Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #46
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
Today, I finally have a Thirsty Thursday quote to share with you! It’s been a while since I found a drink-quote I wanted to use, so I was very happy when I read The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende and found one. I felt a little bad for Seth, because it’s really difficult to keep up when someone else is filling your glass…
My Thirsty Thursday quote:
Irina filled his small ceramic bowl with sake. Alma had told her that in Japan the correct thing to do was to serve the other person first and then wait for someone to serve you.
[…]
Whereas Irina drank green tea with her sushi, Seth drank more hot sake than he could cope with. The contents of the tiny cup disappeared in a sip, while Irina, distracted by their conversation, kept refilling it. Neither of them noticed when the waiter, dressed in a blue kimono with a bandana around his forehead, brought them a second bottle.
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.
Please not that there will be no Thirsty Thursday or Hungry Hearts post for the next two weeks, as I’m taking some time off for the holidays. I’ll share some photos from my trip to Norway for Christmas, and some from around Geneva for New Year’s 🙂

My favorite combo! I can eat sushi and drink sake everyday! Too bad my podunk town has terrible sushi.
Thanks for giving me the cravings :/
Oh Braine, we just have to meet! We can eat sushi, drink sake, and speak in songs 😉

Mmm.. I’m having sushi cravings now too, dang it.
I ended up having sushi for dinner! That’s how bad my sushi cravings were 😀
Oh, that takes me back to some sake drinking days…LOL. Thanks for sharing and helping me remember!
And oh, I can’t wait to see the pictures of Norway! My grandparents grew up in Sweden….sort of next door, right? LOL
Yes, it is practically next door, and my grandmother was Swedish, as was my great-grandmother (not the Swedish grandmother’s mom).
LOL, it’s not bad if you can actually remember those days, Laurel-Rain 🙂
That’s a nice one! Sounds like they were enjoying their time together!
They were definitely enjoying their time together, Naomi 🙂
I’m not a sushi fan, as you know 😉 , but I have enjoyed some sake before. 😀 I hope you enjoyed The Japanese Lover, Lex.

The Japanese lover was awesome, Brandee! Allende knows how to create intricate stories that span over decades!
