Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren't for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle - especially if they involve Atlanta's shapeshifting community. When she's called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there's a new player in town. One who's been around for thousands of years - and who rode to war at the side of Kate's father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family

Magic Bleeds features many fights and plenty of heartache and I completely and utterly loved it all!

My Magic Bleeds review:

Kate Daniels is one of the best kick-ass heroines I’ve had the pleasure to read, and she confirmed this in Magic Bleeds! She is strong, dedicated, loyal and fierce. She is also a woman who would love to be a part of something bigger, have someone to love, and someone who loves her – just for her. Of course Saiman is making life difficult for Kate, just because he wants to make life difficult for Curran, but Kate outsmarts Saiman this time, and the hotness that ensues made my kindle fume, at least I think so, because my glasses got all fogged up!

Kate’s dry wit and sarcastic tongue never ceases to amaze me, and in Magic Bleeds, she continues to enchant me with it all. Of course, Curran is no slouch either, and their word-sparring is almost as hot as their love-making, let me tell you! And of course, there is the hunt for the Steel Mary, and Kate once more showed me how good she is at getting what she needs when it comes to her professional life! I loved how she dealt with the reluctant rabbis at the temple, and hey, there was a Golem!

Between the things Kate thought she had to keep from Curran to keep him safe – which was actually very sweet but at the same time made me chuckle – and the strong feelings that had clearly developed for both of them, and Kate’s investigation and the fights, Magic Bleeds was a great instalment in the Kate Daniels series! Written in first person point of view from Kate’s perspective, the past tense made me feel like somebody was telling me a story. And the final battle is awesome. Truly awesome! Even if the outcome had me shivering even while re-reading… even shapeshifters and magic-users can be very fragile indeed.

Also, something that nearly never happens happened when I was preparing my review… When I was looking through my kindle for quotes to include, I ended up re-reading almost the whole thing, and I loved it just as much if not more the second time!

Some of my favorite Magic Bleeds quotes:

I’d believed him. He was supposed to be different, to be more. He’d made me hope for things I didn’t think I’d ever get. When hope broke, it hurt. Mine was a very big, very desperate hope and it hurt like a sonovabitch.

Who the hell would attack the Steel Horse anyway? What was the thinking behind that? “Here is a bar full of psychotic killers who grow giant claws and people who pilot the undead for a living. I think I’ll go wreck the place.” Sound reasoning there. Not.

I walked up the stairs, past a desiccated Solomon. The Guild leader sagged on the spear shaft, reduced to a sack of dried-out skin over the skeletal frame. The man who’d built himself into a living legend had died with great indignity. The universe had a razor-sharp sense of humor.

I played the message a couple of times more, listening to his voice. He’d had his chance and blown it. I’d paid for it. It would be stupid to risk this kind of pain again. Plain stupid.

“What’s his name?”
I stretched against him. “Grendel.”
“Odd name for a poodle.” He turned, taking full advantage of the fact that my breasts were squished against him.
“He came into a mead hall full of warriors in the middle of the night and scared them half to death.”
“Ahh. That explains it.”

  1. There’s a reader at my library that’s keeping book #1 hostage, I’m going to have to harrass him and have it back !! Bad reader 🙁

  2. I think this was my favorite installment in the series as well, up to this point. Oh, how I laughed at Kate and Curran’s antics. And Saiman! Ugh!! I think I’ve only read to #5, so I have some catching up to do here. I’m actually thinking of listening to the series as a refresher before I get caught up. *gasp* I know…I might come to really enjoy audio! *ha*

  3. This was my favorite one! You listed everything that is so great about it too!! Kate and Curran’s banter is fantastic. I love Kate’s personality so much. Her sarcasm and stubbornness mixed with that loyalty is just great. Wonderful review!
