Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

Throw in a Dolly Parton look-alike, a gruff but lovable strip club owner, Jet’s ne’er do well father, his ne’er do well friend, Bear, Bear’s long-suffering, chain-smoking wife Lavonne and the crew from Rock Chick and you’ve got Rock Chick Rescue.

Rock Chick Rescue takes you on a wild ride with Jet, Eddie and the gang as they wrestle bad guys in a bagel shop, hit Denver’s backstreet poker tables (with big hair), and help the strippers at Smithie’s take down a would-be murderer.

Through this, Jet’s got to learn that even when life made you give up your dreams, you can still end up with the (hot) guy. Eddie’s got to rescue Jet from a bad man (so he can do better things with her) and teach her that some dreams can come true.

While Rock Chick Rescue had a lot of fun and hotness going on, I had trouble connecting with Jet, and found Eddie to be slightly stalkerish in his way to approach her.

My Rock Chick Rescue review:

Jet is one of those women who ‘has no idea’ how beautiful she is, and while I can believe that this can happen, with Jet, this is taken to the extreme, she can’t fathom why Eddie would ever be interested in her. Eddie is a very hot cop, and part of Nightingale’s friends. While he seemed like a great guy for a while, I found him to be so pushy in cases I would probably have called the cops on him! When Jet said ‘no’ he said, oh, yes, and you’ll like it, too. This made me feel uncomfortable more than once!

There is a lot going on in Rock Chick, one being that Jet’s dad has huge money-problems, and this puts Jet in the spotlight for some bad-guys. Between her job as a cocktail waitress at a strip-club and her other job in Indy and Ally’s bookstore / coffee shop, she also doesn’t really have time for any kind of trouble. Eddie is always ready to interfere to keep Jet safe, and that is one aspect of him I really enjoyed. However, when he was supposed to drive her home, and instead drove her to his place, and wouldn’t let her leave, I was very angry with him! Who does that? Even if he’s in love with her, and thinks she is in love with him as well, she needed to have some power over her own mind and body.

With that being said, Rock Chick also involves the other Rock Chicks, some crazy action, dressing up almost as sweet as Tod in his drag get-up, and it also showed me that Jet actually knows how to fight. The strong friendship between Jet and the other women made me very happy, even if I wished she would have been able to realize much sooner that she was actually a catch! And not only because of her looks, but because of her being funny, hard-working, loyal, friendly and resilient. Taking care of her mother and her medical bills after Nancy’s stroke made me like Jet a lot, because family is important, and it certainly was in this story.

So far, I think I enjoy Ashley’s Chaos series more than the Rock Chick series, but I’m still having fun with Rock Chick. Written from Jet’s perspective in past tense, the story was fast paced and included very nosy mothers, and friends who did what they could to push Eddie and Jet together.

Some of my favorite Rock Chick Rescue quotes:

Mom had bigger dreams for me than I did. Not that I didn’t have dreams. I used to dream all the time, always had my head in the clouds. When Dad left, though, Mom fell apart or a while (okay, so it was a long while). I had to keep it together, for Mom, for Lottie, and I didn’t have time for dreams when I was taking care of all of us.

“I don’t wanna hear it,” Eddie said, apparently to Lee because Lee answered.
“Come on, tough it up. I had ten years. You’ve had what? Two months?”
Eddie didn’t respond.
Indy fell back a bit and into step beside me.
“What are they talking about?” I whispered to her.
“You don’t want to know,” she answered.

I put his shirt on and it smelled like him. It was then I thought the shirt wasn’t a good idea. Smelling Eddie on Eddie was disturbing enough. Smelling Eddie on me was too much of a good thing.

  1. I had to check how many stars I gave this one on Goodreads. I didn’t! I was so excited to read Eddie’s story after the first Rock Chick but then he was so damn physically bossy. That was hard for me. Then I guess the rest of the Hot Bunch desensitized me because when I read it again I enjoyed it much more. Still I loved it the first time.

  2. Eddie is my least favorite of the Hot Bunch – and it is because of his physically overbearing ways. But I think with this series I realized it was going to be OTT in so many ways so I just buckled up to enjoy the ride. 😀 Chaos though, is a whole different thing. 😉 **BIG HUGS**

  3. I’m often accused of being a feminist, as if that’s a bad thing. Here in the states, Planned Parenthood is such a controversial topic that I fume everytime a politician wants to rip certain choices from our hands. We are females, sure, but our gender doesn’t make us weak or stupid. Heck, compared to men’s balls, our vagina could sure take a pounding. Who’s the weakling now??
