Book Blogger Challenge Day 6 and 7

15 Day Challenge - (un)Conventnional BookviewsWelcome to day 6 and 7 of the Book Blogger Challenge. This cool challenge is hosted by April at Good Books and Good Wine because she was in a kind of slump, then got inspired again and of course, she wanted to share this awesome challenge with the rest of us bloggers. It’s a great way to get to know each other better, and I have to admit it has also allowed me to get to know myself and my blogging habits better. If you want to participate, please click on over to April’s post and link up.

Day 6 – How I Shop for Books

I am not very organized, and I mostly buy e-books from amazon. I have two bloggers with whom I have a lot of favorites in common, so if Brandee or Jaclyn love a book, I’ll immediately add it to my TBR list, and sometimes, I’ll even click straigth over to amazon and one-click it. I think I actually suffer from one-click-itis because I often end up buying far more books than I had planned to buy when I spend more than just a few minutes at amazon.

For most of the series I love, I have the next book in the series on pre-order, to make sure I’ll receive it to my kindle the moment it is released! There is nothing better than to wake up and realize I have new books that arrived, make a good coffee, and just plunge into a universe I know and love.

I also have a little problem with Net Galley, though, there are so many cool books there, and several of my favorite authors have review-books appearing there. And I have great difficulties not requesting a book written by someone whose books I have truly enjoyed in the past. And I am still truly amazed when I get accepted and receive the galley I asked for!

Day 7 – My Blogging Quirks

I don’t really know if I have any actual Blogging Quirks. I don’t have a plan, I don’t always know in advance how the next week will look like on my blog, and even though I participate in several memes, I don’t participate every week. Last week, I didn’t do the Top Ten Tuesday, nor the Feature and Follow. I had no idea what to answer in either of them, so I just didn’t do it.

When I write my reviews, I usually write my very own blurb, however. I don’t want to use the official blurb, so I make a summary of the story the way I got things while reading. Then, I write something about the story, the characters, the writing and the plot. Which I think is what many other bloggers do as well. If I don’t like a book, I take more time writing my review, because I know that something I don’t like can be something other readers really would enjoy. And even in a book I didn’t enjoy, there is usually at least a couple of things I liked.

What about you? Do you have any blogging quirks? I look forward to reading about them 😉

Thanks for stopping by! Have a great Sunday.

  1. I had to disable one-click purchasing on Amazon because I was spending way too much money. I’m notoriously bad at keeping up with series. There are so many of them that I liked and enjoyed but I haven’t read the latest books. The only exception to that is the authors who I’m diehard fans of. If I absolutely idolize an author, then you know I’m reading that shit on release day.

I skipped out on F&F this week too because I didn’t know how to answer it. Plus with the Book Blogger Challenge, I’m trying not to go overboard with memes.

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one not knowing what to do with the F&F this week, Lizzy. And it’s also true that the Book Blogger Challenge takes up non-review posts these days.

I have fallen in love with many series, and most of them are on pre-order now. I don’t always read them as soon as I receive them, though – and that’s because I have lots of ARCs.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Jaz

Ooooh you’re one of those ebook girls! I love 1-click too actually 😀 but I prefer buying books!

I think it’s amazing you write your own book blurb/summary! I just take whatever’s on GR because I’m too lazy haha.

    • I sadly don’t have room for books anymore. I own so many books it’s not even funny. Also e-books give me instant gratification 🙂

I like writing my own summary so that it’s a little something that is mine on top of my review. And sometimes, I find the GR summary to not be very accurate.

      Thanks for stopping by Jaz.

    • I’m glad I’m not the only one! Sometimes, I click right over because the book is cheap right then, other times, it’s so I won’t forget to buy it… And that’s how I have something like 500 books unread on my kindle :O

Thanks for stopping by Chelsea 🙂

  3. Sorry I’m late, Lexxie. We had storms yesterday afternoon that knocked out our broadband. It wasn’t restored until about an hour ago! 🙁

I laughed while reading how you shop. We truly are kindred spirits! I too have issues with one-clicking – I think we’ve discussed this, yes? 😉 And I too have a Netgalley addiction. Ugh. Also, you are typically the one sending me to amazon – for one book, of course, but it always ends up as a spree! :p

As for blogging quirks, I don’t think I have any. But I also don’t know if I’d recognize my own quirkiness. 😉 I blog in much the same way as you do though. *hugs*

    • OH, you had to actually live for a few hours without internet? I’m so happy you survived, Brandee 😀

I love that we have the same ‘bad’ habits when it comes to getting more books. I even kept adding books this weekend, when I didn’t really have time to be on the blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by Brandee 🙂 I love seeing you!

  4. I definitely suffer from “One-Click-Itis” as well *Hangs head in shame* That might explain why I currently have 200 unread books on my Kindle. In my defence, the majority of them were on sale – I rarely pay full price for eBooks, preferring to do so, particularly for ongoing series or authors I’m particularly fond of, in print. Still, I can’t seem to stop myself from impulsively clicking when I read a synopsis that sounds like it was made specifically for me or when I get a recommendation from a trusted friend. It’s a sickness, I tell you! 😉

    • Oh, the unread books I have on my kindle! I went on a kindle freebie-spree a couple of weeks ago and ended up with… 47 new books!

I do pay full price for e-books, though, because it’s still cheaper than getting books here. I don’t know why everything has to be so expensive in Switzerland! The last time I bought a hardback (of the newest book in a series that wasn’t on kindle at all) I paid $32 for a book!

Good for us it’s no a serious illness, Jen, we have very good chances of surviving, with more imagination than before we got sick 😉

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. We really do have a lot of favorites in common so I’m with you on that one 😀 and I am going to use your word ‘one-clickitis’ because I definitely have that! I don’t participate in memes every week either even if I do them a lot. Sometimes there just isn’t the time. I hope you have had a wonderful weekend! Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven.

    • Yes, go ahead and use one-clickitis, I think it shows exactly what is ‘wrong’ with me.

I did have a wonderful weekend, Jaclyn! Yesterday, hubby and I went to the Montreux Jazz Festival to see Prince and my he is still excellent! And he was all jazzy instead of funky – it was a lot of fun!
