Review: NightDrake – Lara Adrian

Review: NightDrake – Lara Adrian

NightDrake is a short, but intense story, in which Nisha finds herself. My NightDrake review: For such a short story, NightDrake certainly didn’t lack in intensity, however it did lack in character development and world-building. This is to be expected, though, but I did find myself rolling my eyes when Drakor and Nisha professed their love for each other as soon as a couple of hours after meeting. Nisha was a mercenary, and her nick-name was The Heartless, however, as soon as she realized there was a living being inside the crate she was transporting, she went out of her way to help the monster inside, even if she was a self-professed hater of The Strange. From the little I […]

Review: Closure – John Lescroart and M.J. Rose

Review: Closure – John Lescroart and M.J. Rose

Closure is a very short story, like an introduction to a new author, if you will. My Closure mini-review Closure is not exactly the most unexpected story I have ever read, but for the twenty-five pages it lasted, I was definitely into Lucy and what she was up to. From the way she made her therapist nervous, to the way she worked to find the painter she had so admired when she was a child. Written in first person past tense, from the unnamed therapist’s point of view, I got a good sense of Lucy, as well as  Frank Millay, and the flow was nicely done.  For the parts of the story when the therapist wasn’t present, the third person […]

Review: Embracing the Wolf – Felicity Heaton

Review: Embracing the Wolf – Felicity Heaton

Embracing the Wolf is a stand-alone novella, and I quite enjoyed reading about Kat and Amon. My Embracing the Wolf review: Embracing the Wolf is a short story, and while I usually gripe about novellas being too short for my enjoyment, I am actually going to say the opposite this time… There were quite a few repetitions in this one, and it could have been shorter and still gotten the full story across. Confusing, no? Kat is working for a werewolf disposal agency, and none of her colleagues know that she is a werewolf herself – and she only discovered this herself a few years ago when she fell in love with Amon, the alpha-wolf of a pack in the […]

Review: Hard Knocks – Lori Foster

Review: Hard Knocks – Lori Foster

Hard Knocks features Gage and Harper, as well as several other characters that are part of Foster’s Ultimate universe. Short and very hot, it hit the right spot! My Hard Knocks review: Capturing the tension between Gage and Harper from the first line, Hard Knocks is a sweet introduction to the Ultimate series. If you’re wondering what series that is, you can check out my review of No Limits. The universe is that of MMA fighting, and the characters are very well done, some of them I already knew from the  Love Undercover series, which is also truly excellent! Hard Knocks is short, but still manages to bring out the main characteristics of Gage and Harper, both through the way […]

Audioreview: Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

Audioreview: Ugly Love – Colleen Hoover

Listening to Ugly Love made the story somehow feel closer to me, the characters were literally telling me their story. My Ugly Love audioreview: The narration was so good, I really felt like I was listening to Miles and Tate throughout Ugly Love, and that was both very good, and sometimes a little strange. When I read my kindle version of Ugly Love, I cried so much, and so ugly in many places. And I actually enjoyed the story more when I read it myself, even if I really did enjoy listening to the audio version as well. For one, listening to Miles go on and on about Rachel, from the very first time they met made him seem a […]

Review: You Have to Fucking Eat – Adam Mansbach

Review: You Have to Fucking Eat – Adam Mansbach

You Have to Fucking Eat includes sarcastic wit galore, and the story rings true! My kids all ate everything we put in front of them, more or less, but I’ve seen kids who hardly ate anything at all for ages… My You Have to Fucking Eat review: You Have to Fucking Eat is a hilarious parody of a children’s book – complete with awesome illustrations, and rhyming text. It is not at all aimed at children, though, but rather it is for tired parents who need a good laugh. When kids more or less refuse to eat – when nothing you put in front of them on a plate makes it to their mouth and tummy, You Have to Fucking […]

Review: Once Upon a Winter’s Eve – Tessa Dare

Review: Once Upon a Winter’s Eve – Tessa Dare

Spindle Cove is definitely the place to be, and Once Upon a Winter’s Eve cemented that feeling for me. My Once Upon a Winter’s Eve review: Violet is a very good female character to follow, but that is usually the case with this series! Once Upon a Winter’s Eve happens over the span of an evening and night, and then a few months later there is a very nice resolution. The women who go to Spindle Cove are quite unconventional, and they rather cultivate that during their stay. As such, Violet knows how to use a gun, and she’s very gifted when it comes to languages. Of course, my inner linguist totally loved that, and the fact that the man […]

DNF Review: Hex Hall – Rachel Hawkins

DNF Review: Hex Hall – Rachel Hawkins

I had quite high hopes for Hex Hall before I started it. Several reviewers whom I am almost always agreeing with loved it, and it’s a genre I love, too. Alas, Hex Hall and I weren’t meant to be. My Hex Hall review: I almost stopped reading Hex Hall at 37% of my kindle edition. I found the story to be very slow, I wasn’t all that interested in Sophie, and I also thought a lot of things didn’t make much sense – mostly because they were glossed over, and even Sophie had no idea about how to navigate her world. Being a witch raised by a human for sixteen years can’t have made anything easy for Sophie, but I […]

Review: Never Never – Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

Review: Never Never – Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher

A different kind of paranormal story, Never Never has both of the MCs being amnesic at the beginning, and as they slowly unravel their pasts, things get complicated. My Never Never review: Charlie and Silas share a common story, but they aren’t really aware of it in Never Never. From the start of the story, the confusion and the memory lapse are at the forefront, and I really enjoyed the fact that Charlie and Silas each had their own chapters – it helped getting to know them, even if they didn’t really know themselves. Mysterious and poignant, the story felt like a reboot, in a way. Where the characters sat down and thought carefully about their past and future choices; […]

Review: Garrett – Sawyer Bennett

Review: Garrett – Sawyer Bennett

Garrett is a very hot read, but there is a lot more going on than Garrett and Olivia. Between the hockey-games, the romance and Olivia’s secret, it was quite a ride! My Garrett review: In Alex (Cold Fury Hockey #1) Garrett was known as Alex’ best friend, the guy who was always flirting, changing girls every time he went out, and never becoming serious with anybody. When he first met Olivia, however, he was completely mesmerized by her, and even more so because she bluntly turned him down, after laughing at his dirty jokes. When Sutton told him to stay away from his cousin because she had enough stuff going on in her life, he only became more interested in […]
