He’s utterly alone…

He’s raw, forceful and a dirty talker. She’s a flowers and romance type of girl. Yet within each other, they find a mutual craving that can only be satisfied by giving in to their desires for one another.
Lust turns into something more… something they were not looking for but tentatively accept. Will it be enough to push them past the obstacles of Gavin’s bitter past?

Sugar on the Edge is darker than the previous Last Call stories, but it’s just as hot, beautiful and amazing. The characters really got to me, and while there are some small editing issues, it did not at all take away any of my enjoyment.

My Sugar on the Edge review:

Gavin starts out as the perfect British arse, an entitled author with lots of money and no empathy at all! As Sugar on the Edge continued, though, he was shown as a multifaceted and deeply hurt man, and it was very intriguing to read about him. Savannah on the other hand has always been a little more in the background when it comes to her group of friends, but she truly does need more work, and cleaning Gavin’s house seems to be the resolution to her money-trouble. Until he opens the door on her first day, only dressed in his boxers and a morning boner.

The chemistry between Gavin and Savannah was undeniable, but it was hard to imagine the shy girl and the pompous, overly open guy together at first. Especially Gavin’s darker side seemed unsurmountable, and Savannah’s sunny disposition didn’t stay all that sunny around him.  Sugar on the Edge was a great story, though, because there was so much more to both of the characters, and they were really good for each other – Savannah was able to let go of some of her shyness, and Gavin started to actually care a little bit for another human being.

Gavin’s past is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, and it certainly explained in part why the successful author he had become preferred living in his own dark and twisted fantasy-world than in the real world. When things got a little more serious between him and Savannah, he didn’t exactly step up to the plate, though, and I was really mad at him, even while understanding why he acted the way he did. Savannah’s friends, whom I had already met in the prior Last Call books, were very present when she needed them, though, and that paired with the hotness that made my kindle smoke when Savannah and Gavin were good (or bad!) together made Sugar on the Edge an almost perfect read.

Written in first person point of view, present tense, both from Gavin’s and Savannah’s perspectives, I really got to know them well. The snarky dialogues, the humor, the hotness and even the darkness and kinky smexiness had me on the edge of my seat through the whole story.

Some of my favorite Sugar on the Edge quotes:

I’m a prick, I know it, and this woman, Casey, knows it too. I’ve been dealing with her form my flat in London over the past several weeks while she’s diligently tried to find a piece of property to suit my needs. I really don’t give a fuck if I hurt her feelings though; I’ve gotten beyond caring what anyone thinks of me and besides, she’s earned a hefty commission off this sale, so she has no reason to whine.

She blinks at me in surprise, because I think this may be the first fight we’ve had as roommates. Out of my core group of girlfriends, Casey, Alyssa, and Gabby, i’m the least likely to get irritable with anyone. Some would even call me a pushover.

Gah, the guy is such an asshole… all sharp words, snide remarks and evil smirks. I’m still sort of regretting my decision to clean his house, because he screams danger and stressful times, just like Eric.
