There's punishment-and then there's vengeance.

Nora Sutherlin is being held, bound and naked. Under different circumstances, she would enjoy the situation immensely, but her captor isn't interested in play. Or pity.

As the reality of her impending peril unfolds, Nora becomes Scheherazade, buying each hour of her life with stories-sensual tales of Søren, Kingsley and Wesley, each of whom has tempted and tested and tortured her in his own way. This, Nora realizes, is her life: nothing so simple, so vanilla, as a mere love triangle for her. It's a knot in a silken cord, a tangled mass of longings of the body and the heart and the mind. And it may unravel at any moment.

But in Nora's world, no one is ever truly powerless-a cadre of her friends, protectors and lovers stands ready to do anything to save her, even when the only certainty seems to be sacrifice and heartbreak....

The Mistress shows yet another side of Nora, while bringing her allies to the forefront to do their best so she and Søren will stay safe… and alive.

My The Mistress review:

As the summary states, in The Mistress, Nora is held captive and she tells her captor a story every evening, both to keep both of them occupied and to stay alive to see another day. Of course, I, as a reader, was part of the audience to Nora’s stories as well. Stories about Kingsley, Søren, how they met, and their first kinky encounters. And learning more about the past the three main characters in The Original Sinners shared is something I crave more and more with each book. Seeing the past as told by Nora, and also the way Kingsley reminisces his youth with Søren was very well done, and made perfect sense with the three-some’s current day predicament.

The Mistress really brought to light a person in Søren and Kingsley’s shared past, one who would stop at nothing to make them suffer as she felt they had made her suffer as well. Many people came together to try to save Nora from her captor’s grasp, even Grace was playing an active role around the house where the men had converged to spy, plot and conquer. It didn’t take me too long to realize just what would happen with Grace around, and I was quite happy for once to see that I was right.

When time for the final showdown came around, I was moved by how much love there was between Søren and Nora, and even Kingsley. The lengths they all were ready to go to in order to save each other was astonishing and heartwarming at the same time. Their complex and intricate relationships and personalities moved the story forward seamlessly, and made me love them even more than before.

Some of my favorite The Mistress quotes:

Søren raised his eyebrow at her and she almost giggled. She was beginning to like this guy. She’d fallen in love with him already – utterly, completely and until the end of the world or even after. Never guessed she’d end up liking him, too.

He could have hated the priest for the reminders upon his boy of a night he feared would never be repeated. Still, he cherished the bruises now as much as he did when they were boys at school. Far more than the scars on his chest, gifts from enemies with guns, he wore them as badges of honor.

Wesley turned and discovered a prince where a frog should be – shoulder-length dark hair, olive skin, riding boots and a frock coat, handsome beyond reason. Did  Nora not have any ugly men in her life?
