Stella’s the lead singer and lead guitarist of The Blue Moon Gypsies and Stella used to be Mace’s girl. Mace broke up with her, though, and the loss of him rocked her world. But Stella gets a call, late at night (again) from one of the members of her crazy band. She has to go play clean up (again) and runs into Mace and a shed load of police, and ends up getting shot.

Mace finds he doesn’t like it much that his ex-girlfriend got shot right in front of him but it’s worse. A very bad man has thrown down the gauntlet and all the Rock Chicks are in the firing line. Stella doesn’t want Mace to be the one to keep her alive, but she has no choice. Mainly because Mace isn’t giving her one.

Rock Chick Reckoning touched my heart and my soul, and I got to follow several of the characters I’ve come to know and love!

My Rock Chick Reckoning review:

Rock Chick Reckoning had even more going on than the prior Rock Chick stories, if that’s even possible! A criminal was after each and every one of the rock chicks to get the hot bunch to back off their investigation. Thrown into that was the romance between Mace and Stella, who had dated before, and who still had feelings for each other. I loved that there was so much music involved here, and I would love to hear Stella sing myself.

Mace was a little bit more reasonable than his hot bunch friends when it came to claiming his woman, but just a little bit. And their sparring made Rock Chick Reckoning a lot of fun, even during the very tense and dangerous moments that happened every so often. The story also followed other characters, which was really nice, because not only seeing them on the sidelines to the main couple’s story made them more present, and seeing the intimate interactions between Luke and Ava, Lee and Indy, Jules and Vance just made my heart sing with joy.

The pace was almost break-neck speed at some times, because the danger was to all of the characters, and while they did good at working together, and for once listening to their men in order to stay alive made the rock chicks even better! Strong-minded women having to band together to be safe is one of the themes of the series, but it really came to a peak in Rock Chick Reckoning. I also loved how strong Mace and Stella reacted in the face of how the other’s mom or dad treated them – because none of that was OK. Understanding where all of Mace’s demons came from was good, too, and lord help him, he really needed to be able to talk through what he had been through in the past.

Written in third person point of view, past tense, and from various points of views, Rock Chick Reckoning is the best yet in the series! Most of the story was from Stella’s perspective, but there was just enough glimpses into everybody else’s lives as well.

Some of my favorite Rock Chick Reckoning quotes:

I wanted to find fault in him, I really did. I wanted him to be growing a paunch. I wanted him to be developing a bald spot. I wanted him to look like he was wasting away, pining for me. Something, anything but what he was. Tall at six foot four, flat, tight abs, square jaw and, last but not least, arresting green eyes and great skin that showed the Hawaiian ancestry that he got from his Mom’s side.

I watched as Mace’s long fingers slid through the fur on top of Juno’s head and the gut kick feeling came back. Jealous of my own damn dog. How far had I sunk?

My eyes wandered around the big round table in Daisy’s huge, fantastic kitchen, and for your information, I would love the chance to cook in that kitchen.

  1. I loved the first book of the series and I have the second but I still need to read it. It’s fun to see it’s still that good! I’ll have to get it out of my TBR pile.

  2. This was one of my favs in the series, Lexxie, even if Mace wasn’t my fav of the Hot Bunch. I remember being so shocked with how the one began…talk about a bang! And I really liked the relationship between Stella and Mace. KA’s use of music in this one was so powerful as well. So many things to love! *ha* I’m glad you enjoyed it so well. 😀
