Emma

Who I am and all I believe is marred with just one glance into angry, steel blue eyes. He seems to control my air, my ability to breathe. He makes me crave everything I know is a sin. Pure becomes tainted and lines are blurred. It’s my fault; I’m the one who isn’t strong enough. I’ve been damaged…broken. Breck’s words haunt me…’There’s a consequence for every choice you make.’

Breck

I’ve had so many women I can’t even remember over half of their names, but none of them are mine; I make damn sure of that. I take what I desire and never look back. I don’t need or want anyone, ever…not until I met Emma. Those eyes bore into what’s left of my soul and her touch sears me, weakens me. I want to hate her for that. She is my ruin…my sweetest hell.

Disclaimer: Intended for readers 18+ due to strong language, mature scenes, and some violence.

My Ash to Steele Review:

Ash to Steele is a fun and sexy contemporary new adult romance, where Emma leaves her little town, her reverend father and a long-time boyfriend behind to move to New York City to try to make it as an artist. Passionate about her paintings, she works two jobs to make ends meet, and she her new friend, Jess, with whom she can enjoy the little free time she has. Jess and Emma are very different, even if they are both hard workers. Jess’ best friend, Breck is something else all together! At the beginning of Ash to Steele, I thought there was something paranormal going on, but that was not the case. Breck just happens to be a complete chick-magnet, and he’s of the love ’em and leave ’em philosophy.

There are several parallel storylines at the same time in Ash to Steele, and especially the fact that Breck is so against Emma from the start just because her father is a preacher and she is religious as well. This is another thing that made me think there might be something paranormal about him. Once we learn more about him and his childhood things become clearer, though, even if it takes quite a while before we get there. The secondary characters are both interesting and well fleshed out, too, and they help move the story forward in several instances.

I enjoyed the fact that Ash to Steele is written in dual points of views, most from Emma’s but quite a lot of chapters are from Breck’s as well. It is such a great way to get to know and understand the characters fully, and being inside of Breck’s head, especially is both mysterious and enlightening at the same time. As I said above, there are many things happening at the same time, and many of these have to do with Breck. He is very rich, and he attracts women like not many characters I have had the pleasure to meet before. With that attraction comes a lot of jealous women as well, and when Breck starts to spend more time with Emma, one woman in particular is doing all she can to make Emma’s life difficult.

If you are looking for a complicated NA story, with lots of sexiness, characters that are well developed, you don’t need to look anymore, Ash to Steele is the book you need. It is well written, with good characterizations and there is everything a contemporary romance should have, the opposites that attract, mystery, and a point in which it is difficult to see how things will ever become good again.

Some of my favorite quotes

Only pansy asses like Jason believe in love at first site, swearing that’s what happened between him and Jess. That’s bullshit. Love is bullshit.

I hate what he does to me, even when I’m loving every sexually charged torturing second with him, I hate it! Scooting further away, I also hate how I want to press my body against his, feeling the hard, lean muscles underneath his cotton T-shirt.

When her phone died, so did I. Without her, I’m nothing. When I first realized that truth, it made me feel weak and ashamed at how strongly I need her. Now, I have no shame left. I need Emma like I need to breathe. She is my air. It’s as simple as that.

  1. Ash to Steele sounds right up my alley, Lexxie! I, too, love dual POVs and I’m intrigued by Breck’s automatic dismissal of Emma because of her religion. I also want to read it to see what made it ‘feel’ paranormal. I read a book awhile back that made me think it was going to be paranormal but didn’t end up that way. Anyway, great review my dear! *hugs*
