Sidekick Saturday #3 – Fiery
Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week’s type
• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment
This week, Jaclyn has chosen a fiery side character, and there are quite a few to choose from, don’t you think?
My favorite fiery side character is Vlad in the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost. He first shows up in the 2nd book, and later on he actually gets his own spin-off series, so apparently, I am not the only one to really love Vlad’s character 🙂 He is funny, old, set in his ways, has a great sense of humor, and, of course is very sexy and dangerous. He also can use pyrokinesis which really comes in very handy in fights every now and then…
Bones: “We have to leave,” I said to Vlad. “Now.”
“‘Run, Forrest, run!'” Vlad mocked. ”
“My dear Reaper,” Vlad said, still laughing. ‘Did you just check out our-‘
‘No!’ I interrupted at once, almost lunging toward the staircase. ‘I’m tired and still dazed from the Remanats and … fuck it, I’m taking a shower. I mean, not a cold shower, because I don’t need that.’ -oh Jesus I was only making this worse- ‘because I am cold already, and I need to get hot. I mean, warmer. Oh just shut up!’ (From This Side of the Grave)
“You arrogant, overpublicized, showy old bat, what are you waiting for? Aren’t you the king of all bogeymen? The legend children fear will devour them if they misbehave? Come on Vlad, live up to your reputation! If you can’t burn to death one Egyptian vampire chained to a wall how did you ever drive the Turks from Romania?” (From At Grave’s End)
So who is your fiery sidekick? Please do share, inquiring minds want to know!
*sigh* I love Vlad too, Lexxie! He adds so much to the series – and it was fabulous to begin with! 😉 I was so glad Vlad got his own books. Great choice!

Oh, that he does! And I really love the Night Prince series as well – he is awesome 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Brandee 🙂 Sorry it took me so long to get back to you – I was in London this weekend, and the internet connection in my hotel was not exactly stable.
I love Vlad! Just as you said, he’s tough, set in his ways and has some of the best lines! One of my favorites is:
“What the hell was that?” I gasped. “Premature inflammation,” he replied. “Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing. I don’t like to talk about it.”
I was so happy when he got his own series!

LOL! Vlad’s lines are the best! I hadn’t thought about that one, I had to go through my kindle to search for highlights 😀
Thanks for stopping by, Traci.
I have not read this series. How can I call myself a fan of paranormal romance? I just started Kim Harrison. Looks like I have another series to add. I haven’t done my Sidekick yet…awesome forecast is set for the Northwest. Have a great weekend!
p.s. I already love Vlad and I’ll have to wait until book 2 to meet him!

LOL, what’s not to love, right? I look forward to seeing what you think about that whole series when you start reading it! And yes, you have to wait to meet Vlad, but there are some other characters that are really great as well 😉
Yes!! I adore Vlad. He is my favorite sidekick in this series hands-down from the moment he comes on the scene. I was actually surprised he wasn’t the FIRST one to get the spin-off but was very glad when he did. I mean, I like Spade and Mencheres, just not as much obviously. Love all the quotes you put up there and the one Traci mentioned as well. Excellent choice 😀 Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.
I know, I love Spade and Mencheres, too, but Vlad is just so… Vlad!
Thanks for stopping by Jaclyn 🙂 it’s always fun to see what you’re up to.

So, reason 2557 why I should get moving already and get into this series! I love memorable sidekicks and Vlad sounds like exactly that. Night Huntress is moving it’s way up to be read next, hopefully before Summer hits I’ll be well into this series! Love this feature idea and thanks for sharing Lexxie 😀

Oh yes! Night Huntress is SO awesome!
