When secrets and old histories come to light, Frannie realizes that nobody is who she thought they were. Hell won’t give up and Heaven won’t give in. Some are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell's grasp.

And not everyone will get out of it alive.

While the writing was good in Original Sin, the story didn’t always make a lot of sense, and especially Luc should have been able to understand many things long before he did – which was when it was actually too late.

My Original Sin review:

The storyline in  Original Sin spanned over several months, and at the same time, nothing much really happened. Frannie and Luc were making out, with Matt either invisible or not – watching them most of the time. Gabe left Matt in charge as Frannie’s guardian angel, thinking he would do the best job as he had a vested interest in keeping his own sister safe. Then, some demons from Luc’s past show up at Frannie’s work and then, this mysterious and very sad-looking, lost girl named Lili moves in next-door to Luc. That’s more or less the whole story – with lots of bumps on the way, of course, only those bumps didn’t really make it any more interesting in my opinion.

First of all, there were so many plot-holes in Original Sin I was both shaking my head and rolling my eyes several times. A girl named Lili moves in next door, and both Matt and Luc have to fight themselves to not fall into bed with her. Yet, nobody even tries to think about why that might be. Even after Luc found a book Lili and Taylor had left at the library where he worked. The book was open on the story of Adam and Lilith… emphasizing how Lilith was the world’s very first succubus.

And there was quite a lot of fighting back and forth, jealous teenagers, plus Frannie and Taylor had a huge falling out. Frannie was jealous because Taylor spent a lot of time with Lili. Then, she saw Lili kissing Taylor’s boyfriend…. she also knew that Matt and Lili had something going on, and when finally she found Luc and Lili in bed together, she still didn’t think at all that maybe that had something to do with Lili? Of course Luc couldn’t really resist her – not only did Lili make Luc think he was actually with Frannie, but she also managed to make both male and female characters lust after her – so I was again rolling my eyes because Frannie could only feel her own rage, even long afterwards she wasn’t able to see that Lili had some serious sex magic.

Another thing that irked me quite a bit was a revelation Frannie got about her father. She really could have used some advice earlier on, and she thought she couldn’t discuss anything about what was going on in her life with him. And because of what that meant both to her and her sisters, I really think she should have known about this since she was a little girl!

As I said, the writing was good, and there were different points of views being shared with the readers, Frannie, Luc and Matt all got their own chapters, but because none of them really appealed to me very much, I wasn’t invested in their story. If you enjoy angel stories (I seem to mostly have a big problem with YA angel novels) you should try the first Personal Demons story, and see if it might be your cup of tea. It just wasn’t mine.

Some Original Sin quotes:

Which brings me to another downside of being human: personal hygiene. Why the Almighty would design humans to require so much maintenance is beyond me. And all these millennia, I thought we demons were the ones who got off on torture.

A grin spreads across Matt’s face as he shrugs away from the wall. “She drives so fast not even the Hounds of Hell could catch her between there and here.”

Lili and I are meant to e together. I don’t feel scared or anxious at the relevation. It just feels right. And she knows it too. I see it clearly in here eyes.

  1. I read the first book in this series a long time ago and gave it 3 stars, didn’t enjoy it it enough to continue the series and afetr readign your review I am glad I didn’t. Whew sounds like the plto was all over the palce and the characetrs didn’t think about why they suddenly had to fight to not fall in bed with the new girl. I mean the first thing most peopel would ask in such a situaion is why and what is going on with her? Great review Lexxie!

    • Yeah, I gave the first book 3 stars, too, Lola. I guess I was still intrigued enough to continue, but now, I’m pretty much done.
LOL they really should have thought a little bit more with their brain! Some of the characters were over a thousand years old!

  2. I guess it wouldn’t be mine either. But then, seeing “angel” and “YA” together, I probably would have never read it. I’m not big on angels, the only ones I will read and be looking forward to are Nalini Singh’s Guild hunters. Oh and in another domain, Castiel 😀 Thanks for sharing this honest review – well said !
