Stacking The Shelves #45 – Just a Little Bit

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  you will be reading soon.

Another week where I feel like I’ve been pretty good, this Stacking the Shelves only has six new books in it. When I started writing this post, there were only three books, but you know how it goes 😉 And also, last week, while on vacation, I did so much reading. Now, I have 18 books I need to write reviews for 🙂 But it’s all good – my kindle kind of feels a little lighter right now. I was lucky enough to receive Soul Twister this week, I won a copy of this e-book from Bookworm Brandee, and the author, Robyn Jones is a great blogger friend of mine. I’m a little nervous to read her books, though – I really, really want to love her stories as much as I love her 🙂

Netgalley ARCs:

The Loyal Lieutenant cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsThe Loyal Lieutenant – George Hincapie and Craig Hummer

Trading on the sterling reputation that enabled him to survive a widely publicized doping confession, American cyclist “Big George” Hincapie—a record seventeen-time Tour de France participant, Olympian, and key witness in the Lance Armstrong doping case—offers an insightful account of his esteemed career and a sports era defined by performance-enhancing drug use.
In this highly anticipated cycling memoir, Big George Hincapie provides the most comprehensive account of a dark period in professional cycling, in which doping scandals have decimated the careers of some of the top athletes in the field.
The Loyal Lieutenant reveals how Hincapie’s life has been intrinsically tied to the sport he loves, from his earliest days in Queens, where he was influenced by his Colombian father’s love of cycling and the Colombian “cycling warrior” archetype. Hincapie takes us through his amateur years to the Olympics, and chronicles his exhilarating ride as a professional, including finding his true calling as Lance Armstrong’s most prized “domestique”—leading his then best friend to seven straight Tour de France victories.
Hincapie speaks openly about his relationship with Armstrong, how he himself began doping, and why he quit long before the headline-making revelations. His personal evolution is the journey of a man dedicated to coming clean about his past and to restore honor to the sport he loves.

As Long As You Love Me cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsAs Long As You Love Me (2B Trilogy #2) – Ann Aguirre

Most people dream about getting out of Sharon, Nebraska, but after three years away, Lauren Barrett is coming home. She has her reasons—missing her family, losing her college scholarship. But then there’s the reason Lauren can’t admit to anyone: Rob Conrad, her best friend’s older brother.
Football prowess and jaw-dropping good looks made Rob a star in high school. Out in the real world, his job and his relationships are going nowhere. He’s the guy who women love and leave, not the one who makes them think of forever—until Lauren comes back to town, bringing old feelings and new dreams with her.
Because the only thing more important than figuring out where you truly belong is finding the person you were meant to be with.

Innocent Prey cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Innocent Prey (Brown and DeLuca #3) – Maggie Shayne

To save innocent lives, they’ll have to risk their own.
Self-help superstar Rachel de Luca and Detective Mason Brown have finally given in to their overwhelming attraction to each other, but neither of them is ready to let physical passion turn into full-blown romance, so they carefully maintain an emotional distance. Then a judge’s daughter disappears, and Mason has a terrible sense that it’s connected to the most recent case they solved together: the abduction of Rachel’s assistant.
The discovery of a string of missing women—all young, all troubled—seems like a promising lead. But there’s no clear connection between the missing girls and the high-profile young woman Mason is trying to find. He realizes that once again he’ll have to rely on his own well-honed instincts and Rachel’s uncanny capacity to see through people’s lies in order to catch a predator and rescue his captives. But can they do it before Rachel becomes his next victim?

Rock Addiction cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsRock Addiction (Rock Kiss #1) – Nalini Singh

A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…
Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.
A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…
Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

Giveaway Wins:

Soul Twister cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsSoul Twister (Touched Girl #3) – Robyn Jones

“Peter and I are about to play a game. Don’t help him.”
“Game?” crazy Shopgirl asked.
“A hunting game,” Peter answered. His voice had a new quality to it. He caught me staring and instead of smiling, he held my eyes. “First one wins the bite. I’m going to win, Anna.”
Months into recovering from the bloody events that took place in Soul Bender, Anna Pierce is ready to get back out there and fulfill her self-crafted destiny. Sadly, no one in her life feels the same way. The emergence of buried memories and out-of-the-blue powers send her straight into regular sessions with the school counselor. If only she could talk about her overly protective vampire boyfriend or the real threat posed by former friends turned enemies or her new guide who makes her former guide look like a bowl of sunshine. Anna has a lot going on, but at least she’s too busy to think about her first Christmas at Ella’s.

Wormwood cover - (un)Conventional BookviewsWormwood (Wormwood #1) – D.H. Nevins Another win from Bookworm Brandee!! Thank you, Brandee 🙂

Against a devastated landscape, a legion of one hundred fierce half-angels is hell bent on purging the Earth of all humans. Can Kali trust the one creature who could be responsible for her ultimate demise?

    • I wasn’t aware of that either, until I saw her name on Netgalley, and of course I just had to request this book.
Thanks for stopping by, Grace. Have a fantastic weekend.

    • Yeah, but lots of those were prequels and / or short stories, Jirrine :)YAY for Wormwood and Brandee! I hope we’ll both enjoy it 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Yeah, Rock Addiction looks awesome! It’s a different genre from Singh’s usual, so I hope I’ll have fun with it.
      Thanks for stopping by, Marilyn.

  1. I’m wondering how she’ll do with NA, her paranormal stories are adult, and very hot and steamy 🙂
    Thanks for stopping by, Kathleen.

  2. I’m so excited to read As Long As You Love Me. I fell in love with all the characters in I Want It That Way and I can’t wait to get back into their world. I just need to wait until a little closer to release day before I read it. 🙂

    Have a great week!

  3. I really hope that you will love Robyn Jones’ books as much as you love her because it would be quite awkward to publish a less than stellar review. Err~ at least I would feel that way if I didn’t like a friend’s book.

I didn’t know that you were on a vacation. I am always late when it comes to what’s happening with my blogging friends. 😀 I do hope that you have had a good vacation. As always, your haul is pretty impressive. And Nalini Singh is there. I really need to get started on her Guild Hunter series.

Have a happy weekend, my friend! Hope you have fun reading all of your books!

    • Yeah, it would suck if I didn’t enjoy her stories, right?

We had a terrific time on vacation, only the hubby, the two youngest kids and I, and it was relaxing, warm and fun 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend yourself, Charlotte. Thanks for stopping by.

    • The first one, I Want it That Way was awesome, Samantha, so of course I really look forward to this one 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by.

  4. Ohh, I didn’t know Nalini Singh has a NA series out! I’m more familiar with her adult books, so this should be interesting! I have such a weakness for rock band/musician books, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for Rock Addiction. And September isn’t so far away… 😀 Hope you love all your new books Lexxie, have a great weekend!

I’m thrilled that you’ll be able to substitute teach this year. That will be a fantastic experience for you! I wish my kids had one more week before starting school. But *sniff* it all starts this week. Summer is NOT long enough!! Hope we can chat tomorrow! Happy Monday! *BIG HUGS*
