving her with three small children, Gwyn has been mother, father, and bread-winner all rolled into one. Her own scarred heart aside, she refuses to open up her children’s lives to the possibility of another heartbreak — so she has an unbending policy of no dating and no unattached men in their lives.

Until her very own fairy tale falls into her lap... pand the hero won’t take no for an answer.

*I received a free ARC of Gwynneth Ever After from Michem Publishing via Netgalley in exchange of an honest review*

Gwynneth Ever After is your typical romance novel with a seemingly unattainable hero, a ‘normal’ but heroic woman and a slightly predictable storyline. It really worked for me anyway, though! I laughed, I cried, I cringed and by the end of the story, I definitely wanted more.

Gwyn has raised her three children alone ever since her former husband, Jack, left to get milk when the twins were babies, and he just didn’t come back. After realizing that he didn’t really feel fit to be a father, Gwyn has lived solely for her children – making sure they have all the love and security they need. Her own wants and needs taking the back seat without ever planning it that way. Gwynneth Ever After is not a fairy tale,  even if the title might make you think so. It is, however, a very sweet and somehow naive contemporary romance.

Gareth Connor is an international renowned movie star, and Gwyn first thinks he just looks like Gareth when she meets him in her local theater, where she is making drawings of the set as a gift to her best friend who has staged a Shakespeare play there. When he asks her out for a coffee, and lets her know he is that Gareth, she just smiles at him and drinks her coffee. Circumstances makes them hang out – and he meets Katie, Nicholas and Maggie; even if that is one thing no other man has managed since Jack left her and her family.

Of course, there are lots of complications when a famous movie-star starts courting a local architect, and those complications also have to do with a secret Gareth has had to keep for the past sixteen years. Gwyn Ever After is an intricate tale in some way, while still including all the familiar romance tropes that are so comfortable to romance-readers. As the outside world closes in on their relationship, Gwyn decides that flight is the best possible way to go about things. She second-guesses every decision she has made since she met Gareth, even if her own feelings are very strong, and Gareth seems to be right there with her.

A feel-good story, Gwynneth Ever After hit the exact right spot for me. Sweet and a little spicy, with believable characters and a storyline that was easy to follow I enjoyed the time I spent in Gwyn and Gareth’s company.

She couldn’t help laughing. “You’re very persistent, did you know that?” “Mm. My mother calls it stubborn. I like persistent better. “ell? Do we have a date?”

“Nice,” Sean repeated, as if tasting the word, “Nice?” “Would you get lost, please?” “What exactly is nice, anyway?” Now his cousin’s eyes danced with undisguised amusement. “Define it for me.”

The entire evening was extraordinary. They laughed until Gwyn’s ribs hurt, argued until one or the other rolled their eyes and gave in out of sheer exasperation, and shared silences that contained not a single awkward moment. Through it all, Gwyn felt herself sinking slowly into an ocean she knew better than to swim in.

“In a nutshell, yes.” “God damn it, Gwynneth-” “Language, Masters.” “Fine. Then gosh darn it, Gwyn-“

Oh, yes. He should definitely walk away. He’d be a fool if he didn’t. And perhaps a greater fool if he did.

  1. I didn’t know that she wrote contempory romance. I’m so behind!!! I have the first book of her UF series but I still need to get into it. I’m glad this one was good. I’ll have to keep it in mind.

  2. This does sound like a lovely read, Lexxie. I’ve been meaning to read Poitervin – I KNOW I have at least one of her books on my ereader. 🙂 I really like the sound of Gwyn – I can admire the strength of a woman who raises her children on her own. And I like the movie star/average gal trope as well. *sigh* I’ve gotta do some weight lifting, Lexxie, so I can put all these books on Mt. TBR. 😉

I’m sorry I’ve been MIA…I feel so behind. And you know I can’t miss any of your reviews because I might miss out on my next favorite read! 😉 I hope your first week of school goes brilliantly! And that you enjoyed your last weekend of ‘freedom’. *BIG HUGS*

    • Sorry it’s taken me so long to answer you back Brandee – my first week back at school has been pretty busy, as I’m sure you can imagine 🙂

I’m quite sure you’ll enjoy Gwyn a lot, and the story is well written.
