When old friends become new lovers...anything can happen.

Sexy, gifted, and loyal, PI Jacob Decker is a tall, cool drink of perfection who had Emmanuelle Holmes at "hello." His relationship with Emme's best friend kept them apart for years, but things have changed. Now that a case has brought him to Gnaw Bone, Colorado, the road is wide open for Emme and Deck to explore something hotter and deeper than Emme dreamed possible. So why is she sabotaging the best thing that's ever happened to her?
It isn't easy to catch Deck off guard, but Emme does just that when she walks back into his life after nine long years. The curvy brunette had her charms back in the day, but now she's a bona fide knockout . . . and she wants to rekindle their friendship. Deck, however, wants more. Emme's always been the one; she excites Deck's body and mind like no other woman can. But a dark chapter from Emme's past overshadows their future together. Now only Deck can help her turn the page-if she'll let him . . .

Kaleidoscope had some beautiful metaphors, but Emme and Deck didn’t wow me as much as other Colorado Mountain couples have.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

The main thing that made Kaleidoscope less enjoyable to me was that in many ways, Emme was just too high strung and high maintenance for me. I did get why at the very end, but by that time, I didn’t care that much anymore. I totally loved Deck, though, and the connections he had both with the rest of the Colorado Mountain men, and with the Rock Chick guys.

One thing I love with Kristen Ashley is the strong sense of community, and that was present in Kaleidoscope as well. So was both the incredible mystery, the suspense, and the romance. Emme’s past was intriguing to say the least, but I felt like I got a little bit too little too late to be totally won over by her.

Written in dual points of views, from Emme’s and Deck’s perspective, in past tense and in third person narration, the story flowed easily, and Kaleidoscope was a great addition to the series! The Colorado Mountains are still among my top destinations to visit;)

But those words shifted through Deck like a razor blade through silk.

After he did that, he reached into his pocket, pulled out his phone and made the call. It rang twice in his ear before, “Nightingale.”

Her chin jerked back before she said in a tone that was an accusation. “I forgot how smart you are.”

  1. Yep! I had a let down feeling over Emme, too, and loved Deck. She was just too out there for me and I couldn’t figure her out half the time because I felt she was all over the place.
Still, it wasn’t a bad story and I definitely want more of the series. Love the sense of family and community, too.

  2. Great review, this is a book I would like to read! Håper du har hatt fine påskedager med masse god lesning. Vi har hatt nydelig påskevær og kost oss ordentlig. Nå håper jeg på å få litt shwung over bloggingen igjen 🙂 Klem fra Anette 🙂

  3. Sorry you didn’t love Emme. I feel like that happens a lot in romances, one or the other in the main couple are too annoying or hard to handle. The rest sounds good though!!

  4. I’m missing something. Where are all these CO mountain towns I obviously keep passing by? Not in the ones I visit. LOL We don’t need Emme anyway if we find that town. Deck will do nicely. If you visit and find it, let me know where it is, will ya? LOL

  5. Agree with you about the heroine. I couldn’t connect with her. The only thing that I loved is the sense of community. I enjoyed seeing the interactions among all the heroes, the rock chicks and the people in the community. Oh I miss this series. ?

    Anyway, awesome review, Lexxie.

  6. Ooh friends to lover and suspense! Sounds like a great read. I can’t believe I haven’t read any Kristen Ashley yet! Lovely review. Thanks for sharing the quote!

  7. As someone who’s occasionally guilty of being a high-strung person myself, I prefer not to read from the POV of similarly tightly-wound characters. I do love the house on the cover of this though, it’s gorgeous!

    • Ha! That’s funny, Danya 🙂 I don’t think I’d enjoy reading about characters that have the same flaws as me, either 🙂 That house is awesome! I wouldn’t mind having one like that myself. Think of the library it could hold!
