BookExpo haul - (un)Conventional Bookviews - Weekend Wrap-up

Midyear Freak-Out Book Tag:

I found this post at Cait’s PaperFury, and since I’ve been in a complete blogging slump lately, I decided that this looks like fun! And I need to bring some fun back so I feel like blogging more…

How Much I’ve Read:

I’m actually in advance on my Goodreads reading challenge for once, because I haven’t been in a reading slump. Only in a blogging slump. And I’ve read some absolutely fantastic books so far this year – 2018 is the year of wonders when it comes to books.

So yeah, I’m quite happy with my reading. Especially if we look at a breakdown on genres and ratings:

So, I have no idea how Cait did the breakdown for genres… I’m pretty sure it’s in the Goodreads stats somewhere, but I can’t find it. Let’s just say there’s a lot of romance, quite a bit of YA, some fantasy, UF, contemporary, and suspense.

Best Sequel of the Year so far:

Oh my gosh… I have read some amazing, and unexpected, sequels this year. The first that comes to mind is

The Chateau cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews- Weekend Wrap-up

The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz. It’s book nine in her Original Sinners series, and it’s really dark, delicious, erotic and slightly unsettling. I absolutely loved it. Of course, Kingsley is the main character, so I knew I was going for a dark ride. However, there was also a lot of new insight into Kingsley’s psyche, and I felt like I got to know him so much better!

Restore Me cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews - 2018 Releases I'm Excited About

Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi is the fourth book in her Shatter Me series, and I frankly thought this whole series was over after the trilogy was wrapped up. I think this story set up so much more that can be explored in this dystopian world, and the characters had to act very differently than they did in the first three books. There is definitely something more going on once they have overthrown the establishment.

Leah on the Offbeat also really got to me. I loved getting to know Leah better. And I also appreciated that the characters from Simon Vs. were very present and still going (mostly) strong in this sequel.

New Release You Haven’t Read yet but Want to:

I still need to catch up with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, as I’ma couple of books behind. But I still really want to read The Thief!

Like Never and Always just intrigues me. And so, of course, I want to read it! It won’t be out until July 17th, but I’m waiting 🙂

The Smallest Part cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews

I’ve had The Smallest Part on my shelf since February, but I still haven’t read it. I really, really need to remedy that!

Most Anticipated Releases for Autumn / Winter:

There are more upcoming books I’m excited about, but I’m too lazy to search for them…

Cait’s list is longer, but I feel like I’ve said all I want to say about my mid-year freak-out for now 🙂

  1. You have been so busy with other stuff that your slump on blogging makes some sense. Breaks are good. 🙂

Yay for being ahead on your reading and getting in some great books so far. I’m trying to read more of a variety with this latest COYER challenge, but alas, I tend to reach for what I like in reading.
I want to read JR Ward’s firefighter book, too.

Hopefully, you’ll eventually feel more into blogging, but glad reading isn’t slumping for you. 🙂

    • Yeah, but it actually makes me a bit sad to see my blog so empty most weeks. At the same time, I don’t want to force myself to blog – this is my hobby.
I usually fall back to what I know I’ll enjoy, too – and romance always is a great pick-me-up.

  2. I’m doing this tag next week. I hope your blogging slump ends soon! Leah on the Offbeat is on my TBR list, so I’m glad you liked it. Also, I’m impressed by how much you’ve read so far this year. I’m behind on my goal. I think I’ve only read 45 books.

  3. I’ve read about the same number of books as you this year. I have more science fiction and fantasy, less YA. I’m a little behind on reviews. I have 5 to write in the next day or so. But I have blog posts every day, these are just for later dates. I’m adjusting to less work hours, more reading and the COYER parameters for reading. You have some great things to read – enjoy! 4. I’m gonna do this tag friday maybe. I’m so glad you named Restore Me as one of the best sequels. I’m going to the bookstore this weekend (after months of not going!) so I might buy it if they have it. 😀

  5. I think I am six books ahead of schedule or maybe five. It goes back and forth. But I am only trying for 150 this time. So I think you are doing great. Mine are mainly contemporary and paranormal romance. I can’t wait for Dannika Dark’s new book and also Dianne Duvall’s both due out this summer. And of course Colleen Hoovers as well. Samantha Towles got a new one coming out as well.

  6. Blogging slumps stink! You’re not alone with those. I hope you find a new muse and feel inspired again. You do great work and I look forward to seeing you in my inbox (even if I don’t always comment).

    This is a cool tag.
