Amanda sometimes cursed the day when she had agreed to be the legal guardian of her sister's children, especially because she ended up being the mother to a 9-day-old boy, just when she was moving and starting a new job as a professor at a university. However, when she signed up with a dating service, things changed! She met a man who had several different profiles - each set in the past - who wanted to meet once a month, dressed up for the occasion. Their meetings went from casual dress-ups to extremely hot encounters. And they all took place on the trains at the transport museum in Mandy's new town. They were both surprised to meet 'for real' at one of Mandy's function cocktails, and Mandy was even more surprised when she realized she wanted more...

Big Boy is a fun and very hot story about Amanda, and the very little time she has to actually go out on a date. Not at all desperate to find a special someone in her life, she does realize that she needs more than just her job and being a mother to Josh, though, and when she signs up with a dating service, little does she know what her mysterious man has in store for her. She has as much fun getting her costume ready as she has actually meeting with the mystery man himself. Getting ready with clothes from another era, feeling sexy and herself, but not herself brings some spice and fun back into Mandy’s life. And she desperately needs some fun.

When their dates shift from casual fun, between two strangers with new names each month to something more romantic and definitely erotic, Mandy is all for it. She knows she has no time for a man in her real life, but she needs to feel wanted, sexy and alive; at least one Thursday evening per month. Big Boy is the name of the train where their relationship is taken to the next level, and the sex is so hot the steam-train could totally be blushing! And things get a little complicated when they meet as their real selves, and Mandy wants to know more about Tyler than what they have shared so far.

The role-play in Big Boy is well done, and it is actually easy to understand why Mandy would go for something like that. It starts out fairly uncomplicated, and they do share something of themselves along the way, even if they always stay in character. Of course, the complications of Mandy getting to meet Tyler for real, without a costume, and a history-geek like herself is really well done, too!

A delightful story that spans over almost a year, with sexy encounters, hot romance and some hard decisions to make Big Boy is a fun read as well. The situations the to protagonists find themselves in, locked in at the museum, playing on unmoving trains makes things very exciting as well – what if they are discovered?

Big Boy is part of the Strangers on a Train series by three different authors, and I loved this, just like I loved Back on Track by Donna Cummings. If you don’t have a lot of time, but really need something hot to read, you should definitely pick this one up!

If he could pretend to be Chet Baker, or whoever, I could pretend to be the version of myself who didn’t have a four-month-old. I could be the superseded me, a competent grad student who never burst into tears at the drop of a hat.

I needed him to be a stranger on a train, to snap into existence when I got out of my car and snap back out of it when I walked away.

  1. I really like the premise of this and the fact that it sounds as if the romance bits aren’t rushed and it spans a year. I remember the exhausting early days of motherhood and am glad their first encounter didn’t turn into insta-love!

    • Yup, it’s not rushed, even if they only meet once per month… and the anticipation is well done, too!

    • WooHoo! And lucky you for meeting Ruthie Knox, Brandee ๐Ÿ™‚ I love these short and hot romances, and I’m amazed each book is written by a different author, because they all have the same feel to them – even if the writing is different.

      Thanks for stopping by ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Then I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy this as well, and it doesn’t feel like it’s too short even if it is a novella ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Jessica.
