Stacking The Shelves #7

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

When I started participating in Stacking The Shelves, it was because I figured I really need to keep better track of books I’m adding to my huge TBR pile every week. At the same time, I also think it’s a great way of connecting with other bloggers. So come on in, and see what books I picked up last week :

Netgalley ARCs

Irresistible Magic cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsIrresistible Magic (Crescent City Fae #2) by Deanna Chase. Since I loved the first book, Influential Magic, I was really excited when I saw that the second one is out now!

Blurb: Finding the perfect dress can be hell… especially when a stranger tries to gun you down in broad daylight.
Void agent and magical baker extraordinaire, Willow Rhoswen has been anticipating her first date with Talisen Kavanagh since she was sixteen. After eight years of waiting, there are only two things that can stand in her way—an assassination attempt and a new game-changing drug.
Talisen’s invented a new elixir that creates superhumans, ones that can rival vampire strength, and everyone wants it. Including the vampires. With Willow’s life on the line, he makes a deal with the devil, while she’s forced to accept the always-strings-attached protection from the most notorious vampire organization in New Orleans.
But when Talisen and his drug go missing, Willow will stop at nothing to find him, even if it means working with her vampire-ex, David. With souped-up humans, dangerous vampires, and more questions than answers, Willow has less than twenty-four hours to find him before everything changes forever.

Unleashing Mr. Darcy cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsUnleashing Mr. Darcy by Teri Wilson

Blurb: It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman teetering on the verge of thirty must be in want of a husband.
Not true for Manhattanite Elizabeth Scott. Instead of planning a walk down the aisle, she’s crossing the pond with the only companion she needs—her darling dog, Bliss. Caring for a pack of show dogs in England seems the perfect distraction from the scandal that ruined her teaching career, and her reputation, in New York. What she doesn’t count on is an unstoppable attraction to billionaire dog breeder Donovan Darcy. The London tycoon’s a little bit arrogant, a whole lot sexy…and the chemistry between them is disarming. When passion is finally unleashed, might Elizabeth hope to take home more than a blue ribbon?

A Gentleman til Midnight cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsA Gentleman til Midnight by Alison DeLaine – this one got me because of the scrumptious cover and the promise of some historical hotness.

Blurb: The complication they don’t want…
Lady Katherine Kinloch survived captivity once. Now the notorious captain of her own ship, she refuses to let anyone jeopardize her hard-won freedom. But on a voyage to England to fight for her family’s endangered estate, Katherine is thrown off course when she unknowingly rescues celebrated naval captain James Warre…a man who stands for everything she despises.
The passion they desperately need…
Haunted by regret for his role in her dark past, James is determined to be more than the cold, calculating officer Katherine expects. Her seduction is his obsession, but his pride hangs in the balance if he gives in to temptation. And hiding beneath the scorching attraction between them lies a secret that could force the two apart for good.

Close to You cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsClose to You (Downside Ghosts #5.5) by Stacia Kane – I can hardly believe my luck! A Chess and Terrible fix for me before Christmas!

Blurb: THE HOLIDAYS ARE HELL
Churchwitch Chess Putnam has seen, and banished, her share of ghosts, but not of the Christmas Past variety–the holiday has been illegal since the Church of Real Truth defeated the undead and took control of the world in 1997. Yet when she and her boyfriend, Terrible, make a trip to an abandoned auto junkyard, they find more than the rusted auto parts and spare tires they’d bargained for. They also run across a creepy Miss Havisham-type hell-bent on reuniting with her long-dead husband just in time for Christmas–even if it means taking Chess and Terrible down with her into the City of Eternity…
If Chess and Terrible don’t manage to keep these ghosts in the past, they won’t have a future…

Kindle Freebies

None this week. I’ve been pretty good at not adding too many new books to my TBR this week 🙂

The Fiery Heart cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines #4) by Richelle Mead has been on pre-order ever since that was possible! I love this series, and I am usually completely immersed in the story when I read a Mead book!

Blurb: In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .
But the struggle isn’t over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there’s still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

World After cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsWorld After (Penryn & The End of Days #2) by Susan Ee has also been on pre-order. I feel completely in love with Penryn in Angelfall!

Blurb: When a group of people capture Penryn’s sister Paige, thinking she’s a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.
Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels’ secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.
Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can’t rejoin the angels, can’t take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

What books did you get this week? Is there one in particular you are really excited about? Please leave me a link so I can come check out your Stacking the Shelves as well.

    • Yeah, I requested Mr. Darcy as soon as I saw it… there is just something about that name, and the summary sounds good, too.
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Stacia Kane is made of awesome! I love her Downside Ghosts series! There are several other books I look forward to reading as well 🙂

  1. Jessica @ a GREAT read

OOh nice! I got The Fiery Heart and World After too! Read World After as an ARC so I just needed it as a keeper copy! I liked it, but Angelfall was better in some ways. Still an awesome read! I soooo cannot wait for book 3!

My STS will be up tomorrow, stop by if you can!

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I know, right Jessica? I’m glad you enjoyed World After, I’ve seen some so-so reviews of it lately.

  2. Oh goodness, I’m having a severe case of book envy, Lexxie!! 🙂

I can’t wait to hear what you think about Unleashing Mr. Darcy. I have The Fiery Heart to read (hopefully soon). And I’m excited you’re reading Close to You and World After. The others I haven’t heard of but they sound great. So you, my friend, have yourself a great list for reading this week! And I’m just a little (ok, a lot) envious. 😉

Have a wonderful weekend, Lexxie! *hugs*

    • I’ve been cruising through books this week, and actually just finished Irresistible Magic today and The Fiery Heart yesterday! I think Unleashing Mr. Darcy will be one of my next books 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful weekend yourself, Brandee. *hugs*

    • It’s been a while since I read a historical romance as well, but I love those every now and then 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by Michelle

    • That’s not stupid, Kate, I’m the same way! When I’m really excited about a book, I’m also very afraid I’ll be disappointed because my expectations might be too high 🙂

      thanks for stopping by.

    • She’s one of my favorite authors, too, and I’ve loved all her books, except one 🙁 The Fiery Heart was awesome, though!

      Thanks for stopping by Kaitlin.

    • Yeah, I look forward to all of them, actually 🙂

My weekend has been just OK, not feeling too well 🙁

Thanks for stopping by Stormi 🙂

  3. Hi, Lexxie! How are you? Long time no hear. :3 It’s good to be back. Weeee. Let’s see what you’ve got here. Some of these books are pretty new to me but World After and Fiery Heart, weee.

Seriously, I really need to get my a– moving and start reading Bloodlines. I already bought the first three books but I’m not really sure why I kept on delaying in reading the series. Perhaps because I wasn’t a fan of Sydney. She’s so different from Rose H. I hope that when I finally have the time to get into this series, my opinion of her will change for the better. I’m still excited to know more of Adrian and Jailbait though and of course, I’d love to see some glimpses of Rose’s new life.

And hooray to World After! I’m gonna be reading the first book after I’m done with all the ARCS due this 2013.

Have fun reading all your beauties, Lexxie. Waaa. I miss you and I miss commenting on your posts. :3

  4. Charlotte, it’s great to know you’re back! I didn’t particularly like Sydney either, and it took a while before I warmed up to her in Bloodlines, but now! I love her 🙂

LOL you will see stuff about both Adrian and Jailbait, and Rose’s new life, too.

    Thanks for stopping by, Charlotte!

    • You still have time, Ellie 🙂 And I have lots of other books on my kindle just waiting to be read.
      Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Hey Lexxie, sorry for getting back to you almost a week late! Fantastic haul though 🙂 I really have to get The Fiery Heart soon, the release kind of crept up on me o.O But I finally got Angelfall, so I think World After will be in my haul soon! I’ve heard such amazing things about this series and I hope the sequel won’t disappoint and that you’ll enjoy all of them 🙂

    • Don’t worry about it Carmen 🙂 I’m happy you made it! I haven’t had the time to read World After yet, but I really look forward to it 🙂

      Enjoy your weekend.
