Sidekick Saturday #7 – My Way or the Highway

Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week’s type
• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

This week, Jaclyn has chosen a side character who wants everyone to adhere to his or hers point of view – or else…

I think I am going to go with a certain blond vampire viking I love this week. Eric Northman isn’t always just a sidekick, but he isn’t the main character in any of the Sookieverse books either. And he certainly is used to people doing his bidding to a T! The only one ever trying to stand up to him is Sookie, and it doesn’t always work, as he will use his underhandedness and manipulation skills (honed for centuries, I might add) to get things to be the way he wants. And I also wanted to have someone really sexy today – admitting I now see Alex Skarsgaard in my mind’s eye when I think of the sheriff…

“You are speaking of my future lover. Be more respectful.” (From Club Dead)

“I don’t like having feelings,” Eric said coldly, and he left.
That was a tough exit line to top.” (From Club Dead)

“I hurt with you. I bled with you – not only because we’re bonded but because of the love I have for you” (From Dead in the Family)

“I snuck a look to see how Eric was taking this, and he was staring at me the same way the Monroe vampires had. Thoughtful. Hungry.
“That’s interesting,” he said. “I had a psychic once. It was incredible.”
“Did the psychic think so?” (From Dead Until Dark)

“Glass shattered, vampires roared, humans screamed. The noise battered at me, just as the tidal wave of scores of brains at high gear washed over me. When it began to taper off, I looked up into Eric’s eyes. Incredibly, he was excited. He smiled at me. “I knew I’d get on top of you somehow,” he said.
Are you trying to make me mad so I’ll forget how scared I am?”
No, I’m just opportunistic.”
I wiggled, trying to get out from under him, and he said, “Oh, do that again. It felt great.” (From Living Dead in Dallas)

“My eyes flew open, and I pushed back against rock-hard shoulders. I let out a little squeak of horror.
“It’s me,” said a familiar voice.
…”Eric, what are you doing here?”
“Snuggling.” (From Club Dead)

I guess I should stop here, but I could go on and on and on 🙂 I especially like how Eric always seems so caring towards Sookie, but he’s still also thinking of what is good for himself.

Who did you choose this week? Please share!

Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Have a spectacular Saturday.

    • Thanks Jaclyn 🙂 I love Eric! And you’re right, when Sookie does something nice for Eric without even meaning to, it’s really funny 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by!

  1. ERIC! “You are speaking of my future lover. Be more respectful.” That is my favorite quote. I put Sookie on my break up list, but your review of Dead Ever After and everyone’s comments about continuing on have my mind made up. I have to go back to it. You’re right about Eric for this week’s challenge. If he couldn’t take a straight path to what he wanted, he manipulated anyone around him until he achieved success. He’s the only not so good guy that I totally crush on (I think). Can’t wait to see what my mom and sister come up with. Have a great weekend, Lexxie!

    • Thanks for stopping by Robyn! Yes, *sighs* Eric is also one of the few ‘bad’-guys I truly love. The way he uses his experience as a means to an end is kind of sexy, even if I don’t think I’d actually be able to put up with it.

If you continue reading Sookie, you should just try to enjoy it. I loved the first books so much I knew I was going to read it to the very end. And they are quite quick reads, so if you end up not loving them, you’ll still not spend too much time on them.

I look forward to seeing what your mom and your sister come up with as well!

Have a great weekend, too, Robyn 🙂
