Veterinary intern Emily can’t believe she wound up in the small town of Sunshine, Idaho, instead of the Los Angeles clinic she had always imagined. Now she has to put her plans to move to L.A. on hold for a whole year while she fulfills the obligation of her vet school scholarship.

Then Wyatt, her gorgeous one-night stand from a Reno vet conference, introduces himself as her new boss. And Emily is just as drawn to his seductive looks and quiet strength as she was on that very steamy night. She soon learns that Wyatt isn’t just a laid-back doctor, but a delicious alpha male tempting her away from her carefully laid-out plans...

Then Came You hit exactly the right spot, a perfect balance of romance, friendship, hotness and cute animals – I loved how this story unfolded from start to finish.

My Then Came You review:

Then Came You has everything I look for in a contemporary romance story: likable characters, something that makes one of them think their relationship won’t or shouldn’t work, some very hot romantic tension and a great story where I want to go back and read all of the prior Animal Magnetism stories that came before it. There is, of course, also an underlying humor following the story and the characters throughout Then Came You.

Emily hadn’t exactly planned on ending up far away from LA, on a farm veterinary clinic no less, and she certainly hadn’t expected meeting her one and only one-night-stand there! Then Came You starts out with Emily being thrown straight into helping with birthing a calf, then meeting Wyatt again, even if she is determined to only stay the time she has to as an intern before she goes back to LA to work in a plush clinic and heal the high maintenance animals of the stars.

The way the characters interact together in Then Came You is awesome, those who are already a part of the cast know each other quite well, and they love and respect each other. They have plenty of room in their circle of friends for Emily, too, though. And as she tries her best to not get involved in her new place, she somehow ends up with new friends, a hot guy she can’t stop thinking and dreaming about, and feeling as if she is really fitting in.

The writing in Then Came You is flawless, Shalvis manages the romance aspect perfectly, and is able to throw in a true mystery where some poor dogs are being used for fights as well. Emily and Wyatt work together to dismantle this fighting ring, and it is not an easy feat to finally get to the bottom of this, especially when Emily is held at gun-point. If you are looking for a wonderful romance with some nicely done tension, you should make sure Then Came You comes with you on vacation this summer. I’m sure you won’t regret it!

Some of my favorite Then Came You quotes:

She drew a deep breath, taking in the towering, intimidating Bitterroot mountain range, backdropping what could only be described as a vast, wide open valley of the most pristine, remote land of meandering rivers and lakes she’d ever seen. Emily figured it was filled with bears and wild mountain lions, and probable Big Foot for all she knew.

This tugged another smile out of Emily. Animals owned her heart, always had. Hot guys and animals… a damn fine combination. Feeling better, and far more confident, she moved toward the counter.

In general, Wyatt didn’t have a “type” of woman. for him it was about a certain gleam in her eye, a spark that said she knew life was hard as hell but that it could also be fun as hell, and she could make it work in either scenario.

And, presumably, the new fiercely determined intern that he was going to do his damnedest to ignore, as dictated by the fiecely determined intern herself. It made good sense, for both of them. Problem was, he’d never been all that down with being good.

  1. I’m glad this one hit your sweet spot, Lexxie! 😉 It sounds wonderful. I’m going to end up with all of Shalvis’ novels on my tbr because of you. I just need to find the time to start reading them. 🙂

Happy Wednesday, my friend. I hope your week is going well. Our weather was calm today. And the basement survived no worse for wear. (do you have that expression?) **BIG HUGS**
