It’s Monday! What are you Reading?
Welcome to It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? This is a meme hosted by Sheila @ Book Journey; and I think it is great to start the week with what I’m reading right this minute, and what I’ll be reading (or planning on reading, anyway) for the rest of the week.
Please visit Sheila’s blog to sign up on her linky, or you can do so below, and just know that every week, a lucky winner is drawn from the bloggers or posters (no need to even have a blog) who comment on at least ten posts in the It’s Monday meme. The winner gets a $5 Amazon gift card. How awesome is that?
Wow, I had a very busy reading week! I actually managed to read all the books on my list for this week, plus an extra one.
Ten Reasons to Stay by Sabrina Jeffries was the first book I read and finished, and my review will be posted later today. It got three stars from me, it was a quick and enjoyable historical romance novel, and it would have gotten one more star from me if the story had spanned over a little more time.
Supernatural Freak by Louisa Klein had an extremely interesting premise, but it didn’t quite do it for me. If you like paranormal books that are completely different from any others you’ve read, and you like reading when the narrator is 1st person present tense, you’ll probably love it! And I liked it enough to want to read the next book in the series, even if I only gave it two stars.
Runes by Edna Walters, is the story of Raine who lives the normal life of a teenager, even if her father is missing after a plane crash. Strange things start happening after Torin moves in next door, and Raine realizes that there is a lot more to the world than she previously thought. My review will be up next week – I gave this three stars.
The Reluctant Reaper by Gina X. Grant was a really fun read! There are 80s and 90s references galore, and the wordplay made me snort so often I have too many highligths to share in my review that will be posted tomorrow. If you want lots of good laughs and a sexy reaper, you should definitely pick this up as soon as it comes out!
The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau, coined as a YA UF/Fantasy/Dystopian has been compared to The Hunger Games, and in a way, I can understand why. Even if it’s not really like the Hunger Games, what the young characters go through is equally harsh and difficult, and I was on the edge of my seat through most of the book.
Inferno, by Sherrilyn Kenyon is set in the Dark Hunter universe, but is YA, and follows Nick through his late adolescence when he gets into his powers. I really liked this installment in the Chronicles of Nick series, there was a lot of character growth, and plenty of action! Also, some of my favorite characters from the Dark Hunter universe made more than one appearance, so there was plenty for me to like. My review will be up on Thursday.
As I said, I got a time for one more book than planned, and being back in the Kowalski family universe was a treat! All He Ever Needed by Shannon Stacey is a hot and romantic read, and I enjoyed ever single word of it! Great characters, humor and heavy on the romance – excellent for a rainy Sunday. This review will be posted on Wednesday.
So, now the big question is – what shall I read in the coming week?
I still have some ARCs I should read, and I think these should be pretty interesting :
Temptation by Kathryn Barrett is the story of a Hollywood actress who is filming her new movie close to an Amish community – dealing with a lot in her personal life, the calm and sure ways of the Amish, as well as their faith appeals to Laura more than she could have ever imagined. We’ll see how that plays out, I guess 🙂
Carniepunk is an anthology with stories by Rachel Caine, Jennifer Estep and others. The stories all have something to do with a traveling carnival, and I picked this ARC because I love everything Rachel Caine! I hope the stories are good, even if there are a lot of them, and this means they will have to be pretty short as well. I’ll let you know next week 😉
Then, because I’m still in the mood for some contemporary romance, I’ll move on to All He Ever Desired, which is book 5 in the Kowalski series by Shannon Stacey.
Because I know this week will probably be more busy than last, I will keep it at three books for the time being, and if I see that I have lots of time anyway, I’ll add Splintered by A.G. Howard to my list. I won this book from The Midnight Garden, and it arrived in my mailbox on Friday. I’m really excited I won it – and also that Wendy mailed it to me all the way from the US to Switzerland!
What about you? What are you reading this week? Did you enjoy last week’s reads? Thanks for stopping by – I hope you’ll have a wonderful week with only great reads!
You read an impressive amount of books, and such divers books as well, I am impressed!
Have a great reading week,
kind regards,
Hi Bettina, thanks for stopping by 🙂 Yes, I am actually kind of impressed myself – this is not my usual reading speed – but I had more time off than usual last week.
Happy Reading 🙂
Okay now I may have to read some Shannon Stacey!!
Oh, you won’t be sorry! I love her writing, and the romance is really well done!
Thanks for stopping by Annie.
OOh nice books! Haven’t read any but am curious about Carniepunk! Happy Reading!
Here’s my Monday Wrapup
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I really look forward to Carniepunk, I hope I’ll like it – even if I usually feel like short-stories are – you know – too chort.
Thanks for stopping by Jessica 🙂 Happy reading!
Holy cow I don’t think I’ve ever read that much in a week lol. The Kowalski series is on my TBR stack, my friend who guest reviews on my blog recommended them.
Have a great week and happy reading 🙂
🙂 I usually don’t get to read as many books in a week as I did last week, I guess I was inspired by the grey and rainy weather! I love the Kowalski series, it’s the perfect feel-good romance.
Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Wish I could read as many books as you do in one week. I am a slow reader. 🙁 Right now I am reading Pretty Dark Nothing by Heather L. Reid. So far it’s not bad but only 27% in so I am curious to see how it goes.
Stormi, don’t feel bad! Usually I never read more than maybe three books in a week, last week was exceptional.
I’ll look for your review of Pretty Dark Nothing – they always help me decide if I want to add a book to my TBR or not 🙂
You have had a great reading week! Awesome!
I am curious how the linky sign up for What Are You Reading is showing up on your blog. I have never seen that before, I dont think 🙂
Sheila, the linky will show up on the blog because I’m on a self-hosted blog that can use javascript. I hope you don’t mind that I added it here as well!
I did have a great reading week last week, I love it when that happens 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for saying nice things about my little book. If you were so inclined, there’s cover art now, available on Goodreads, the Simon & Schuster site, or here:

Thanks, again!

🙂 Gina, my review will be up tomorrow, and I’ll be sure to add the cover! I can’t wait to see it 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.
I totally agree with you about Gina X. Grant’s Reluctant Reaper! I’ll chuckled my way through the whole thing. She really has a quirky unique sense of humour.
Joan, I had so much fun reading the Reluctant Reaper! The word-play is flawless.
Thanks for stopping by.
Here be gee-gnomes! 🙂
Wowzer, you read an impressive amount of books!! Carniepunk sounds exactly like something I would read, I will have to check it out!
I’m not sure when the release date for Carniepunk is, but I think it’s pretty soon 🙂
Thanks for stopping by, Erin!
Congrats on hitting your reading goal. Hope this week you are just as successful.
Thanks Nise 🙂 It’s going pretty well so far – we’ll see if I can keep on reading!
Have a wonderful week.
I am kind of curious about The Testing. It has been getting a lot of buzz lately. Of course every new dystopian book is being compared to The Hunger Games or Divergent now…
I really enjoyed The Testing! I can understand the comparisons in one way, and in another, it’s still very different from both of those books.
Thanks for stopping by, Christina!
