Top Ten Tuesday – books I recommend the most:

This week on Top Ten Tuesday, we share which books we recomend the most, here on our blogs, to people we know, on Goodreads or in different ways. op Ten Tuesdays is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, where we share our excitement for books, and I really like how this meme makes me think about the books I read, why I read them, and who to recommend my favorite reads to. So, here we go :

Top Ten Books I Recommend the Most

(in no particular order)

slammed (un)Conventional BookviewsWhen I first read Slammed by Colleen Hoover, I fell completely in love with both Layken and Will, I found the prose to be absolutely beautiful and was even inspired to write my own slam poetry. My review of Slammed reflects on what I liked – but it can really be summed up with the beautiful prose and really likeable and realistic characters. Because I loved this book so much, Colleen Hoover is now on my autobuy list – and so far, I have loved everything I’ve read by her.

angelfall (un)Conventional BookviewsFor those who want a post-apocalyptic read, with mean angels and a very strong, young female lead character, I talk about Angelfall by Susan Ee- I loved this book, and I can’t wait for the second book in the series to come out later this year. So many things happened, and a lot of it actually made a lot of sense. Penryn is not the kind of person to back down, she will fight for what she thinks is right – and she does to until the bitter end!

Unholy Ghosts (un)Conventional BookviewsA more adult book, set in a gritty world where there is magic, ghosts and witches – Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane is the first book in the Downside Ghosts series. Here, we get to know a broken heroine, a hero who doesn’t seem to have much heroic in him at first glance, and I fell in love with both of them in the first book. I have countdowns in my calendar for the next book about Terrible and Chess. They are real, flawed but try to do the right thing.

Anna Dressed in Blood (un)Conventional BookviewsFor a creepy ghost story with a male main character, I like to talk about Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake. Cas is a young ghost hunter, and he’s hunting for the biggest, baddest ghost of them all – the one who managed to kill his father. When Cas and his mom move to a new town, Cas is supposed to get rid of the ghost of a young girl, but he is so intrigued by Anna it takes him forever to decide what to do with her.

Shade (un)Conventional BookviewsShade is the first book in the series with the same name, written by Jeri Smith-Ready. This YA series is already completed, and all three books were excellent in my opinion. There are ghosts inthis one as well – it seems I have a thing for stories where there are ghosts, I hadn’t even realized that myself, and it’s a YA series. Jeri Smith-Ready is another author I really love reading, her adult series WVMP Radio is really good as well.

Outlander (un)Conventional BookviewsFor fellow readers who aren’t afraid of a very big book, I recommend the Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. There is time travel, a sexy Scottish highlander, a modern woman, and lots of adventure and action. So far in this series, there are seven books that have already been released, the 8th is due to be published later this year, and I keep checking Diana Gabaldon’s web-site to see if there is a set date yet. I have also read all the books in the spin-off series as well as the graphic novel – I can’t get enough of Jamie and Clare.

Born of Night (un)Conventional BookviewsSci-fi fans who like aliens, different technology, hot characters and spicy relationships, I recommend Born of Night by Gena Showalter. It’s the first book in The League series, and the tortured male characters with a heart of gold get to me in every book. This is definitely for an adult reader, or a mature young adult – there is some violence, some sex and more mature language than the other books I’ve recommended so far.

If I stay (un)Conventional BookviewsIf I Stay by Gayle Forman is a heartwrenching, but quick read. I needed a whole box of tissues for this, and sometimes, just thinking of Mia I almost tear up – even if it’s been over a year and a half since I read it. I loved the questions it raised, the theme, the way we deal with grief, and the way the story unfolded was original to say the least.

Circle of Friends (un)Conventional BookviewsFor a story about friendship and betrayal, forgiveness and new beginnings, I have to mention Circle of Friends by Maeve Binchy. The story is set in Dublin, where young students from different parts of Irelan meet when they start College. Friendships form, and the characters all grow. They all are well fleshed out, and even the ones I didn’t really like made sense – they were written so well that I felt like I could understand their motivation even while disagreeing with their actions.

Lord Midnight (un)Conventional BookviewsI can’t have a recommend list without a historical romance as well! Lord Midnight by Donna Cummings is excellent. It is filled with romance, humor, suspense and some really well-written characters. If you like a bad-boy who might not be all that bad, you’ll love the striking highwayman Gabriel, Marisa sure does! There are the usual beautiful dresses, but that is far from all, both the humor and the romance got to me, and I have read every book by Donna Cummings I can get my hands on since I first discovered her.

I could have gone on and on this week – it seems unfair to only talk about ten of the books I recommend – I guess I’m really lucky, though – most of the time when I pick a book I enjoy it a lot. I get immersed in the story, feel like the characters are my new friends, and am sad to get to the last page.

What are your Top Ten Tuesday recommendations for this week? I just may have to add more books to my TBR again 🙂

    • 🙂 Thanks for stopping by Lu! I need to check out your review for If I Stay, I love reading reviews from people who loved the same books I did.

    • I know how that is, Sabine, there are just so many great books out there waiting for us to discover them 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. I really enjoyed OUTLANDER, but it’s been so long since I read it that I think I’ll have to re-read it before I can continue on with the series. And it’s such a HUGE book that I don’t know if I’ll ever actually get around to it. We’ll see …

    • Oh, I can understand not particularly wanting to re-read it! I was lucky in that I got all the first seven books lined up and I read them all in more or less one go – then I went on to read the John Grey books, and now, I’m (im)patiently waiting for book number 8 🙂
