You’d think that being Chief Seer for the supernatural world would come with a few perks. But as Cassie Palmer has learned, being Pythia doesn’t mean you don’t have to do things the hard way. That’s why she finds herself on a rescue mission skipping through time—even though she doesn't entirely understand her dimension-bending new power.
Rescuing her friend John Pritkin should have been an in and out kind of deal, but with the near-immortal mage’s soul lost in time, Cassie has to hunt for it through the ages—with Pritkin’s demon dad in tow. He’s the only one who can reverse Pritkin’s curse, but with the guardians of the time-line dead set on stopping anyone from mucking about, Cassie will have to figure out how to get her friend back without ruffling too many feathers—or causing a world-ending paradox or two...

Reap the Wind is extremely fast-paced, and so much is going on both in Cassie’s world and in other places and times…

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The overall storyline in Reap the Wind didn’t cover as much as I had expected, especially with everything that happened! Cassie traveled a lot through space and time, in order to save people, and herself, and to figure out more about her power. She also had more help in this story than in the prior ones, and that was certainly a relief. I felt almost frantic while listening, because there is a lot to cover, even if most of that has to do with Cassie herself.

I loved the interactions between Cassie and her very own acolytes, because while they might not know everything, the knew enough to show Cassie the right direction for her to go in. I also really appreciated the vamp Marco, because he was one of the few people who were supposed to be on her side who was really on her side. He trusted in her and her power, and he also felt sure she would do the right thing. Of course, she also brought quite a bit of excitement to his boring life, and he enjoyed that as much as I did.

At the beginning of the story, I tried to listen in my car, but that didn’t work for me – I got distracted and went too far on the highway, having to turn back and rather concentrating on driving than on the story I was enjoying. This led me to listening at home, either as I was doing stuff around the house, or as I was coloring in my adult coloring books.

Reap the Wind finally showed Cassie becoming more sure of herself, and also more than a little fed up with all those who only wanted to use her, those who didn’t truly respect her even if they did somewhat believe in her. I thought she was long overdue to be angry, and it was refreshing to see her rage against everything that didn’t go the way she expected it to.

The narration was great, and I need to find more books narrated by Jorjeana Marie, she made the different voices and accents for the various characters effortlessly, and I found that she brought a lot to Cassie’s world that I didn’t get when reading it for myself. Written mostly from Cassie’s point of view, I felt like I was in the middle of the breakneck action with her, through planes I hadn’t thought I’d ever visit. The only downside to Reap the Wind was that I wanted more of a resolution to what happened towards the end of Tempt the Stars.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

“This is getting surreal,” Marlowe murmured. “Even for this place.”
“Cassie is here-mentally,” Mircea told him.
“I gathered that.”
“She seems to find it difficult to understand why I do not wish to have her in my head, unannounced, any time she pleases–“
Marlowe gave a bark of a laugh. “Oh this should be fun.”

“I see you.”
You always did, I thought, watching sparks dance in his eyes.”

  1. I get so easily distracted by audiobooks sometimes too. I can only listen to them when I’m not doing anything, like when I’m going on my runs.
Anyways, I’ve never actually heard of this series, but I’m really liking the sound of it. I love it when you get to see characters grow throughout the series.
Sorry you didn’t get the resolution you expected though. I’ll have to look up this series!
    Lovely review, Lexxie!

    • It’s a great series, Nick, and while I wanted some more resolution, I still really enjoyed myself. It was great to see Cassie grow more confident, and also to see how other characters reacted to her taking charge more than in the past 🙂

  2. It’s been a while since I read an audiobook, but when I do, I do get distracted a lot. I tried listening to one while ironing but that didn’t work LOL. Great review.

  3. I’m sooooooooo late with this series… I think I stopped at book 5…. yeah not thatmuch to read but I think I have book 6 which is a good start. It’s great that it’s still strong

  4. I know exactly how you mean. I listened to this book to. It is a weird series for me. I feel like a lot happens while nothing happens at the same time. I don’t feel like the overall story arc is going anywhere. I do enjoy the stories though. I get caught up in them very much. Sorry you got so caught up in the story that you missed your turn. Hope you didn’t have to go too far to turn back. I enjoyed this narrator too. I have been frustrated by the fact that this is the third narrator in three books, but she did a great job.

    • True, the overall story arc is moving extremely slowly, which in a way is normal, I guess, because not much time has passed in Cassie’s present, I think. I really wish there will be some more of that main arc moving forward in the nest instalment, though.
I didn’t have too far to go back on the highway, but it made me realise that driving and listening is not for me 😀 Walking and listening is good, though 😉

  5. It’s funny you say you felt frantic while listening to Reap the Wind, Lexxie, because that’s the way I always feel when I read a book from this series. I love the story and characters, but I feel like I’m on a constant adrenaline rush for the entire length of time it takes me to finish. So it’s fascinating that the same translates into the audio version. I’m not caught up in this series – I think I’m on #5 – but I’ll try to do some catching up this year. 🙂 I’m kinda eager to see what’s going on with Cassie. Oh, and I had to laugh over you not paying attention to your driving while listening!! **BIG HUGS**

    • I think the pace of these stories are so fast, and that’s what makes me feel frantic when enjoying them, Brandee. And yes, the narration gave me the same feeling. It is definitely fascinating, and I hope you’ll be able to continue the series.
LOL, I think it’s funny now, too, but it wasn’t that funny when it happened 😉 *BIG HUGS*
