Up Close and (un)Conventional #5 – Vacation

Welcome to this week’s Up Close and (un)Conventional. I have decided that my Up close and (un)Conventional this time is not going to be about anything bookish at all, since I really want to share some pictures from our last vacation with you all. My husband, my two youngest kids and I went to Mallorca for a week, and it was so nice! We stayed in an all-inclusive hotel, and it was pretty cheap because we decided to go just a week or so before the actual vacation.

Mallorca is a beautiful island that belongs to Spain, and the water is beautifully transparent in this part of the Mediterranean, and we got some much needed sun and fun. At home in Geneva, we had 27 days of rain in July, so even if we tried to do fun stuff, it was less fun to stay outside for very long, because it was both really wet and quite cold.

One thing we did in Mallorca was that we did a scuba-diving baptism! Even our youngest daughter who is only 9 could do it, and it was awesome! The diving instructors first came to our hotel to do a free test in the pool, and we signed up for real sea diving as soon as we got back out of the pool. The pictures are from our virgin-dive, and we are already looking forward to the next time we can dive, because of the quiet, the fish, the beautiful colors and the extreme sense of peace we all had.

We also took advantage of the fresh seafood, and just feeling lazy, spending time together and of course, I got to read quite a lot. I think another highlight of my vacation was when my husband said to me: ‘just a second, I want to finish this chapter’ when we were going somewhere. He’s not a big reader, so it was awesome to hear him say that 🙂

That’s it for my Up Close and (un)Conventional for this time 🙂 Have you ever gone scuba-diving? Did you enjoy it as much as we did? If you haven’t yet, do you want to?

Thanks for stopping by. Have a spectacular Sunday!

  1. It sounds like you had a lot fun, it must be nice to be able to relax and enjoy the sun for a week! I’ve never been scuba-diving and the idea sounds a bit frightening, but it also looks really beautifull and peacefull under water.

    • Yes, it was excellent to be able to relax in the sun, and spend some real quality time together. I thought scuba-diving would scare me, too, but I totally loved it, Lola.
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • Yes, it is totally a different world, Jirrine, and it was especially awesome to be able to share something with the kids that was new for all of us!
      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  2. Ahhhh, I am soooooooo envious with your family’s vacation, Lexxie! I never got to experience diving despite the fact that my previous job was related to doing things related to monitoring the environment. T_T I only experienced snorkeling and although it was fun, it was still work and we only surveyed some boring mollusks that lived in the foundation of the jetty where my previous company was planning to build their mining port and power station. So you can say that it was a bit gross because the jetty was not exactly clean and there’s no beautiful creatures to look at.

I am so happy that you were able to go on a vacation with a lot of savings. Hahahaha. And congrats to your daughter for being so brave.

Mallorca really sounds like paradise. And thumbs up to your husband. Wohooo. You are doing a really good job in gradually converting him to be a book nerd.

Glad that you were able to take a break, Lexxie!

    • I’m older than you, Charlotte, so you still have time to go diving one day! It must have been both interesting and hard to have that job before, I don’t think I would want to go snorkeling in stinky, dirty water 🙁
I think our favorite was the scuba-diving for all of us, especially because it was new for my husband and me, too 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by.

    • I love the ocean, too, Lyn! I think it’s the one thing I miss the most living in the middle of Europe with no sea anywhere in sight. We do have a beautiful lake, but it’s not the same at all.
      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. That’s so awesome, Lexxie! What a wonderful experience for you all! I’m so glad you got to get away, even if it was only the 4 of you. Jax is going to be so jealous of the scuba diving. 😉 And I’m glad you and hubs got some reading time in! It sounds like it was just the vacation you all needed.

But I’m glad you’re back! 😉 *BIG HUGS*

    • Yes, it was truly wonderful, Brandee. I was most proud of the 9-year-old, she was very brave, and she had a blast down there! I thought she was very good at listening to the instructors before we started diving, too.
It was really nice to both visit Mallorca, and to visit a new world underneath the ocean as well. But I am glad to be back home – there is no place better.
Thanks for stopping by, my dear. *BIG HUGS*

    • LOL, yes, he did well! I am always happy when he reads, because then he understands a little bette why I love reading so much 🙂
      Thanks for stopping by, Silvia.

    • You’re right – it was exactly as we’d hoped. Relaxation, fun and sun on the menu for a week did us a world of good. The water was beautiful, and it was really special to be able to experience that fully with the oxygen tanks and a great instructor.
      Thanks for stopping by, Micheline.

  4. How fun! I signed up for a scuba diving class once – it was offered at my university – but I dropped out after a week. It was so much science – we had to learn the science behind scuba diving, not just the rules and I just wanted to swim with the fishes. Plus it was so cold! We stood around in the water with the oxygen tanks and I stood their shivering! I might have to go about it like y’all did sometime.
