Sidekick Showcase - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, and so will Jaclyn, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on Jaclyn’s page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week’s topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their’s throughout the week as well

Sidekick Showcase #27 – One of a Kind

As soon as I saw that today’s theme is ‘One of a kind’ I’ve had only one character on my mind. There is only one character who is so unique that he deserves to be called One of a Kind – and that character is *sighs* Barrons! JZB is from Karen Marie Moning’s Faefever series, and even if I didn’t love him in the first book, he quickly won me over. And he truly is one of a kind, too, we don’t know exactly what he is, but he sure is some kind of supernatural creature dressed up as a sex-on-a-stick man / business man. He is extremely loyal, he’d do anything to help out one of his few friends, and he’d also stop at nothing to get to one of his enemies. He can be totally ruthless as well as mild, caring and loving. He is made of contradictions, he truly is one of a kind.

Want some quotes to go with all that gushing?

From Shadowfever:

“He pulls me around and kisses me. “You’re Mac,” he says. “And I’m Jericho. And nothing else matters. Never will. You exist in a place that is beyond all rules for me. Do you understand that?”
I do.
Jericho Barrons just told me he loves me.”

“Some people bring out the worst in you, others bring out the best, and then there are those remarkably rare, addictive ones who just bring out the most. Of everything.
They make you feel so alive that you’d follow them straight into hell, just to keep getting your fix.”

“The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were trouble.”
“Ditto.”
“I wanted to drag you between the shelves, fuck you senseless, and send you home.”
“If you’d done that, I never would have left.”
“You’re still here anyway.”
“You don’t have to sound so sour about it.”
“You’re upsetting my entire existence.”
“Fine, I’ll leave.”
“Try and I’ll chain you up.”

“V’lane: Are you busy tomorrow MacKayla ?
Barrons: She’s working on old texts with me.
V’lane: Ah. Old texts. A banner day at the bookstore.
Barrons: We’re translating Kama Sutra…with interactive aids.”

From Bloodfever:

“I was about to look away when he reached across the seat, touched my jaw with his long, strong, beautiful fingers, and caressed my face.
Being touched by Jericho Barrons with kindness makes you feel like you must be the most special person in the world. It’s like walking up to the biggest, most savage lion in the jungle, lying down, placing your head it its mouth and, rather than taking your life, it licks you and purrs.”

From Darkfever:

“Sometimes, Ms. Lane,” he said, “one must break with one’s past to embrace one’s future. It is never an easy thing to do. It is one of the distinguishing characteristics between survivors and victims. Letting go of what was, to survive what is.”

From Faefever:

“Barrons was powerful, broodingly good-looking, insanely wealthy, frighteningly intelligent, and had exquisite taste, not to mention a hard body that emitted some kind of constant low-level charge. Bottom line: He was the stuff of heroes.
And psychotic killers.”

“I moistened my lips. His gaze fixed on them. I think I stopped breathing.
He jerked so sharply away that his long dark coat sliced air, and turned his back to me. “Was that an invitation, Ms.Lane?”
“If it was?” I asked, astonishing myself. What did I think I was doing?
“I don’t do hypotheticals. Little girl.”

From Dreamfever:

“I was no longer sexually vulnerable to the death-by-sex Fae Prince.
Jericho Barrons was my poison now.

Who did you choose today? Please link up so I can check it out 🙂

Thanks for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!

  1. Can you hear me laughing, Lexxie?!? Great minds, right?!? I, too, knew immediately who my choice was when I read this week’s theme. *sigh* Yes that man is definitely sex-on-a-stick! Yum!! I have to say that I loved him even in book 1. 🙂 Oh, and I love your quote from Bloodfever. 😉

    Okay, I think I may spend a little time in a Barrons-induced haze…

I hope you’re having a lovely weekend, my friend! What do you have going on? We’re celebrating my younger daughter’s 13th birthday…yep, a true teenager now. 😉 (well, on Monday) Whatever you do, enjoy! *hugs*

  2. I wish I could just stay in a Barrons-induced haze today… alas, I have a huge semantics/logic homework to hand in on Monday, so I need to finish that up. And of course, there are books to be read 😉

Happy birthday to your teenager! I hope you’ll all have fun with that. True teenagers can be pretty cool, and I’m sure yours is.

Have a great weekend, Brandee. *hugs*

  3. I love Barons!! But the series in it’s self has been iffy to me. I loved the first two, then the third one I just hated..so it took a long time for me to even try the fourth one..but I did and it was okay…but I am afraid to read the last one…lol. I have it on my kindle but I just can’t bring myself to read it..I don’t know why..but I do love Barrons!! 🙂 Fav. part of the whole book series. 🙂

    • I agree, Stormi, Barrons is my favorite of the whole series as well. He’s such a great character. I think I enjoyed the last book very much, but then, I think I really enjoyed all of them. I can completely understand that you don’t really feel like reading the last book if you have been disappointed in prior books in the series.

      Thanks for stopping by, Stormi.

    • Yep, I think that’s a pretty good description of Barrons, Jeann 😀 You should join us for the sidekick showcase one day! It’s a lot of fun 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by.
