In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...
Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.
Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....

Rookie Move was a sweet and hot contemporary hockey romance! I really enjoyed that Bowen understood the game and everything that can surround a hockey team.

Story:

Brooklyn Bruisers is a fairly new hockey club, and the club’s PR person, Georgia, has to deal with both her father and her ex coming to work for the club. Her father as the new coach, her ex as a new player. There is a lot of history here, and that made for a sweet second-chance-at-love story.

Characters:

Both the main characters, Georgia and Leo, and the secondary characters, Becca, Ari, O’Doul, and Castro, just to name a few were well fleshed out, and I got to know them fairly well.

Writing style :

Past tense, third person perspective mostly from Georgia’s point of view, but quite a bit from Leo as well. Lots of dialogues including snark and humor.

Feels :

A bit of swooning, but also laughs and tears.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Naked Leo would be more than her poor heart could take. She’d probably burst and artery if she spotted all six-foot-two, two hundred muscled pounds of him (thank you, stat sheet) across the locker room. Her imagination kept wanting her to veer off and picture Leo 2.0 without his clothes on.

There were six days left until the trade deadline. How did athletes live with that axe hanging over their heads all the time? Eery season was like a long game of Russian roulette.

Leo lost the climbing wall race. But he won the coin flip to decide where to eat.

  1. Sounds like an interesting read. I really enjoy reading second chance romance stories.
I think your new review template works. It’s really easy to read 😉

    • It was really good, Maureen. And on top of the romance, there was hockey, so that just made me even happier.
I’m glad the template works and makes my review easy to read! I needed some inspiration for my reviews, I guess. These days, I read so many books, but I don’t really feel like writing reviews for them 😀

  2. Sarina Bowen is one of those authors whose books I really want to give a try, but I still haven’t. I heard a lot of good things about her books and even own a few of her books already. I am glad to hear you enjoyed this one, it sounds nice how all the characters feel fleshed out. I can really enjoy a good second chance romance. I like your new review system!

    • Brandee has been telling me I had to read Bowen, and she was so, so right, Lola! Very good stories, touching on social issues, people with disabilities, love and more 🙂
You should start with her The Ivy Years series, though, then go on to this one 😉

      • I think I have the first Ivy book 🙂 as the author put that free for a while (or maybe it still is). I also bought Him and Us when those books were discounted. Good to know I have to start with the Ivy series before this one. Her books sound really good, I’ll have to give them a try soon.

    • If you decide to pick up a Sarina Bowen book, you should start with the Ivy Years series, then move on tho this one, as it kind of happens afterwards, and there are some familiar characters in it 😉
I have completely fallen in love with her writing, though, so, so good!
