Stacking The Shelves #28 – Count-up?
Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!
Participating in Stacking The Shelves has helped me to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week, and I think I have gotten a little better at not adding too many books every single week. Participating in this blog-hop has also introduced me to more new blogs, and some weeks, I add more books to my ‘might-read-one-day’ shelf than I should, but before I actually have the books on my kindle, nothing has been decided yet. When I first wrote this post a couple of days ago, I was so proud of myself, because I only had two new books this week. Well, that’s all changed now – I can’t resist. And I also have to admit to actually squeeing when I got an e-mail from Dutton asking me if I’d be willing to review The Immortal Crown… I have been denied both at Netgalley and Edelweiss for it – so it truly made my day yesterday!
ARCs:
Love, Lex (The Undergrad Years #1) – Avery Aster: I received an ARC from Xpresso Blogtours, but there is no blogtour for Love, Lex. I was just drawn in by the heroine’s name, to tell you the truth. And also very curious about this story.
This summer, I’d planned to celebrate my eighteenth birthday in Europe with my fellow Manhattanites—Taddy Brill, Blake Morgan, and Vive Farnworth—until I caught my boyfriend screwing my mother. According to the police report, this vomit-inducing incident happened around the same time I’d supposedly blown-up my mother’s penthouse. Like I’m walking around Soho with a stick of dynamite in my Louis Vuitton purse—not! Now, my besties and I are in jail.
Officer Ford Gotti, the Harley-wheelin’ biker cop who arrested us, keeps sticking his perfectly-sculpted nose into my case. His inked body is jacked like a superhero, and he says I can trust him. He wants me to fess up. I won’t. Not again. Why should I? My friends and I had a previous stint in juvie that nearly destroyed us. I gotta protect them and keep my mouth shut. Right? —Lex Easton, women’s studies major, motorcycle enthusiast, and virgin.
Tease – Amanda Maciel: from Hodder Children’s Books via Netgalley
Emma Putnam is dead, and it’s all Sara Wharton’s fault. At least, that’s what everyone seems to think. Sara, along with her best friend and three other classmates, has been criminally charged for the bullying and harassment that led to Emma’s shocking suicide. Now Sara is the one who’s ostracized, already guilty according to her peers, the community, and the media. In the summer before her senior year, in between meetings with lawyers and a court-recommended therapist, Sara is forced to reflect on the events that brought her to this moment—and ultimately consider her own role in an undeniable tragedy. And she’ll have to find a way to move forward, even when it feels like her own life is over.
With its powerful narrative, unconventional point of view, and strong anti-bullying theme, this coming-of-age story offers smart, insightful, and nuanced views on high school society, toxic friendships, and family relationships.
The Cowboy Rescues a Bride (The Cowboys of Chance Creek #7) – Cora Seton
Ned Matheson is sharing a house with the woman he loves, but he can’t kiss her, or even touch her. In fact, she can barely look him in the face. He knows he needs to be patient; Fila Sahar has been to hell and back as a captive of the Taliban for over a decade. Now she’s safely back on American soil, but her fears hem her in so tightly, she might as well be a prisoner again. If he wants to marry her—or even date her—he’ll have to help her regain her courage. He thinks he’s found the perfect way for her to become a strong, independent woman—he’ll give her a restaurant of her very own to run.
Fila can’t believe she’s finally home, or that a handsome cowboy like Ned cares for her, but before she can give her heart to any man, she has to find the courage to stand on her own two feet. When Ned surprises her with his perfect solution—the restaurant he’s leased and renovated in her name—she’s overwhelmed—with fear, not gratitude. She can barely leave the house, let alone run a business. So when Ned’s father sends them out of town to check on the family’s remote hunting cabin, she’s grateful for the delay.
Ned knows his father hopes this trip will split them up, but he’s determined it will bring them together instead. When disaster strikes, all bets are off. Ned will learn what it’s like to be helpless. Fila will have to recover the courage she lost years ago.
Can they survive the weekend? Or will this trip be their last?
All Night Long (Black Halo #1) – Madelynne Ellis
One night of rampant passion with a rock star, that’s all it’s supposed to be. Ginny Walters isn’t looking for love, only some sexy fun with an amazingly hot guy, that is, until she hooks up with Black Halo’s lead guitarist, Ash Gore, on the night the band implodes. When vocalist Xane walks off stage bringing the gig to a premature end, Ash and the guys find themselves unable to reach their hotel due to the presence of an irate mob. Luckily, Ginny offers them the use of her room for the night.
Ginny does her best to be a good hostess. However, it’s not long before she discovers a side to womanizing, bad boy, Ash that she never imagined. Beneath his hard rock image, is a man so hung up on the possibility of being hurt by love that he’s unwilling to risk becoming emotionally involved. How can she convince him that the bond between them is worth exploring, given that she’s not sure dating a rock star is terribly bright idea?
Ash can’t seem to get Ginny out of his head. She’s totally unlike the groupies he normally beds; women who love to fan his ego, but ultimately leave him dismally unsatisfied. Ginny sees through all his bullshit and the media hype to the scarred man beneath. Given that instinctive understanding, does he really want to say goodbye forever coming daybreak?
Maybe it’s time they both gave love another chance
The Immortal Crown (Age of X #2) – Richelle Mead.
Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.
Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.
Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.

Also, super curious about Tease, I think I have that some place, but I haven’t really seen a lot of reviews about it. Hmmmm.
Happy reading 😀 AND YAY FOR THE IMMORTAL CROWN!!
I started reading The Immortal Crown on the plane, and so far, I’m enjoying it – lots more than Gameboard of the Gods:) We will see how it continues.
I read a pretty negative review of Tease, actually, and that made me so curious I requested it to see what I would think of it 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, April.

Mary
awesome selection of books this week Lexie. I’m trying not to request as many E-Galleys as as I used to. I’m having some difficulty writing things because of my condition. Hope you love everything you got this week.

I’m really curious about Tease. I just read a review on it yesterday and really want to check it out now. I’ve not read a story about bullying that’s from the bully’s pov. Great haul!
I heard pretty good things about Gameboard of the Gods, so I hope that the sequel is just as good if not better. I haven’t read many Richelle Mead books besides the first Vampire Academy book. I hoe you enjoy your books!
Ooh, I got Love, Lex, too! 🙂 All your reads look fantastic, Lexxie! I’m interested to see how The Immortal Crown works for you. I still haven’t picked up this series…
Enjoy your vacation!! Shop til you drop!! 😉 **BIG HUGS**
Love, Lex sounds like a very strange read indeed. I’m definitely curious to hear your thoughts on that one! I read Tease a little while ago and really enjoyed it. As long as you’re okay with unlikeable main characters it’s a pretty thoughtful read.
This week I visited UK’s most beautiful library! Find me Under The Mountain
LOVE Richelle Mead! I still need to read Gameboard of the Gods. Tease sounds interesting. Love the cover! Enjoy!
Enjoy all of your new books this week – have heard interesting things about Tease!

I wish I had liked Gameboard of the Gods because I really want to get stuck into a new Richelle Mead series *sigh*
Love, Lex sounds good, hope you enjoy!
Great haul! I hope you like The Immortal Crown 😉
I never finished Gameboard of the Gods, but now I’m thinking that I should have.
My Stacking the Shelves
I have been seeing Tease for probably a year now and still haven’t read it yet lol Hope you like all of these!
I got The Immortal Crown last week too! I had issues with the first book – despite my high hopes for my first Richelle Mead read but nonetheless I was intrigued and willing to continue with the series. I’m hoping this one puts those issues to rest! I’ve seen Tease around the blogosphere and it seems to be getting good buzz. The rest of these are new to me but I hope you love them all Lexxie! Happy reading xx
