STS #56 – BBB #6 Bookgasm Edition
Stacking The Shelves (STS), hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are bought, borrowed, won or ARCs you will be reading soon. BBB is a homage to to Barron’s Books and Baubles from Karen Marie Moning’s amazing Fever series, and is hosted by Braine over at Talk Supe. I had two books on pre-order, and managed to one-click Burn For Me. Then, I almost *squeed* to death when I got accepted for This Shattered world. And I’m quite happy with myself for only adding four new books this week.
Netgalley ARCs:
This Shattered World (Starbound #2) – Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
Jubilee Chase and Flynn Cormac should never have met.
Lee is captain of the forces sent to Avon to crush the terraformed planet’s rebellious colonists, but she has her own reasons for hating the insurgents.
Rebellion is in Flynn’s blood. Terraforming corporations make their fortune by recruiting colonists to make the inhospitable planets livable, with the promise of a better life for their children. But they never fulfilled their promise on Avon, and decades later, Flynn is leading the rebellion.
Desperate for any advantage in a bloody and unrelentingly war, Flynn does the only thing that makes sense when he and Lee cross paths: he returns to base with her as prisoner. But as his fellow rebels prepare to execute this tough-talking girl with nerves of steel, Flynn makes another choice that will change him forever. He and Lee escape the rebel base together, caught between two sides of a senseless war.
Kindle Purchases:
Talon (Talon #1) – Julie Kagawa
Long ago, dragons were hunted to near extinction by the Order of St. George, a legendary society of dragon slayers. Hiding in human form and growing their numbers in secret, the dragons of Talon have become strong and cunning, and they’re positioned to take over the world with humans none the wiser.
Ember and Dante Hill are the only sister and brother known to dragonkind. Trained to infiltrate society, Ember wants to live the teen experience and enjoy a summer of freedom before taking her destined place in Talon. But destiny is a matter of perspective, and a rogue dragon will soon challenge everything Ember has been taught. As Ember struggles to accept her future, she and her brother are hunted by the Order of St. George.
Soldier Garret Xavier Sebastian has a mission to seek and destroy all dragons, and Talon’s newest recruits in particular. But he cannot kill unless he is certain he has found his prey: and nothing is certain about Ember Hill. Faced with Ember’s bravery, confidence and all-too-human desires, Garret begins to question everything that the Order has ingrained in him: and what he might be willing to give up to find the truth about dragons.
Sudden Backtrack (The Hollows #13.1) – Kim Harrison
The origins of the elf and demon war have been shrouded – until now. Told from a demon’s point of view, join Al as he helps Newt spin the curse that caused the elven downfall… and perhaps holds the beginnings of their own reclamations.
Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy #1) – Ilona Andrews
Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile case. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.
Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run or surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.
Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Burn for Me is wonderful. It is everything you expect from Ilona Andrews. That team can do no wrong for me. I plan to get into Sudden Backtrack too. I have it on my Kindle, but I have a review book I must read first.
They are pretty awesome, I agree. The character development is fantastic, and I was completely immersed in Kate Daniels’ world, so I think I’ll enjoy Burn for Me as well. Sudden Backtrack was very short, but still satisfying 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Melanie.
I’m hoping to get my hands on a copy of This Shattered World soon! I hope you enjoy your new books!
I’ll cross my fingers for you, Chrissi. I can’t wait to dig into that one 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
I’m so excited to read This Shattered World because I loved TBS! Great haul!
-Jon from Bookish Antics!
Me, too, Jon. I absolutely loved TBS, and I can’t wait to start reading TSW. Thanks for stopping by.
OOoh nice! I picked up Kim’s novella as well! Still need to read the last book though! I fell so behind! I have to wait awhile for my copy of Talon because I decided to make yet another trip up to Chicago to see Julie! Luckily I did read it as an ARC, but it’s still a long wait to have my pretty copy!
Happy Reading!
My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Oh, you’re going to love The Witch With No Name, Jessica. And the short was very good, but so, so short… Lucky you that you will be able to meet Julie. I hope she’ll make an appearance at RT 😀

What a great selection too! I had preordered Al’s story – haven’t read it yet though. I didn’t pick up the others yet but I’m all over them! I haven’t read these broken stars yet, but I want to and knowing that the sequel is coming so soon has me pretty anxious to get to it faster!
Al’s story is really good, but it’s so short 🙁 I hope you’ll love These Broken Stars, Berls, This Shattered World is one of my most anticipated reads for 2014… It does have quite a lot to live up to 😉
Thanks for stopping by.
I need to read This Shattered Wold – I had a for a while now and it is a time to read it. I hope you enjoy your new books!
Come and check out OUaT’s STS !
It’s an amazing story, Leydy. Thanks for stopping by.
Wow, great haul. I keep getting tempted by Ilona Andrews’ other books, but I should read more of the Kate Daniels books first… *tries to be firm* Enjoy all these!
LOL, it’s difficult to be firm when it comes to acquiring more books… I have read all but the last Kate Daniels book, I had a binge-read session not long ago, and I absolutely loved Kate and the other characters.
Thanks for stopping by, Nikki.
THIS SHATERED WORLD. I wasn’t that excited for it in the beginning since I loved These Broken Stars too much, and since it wasn’t the same characters, but it’s been growing on me. 😉 Enjoy! 🙂
Even if we get other characters, it’ll all happen in the same universe as TBS, and I can’t wait to delve back in.
Thanks for stopping by Kirsty-Marie 🙂
This is a great haul of books! I absolutely love some of the covers, and that is a big part of what draws me to books that I don’t know a ton about. I absolutely love the cover and idea of Talon and cannot wait to pick it up myself. Happy reading!

I’ve heard great things about Talon, too. And I love the author so much. Thanks for stopping by, Kiran 🙂
I can’t wait to read This Shattered World. I loved the first book! Happy reading!
Isn’t is exciting to get accepted for ARCs? I signed up at NetGalley only yesterday, and I’m already addicted.
I still need to read These Broken Stars, Lexxie! I have it sitting on my shelf – all because of you. 😉 I’m thrilled with your purchases, too. I know you’re a fan of Kagawa. Don’t worry, I’m still going to read Immortal Rules. It’ll just be this month. And Harrison and Andrews…can’t go wrong there!
Hope you had a great weekend, my dear! I’m still vibrating with excitement. And you know, May will be here before we know it! *squee*
**BIG HUGS**
