STS #140 – Bought Borrowed & Bagged #90

Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are  bought, borrowed, won or ARCs  you will be reading soon. Bought Borrowed and Bagged is a homage to to Barron’s Books and Baubles from KMM’ Fever series, and is hosted by Braine over at Talk Supe. The Sunday Post #90 – Wrapping it Up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

On Monday, I drove 700 kilometers (435 miles) from home in Geneva to the other home in Spain. Being close to the sea revives me like nothing else, and with the beautiful weather as well as the scenery that’s very different, I’ve had a fantastic week! It’s been eight weeks since I quit smoking, and I’ve put on a little weight – which I really want to get rid of, so this week has also been one of long, brisk walks and working out.

I also got the result on my exam, and I passed. I’m not very happy with my grade, I must have said something I wasn’t supposed to. But at least I passed, and now the only thing I have left to finish for my Master’s degree is my Master’s thesis. I’m going to write about foreign language teaching and dyslexic children. And I really would like to be ready for the beginning of September, so please wish me luck!

This week’s Freddy in action:

  1. Glad you arrived to your summer home safely and was able to start your exercise goal. This is good that you passed your exam even if the score was disappointing. Wishing you well for your thesis.

You do have a nice stack of books to keep you busy.

  2. Hope you have a great time in your home in Spain. Sounds amazing!! Awesome on sticking with quitting smoking!! Good luck with your thesis. Freddy is as adorable as ever 🙂 Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

  3. I hope you have fun in Spain. I love the doggy pictures. I’m also finishing up my master’s degree (it’s in children’s lit), so I know that the process is an emotional rollercoaster. I’m graduating in November and need to get everything done by then.

  4. OOoh nice! Hope you have a good time in Spain!! And good luck with your Master’s degree! You’re almost there and that’s awesome!! You should feel really proud! I know how hard that is to get that degree! For now I’m just sticking with my BA! Lol! So again, good luck to you!!

Nice new reads!! Have to say that they are all new to me! Again! LOL! Hope you enjoy them all!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so be sure to stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  5. Destined for a King looks really good. I’ll look out for your thoughts on that one.
Congrats on passing the exam even if you aren’t happy on the grade. I wish you the best with your thesis.
    Have a great week ahead!

  6. Lexxie!!! Congrats on 8 weeks without smoking!! Omg I’m so happy for you right now! You deserve to buy yourself a book or something you like to celebrate! And congrats on passing! I remember this past semester I was very upset when I would pass but wouldn’t be the grade I wanted. Near the end of it, I was like, “Whatever. The important thing is I pass and that’s all I care.” Made me feel less stressed lol
    Good luck on your thesis!

    • I’m really happy, too! I promised my youngest daughter I would quit, and I’m quite amazed at how well I’m doing so far 🙂
I wanted to do really well on my exam because the prof is the same who’ll be supervising my thesis…

  7. Enjoy your time in Spain. Did you take Freddy with you to Spain? How is he enjoying the other house? It’s the first time he’s visiting there right?
Congrats on passing your exam, even though you don’t have as good a grade as you hoped for at least you passed. Good luck with your thesis!
I already have read two of the four posts you linked to on other blogs, I’ll have to check out the other two. I hope you’ll have a great week!

    • Yes, Freddy is here with us 🙂 And it’s actually his second time already, Lola, as he came with over Easter just after I had picked him up, too. He loves it here, especially because we have airconditioning in the apartment, and we don’t have that at home in Geneva.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great week yourself!

  8. It sounds like you had a fabulous week driving to Spain, it sounds so relaxing and absolutely beautiful. Well done on quitting smoking too Lexxie, that really must be commended. Best of luck for your semester too and I love your doggy posts as usual!

  9. Glad you got to Spain, enjoy the seaside! And congrats on your exam (and quitting smoking)- good for you. Hope you guys have a great summer. I’ll bet Freddy will have a blast by the water!

  10. Sorry you didn’t do as well as you wanted to on your exam, but hey, at least you passed. Good luck on your thesis 🙂

Congrats on 8 weeks without smoking! That’s awesome. And Freddy is adorable, as usual! Have a great week 🙂

  11. Sounds like a pretty good week. Glad you passed your exam. They didn’t give you any kind of feedback so you’d have an idea as to why you got the grade you did? Give Freddy kisses for me!

  12. Yay for being back in your summer home and congrats on passing the exam! A pass is a pass!
So nice to have time for long walks now and even better that you’ve a gorgeous location for them. Enjoy!
I love the sound of your thesis, it’s practical and interesting.

  13. Great work on passing your assignment and don’t worry about the result not being as high as you’d like. Passing is all you need to do and some of that stuff is SO subjective!

Have a wonderful time in Spain and it’d be great to see some pics! I’ve never been there.

  14. My word – that’s one heck of a drive! Hope you have a lovely vacation in Spain and congratulations on passing – sorry about the grade, but these things can be so random… Best of luck with your thesis – I’m guessing you have already completed your research. Huge respect for giving up the smoking – it killed my grandfather, so I’m right behind you and hope you manage to continue the good work. Have a great week:).

  15. Have a wonderful vacation! And good luck on your thesis. As a teacher who is licensed to teach English as a second language and special education, you picked a topic very near to my heart!! I wish you the best of luck!
Congrats on giving up smoking. My husband has been trying for years so I know what a struggle it can be!

  16. Congrats on passing the exam…almost done!

I love the idea of summering in Spain, although I’ve never even been there. But my eldest son and DIL go there quite often, and honeymooned there in 2013.

Enjoy the summer…Freddy is adorable as usual.

    Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  17. So many things to be proud about: passing your exam, quitting smoking, working on your thesis, driving to Spain, wow… have a wonderful week. I’m envious because I would love to visit Spain someday.

And Freddy…just adorable as usual! One of “granddogs” is a short-haired dachshund, black and tan named Sadie 🙂 She lives with her sister Penny the Pit Bull, and they are best of friends, but Sadie is the one in charge of the household, a fierce leader 🙂 Ha!

  18. Freddy pictures always make me happy! You got some great looking books this week. I’ve read another book by Ashley MacNamara and really enjoyed it but haven’t read anything by her in awhile. I definitely need to get some of her other books. Spending some time near the sea sounds heavenly. Have a great week!

  19. Dyslexia! YES! I wanted to become a reading specialist, but I couldn’t ever land a teaching job, and you have to be a classroom teacher for 3 years, so there went that dream. HUGE congrats!

  20. Spain is somewhere I’ve always wanted to go; the history, the ocean, the food!! Oops, not that last one… Don’t they eat healthier there anyways?!? I just imagine they have less processed food they we silly Americans do. Btw, don’t worry about the temporary weight. It goes away. It did for everyone I know who quit. And walking is phenomenal!!!!

Awesome books this week!! I’ll have to check out Loveswept 🙂

    Have a fantastic week!!!

    • The food here is so, so good, Kristin! I love seafood, and there is fresh fish and seafood everywhere. I guess some of the food here is healthier, but there are some delicious fried options as well 😉
I don’t worry too much about the weight, I just know that it’s harder for me to stay fit ever since I turned forty…

  21. Looks like you’ve got some great new books. I love those covers. ‘Destined for a King’ especially caught my eye. Can’t wait to read what you think of it.
Congrats on quitting smoking. Good for you 😉
And good luck with your thesis. It sounds like great subject.
Have a great week and Happy Reading!

  22. Congrats on your test, that’s better than failing plus it’s the application that’s more important. I’m sure you’ll be a kick ass instructor/teacher/educator.

  23. vvb

Things are looking good for your on your shelves and on vacation. Have a lovely time in Spain.

  24. I live close to the sea year round and actually grew up close to the sea too. I know what you mean, when Summer hits and I can be IN the sea, it makes a whole new woman out of me. I’d love to have a house in Spain though ♥ Freddy is STILL adorable as per usual and I hope you enjoy your new books 🙂 xx

  25. Congrats on quitting smoking – as well as passing your exam. I live close to one of the Great Lakes in the States and I couldn’t live anywhere else. I am definitely a water person.

  26. Hmm, it seems you may be spending a bit too much time at Netgalley, wife…do I need to host an intervention?? You did promise. 😉 I requested Stacia Kane’s book via Tantor. Can’t wait!! I do hope you enjoy your new reads even if the procurement of them broke your promise to me. (I’m working this!)

  27. I love seeing Freddie in action!
Congratulations on quitting smoking. That’s a tough habit to break and I hope you can steer clear forever. Your lungs will thank you.
