Amy moved from Seattle after a big fight with her boyfriend - after his reaction to her new job left her thinking he really didn't appreciate her at all, and that he was acting like a cave-man. However Jeff has always made Amy feel like his own job is the most important thing in his life - even more important than their relationship. Due to Jeff's inability to see things her way, Amy takes off for New York to start a new career, and for months she hasn't even spoken to Jeff. Until that one morning on her train to work, when someone familiar sits down next to her.

Ticket Home is the fifth book in the Strangers on a Train series. Of course, these books do not have to be read in any particular order, but Ticket Home is the last one I read. Unfortunately, it is also my least favorite in the series. The playfulness and the amazing sexual tension I felt in the other stories was not as present here. I think one of the reasons why is that Amy and Jeff aren’t exactly strangers – and so the whole strangers on a train thing cannot really apply to them. And instead of sexy romance, there is a lot of anger between them, because even if Amy is still attracted to him, she is not over the way she felt he treated her.

Of course, there is some great humor in Ticket Home as well, especially when Amy decides she needs to get away from Jeff on the morning train, and she runs through the train, until a security guard asks her what is wrong, and she tells him Jeff is stalking her. On the next station, he is off the train and has to spend some time explaining himself to the local police.

I think there were two things missing for me to enjoy Ticket Home as much as I enjoyed the other Strangers on a Train stories – one would be less bitterness on both of the characters’ part, and the other would be more actual humor and playfulness. Ticket Home did have it’s moments, though, and if you haven’t read any of the books in this fun series written by different authors, maybe you should start with this one? And you might actually enjoy the fact that Amy is fighting herself to stay away from Jeff until she is sure he loves and respects her completely. That her career is just as important as his, and that a date should not take place while one of them is on the phone with a client.

Stupid workaholic Jeff with his stupid phone.

It was too many hours spent too close to him. Months of living with him and having constant access to sex had conditioned her to associate the sight, smell and sound of him with mind-blowing orgasms.
