Hilarious because of the silly puns, Scythe does matter had me laughing so hard there were often tears involved.

My Scythe Does Matter review:

Kirsty d’Arc has to stay in hell for just a little longer, and while all is well with Dante and her other new friends, she is peeved at not being granted getting back to the coil and what she still thinks of as her real life. Between working to get back at Conrad, and at the same time getting her life back; and trying to function as well as possible in Hell, Kirsty has her work cut out for her. However, falling in love with Dante was not part of her plan for her stay in hell.

Scythe Does Matter is filled with wordplay and really silly puns, and I was laughing very often while reading. There is a real story going on as well, though, Kirsty has really grown a lot since I first met her in The Reluctant Reaper. After learning she has to stay in Hell for a while longer, Kirsty faints and finds herself hovering above her body in the coil. And she realizes ten months have already passed there with Conrad still scheming to find yet another soul to make sure he can stay far away from Hell himself. What she finds out makes her adamant to make sure Conrad can’t do any more harm than he has already done.

To deal with all her problems at once, Kirsty starts classes to become a reaper herself, and both her classes and her new friends are a lot of fun to read about. Written in first and third person past tense, Scythe Does Matter is quite fast paced, and I have to admit I enjoyed the romance as much as I enjoyed the humor. Of course, the little mystery added on top was like icing on the cake.

Some of my favorite Scythe Does Matter quotes:

I searched his eyes for the truth. “You don’t want me to go?”
“Never, cara. how could you not know? All the times I told you I loved you. Ti amo”
Ohhh! So that’s what that means. Hell’s universal translator had rendered it as “I love bullets.” It had seemed a weird thing to say in bed, but now I knew.
“I ti amo you, too, Dante”

“Andiamo,” he said. Whether that referred to love or bullets, I didn’t care.

For some reason, it had turned unreasonably cold. I longed for the polar bear fleece hoodie Dante had bought me. Suddenly I remembered telling Shannon on my last day on Earth that it would be a cold day in Hell before I saw the inside of a classroom again. Oh, look. I’d been right.

I scanned the text, checking out the curriculum. “Reap What You Sew: Styling your Robe.”

I could have gone on and on with the quotes, there are a lot that are really funny. If you’re looking for a light read with lots of laughter, a good story, and maybe even a meeting with the ruler of hell, you should check this series out.
