#OctobeRec Fest Review #6 ~ Knotted ~ Pam Godwin

#OctobeRec Fest Review #6 ~ Knotted ~ Pam Godwin

Thanks for joining me for OctobeRec Fest. I really enjoyed spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogger/reader friends. I aimed for 9 and only completed 6 but I’m proud of my progress. 😉 And you’ll see this feature again next year! Title: Knotted Author: Pam Godwin Recommended by: Michelle Hennessy (a reader I met at RARE Paris) Knotted was intense and emotional. It made for an introduction to PGodwin’s writing that I won’t soon forget. Despite there being a few things in the story that stretched suspension of disbelief, I felt PGodwin created a story with gritty elements and engaging characters and wove something beautiful. Conor and Jake […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #5 ~ One True Loves ~ Taylor Jenkins Reid

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: One True Loves Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid Recommended by: Tanya @Girl Plus Books One True Loves was my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book and now I’m clamoring for all her backlist. Holy wow! This was in incredibly emotional story and TJReid delivered ALL the feels. I can’t thank Tanya enough for the recommendation. 🙂 TJReid did a phenomenal job in weaving together the threads of Emma’s, Jesse’s, and Sam’s stories. She deftly conveyed the uncertainties of the teen years, […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #4 ~ Lucifer’s Daughter ~ Eve Langlais

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: Lucifer’s Daughter Author: Eve Langlais Narrator: Rebecca Estrella Recommended by: Melanie @Hot Listens Lucifer’s Daughter wasn’t my first Eve Langlais read but I’d met Muriel in another book and really wanted her story. Melanie really liked ELanglais and recommended this series so I gave it a go in audio. I adored Muriel’s story and REstrella’s narration for the most part. Highlights: Characters Muriel is quite entertaining. She’s strong, independent, smart, honest, a virgin… hehe Yeah, her dad is not […]

Review: The Kingmaker – Kennedy Ryan

Review: The Kingmaker – Kennedy Ryan

The Kingmaker is a masterpiece of a novel! There is a social issue that is important, there is romance, and there is some very strong characters you should all want to meet. I don’t even know where to start with my review for The Kingmaker. Lennix is one of the most amazing female characters I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She is strong, she fights for what she believes is right, she is smart, she is humble, self confident. And she’s also such a great friend, she includes people and yeah, she’s my kind of heroine for sure! Maxim is a fantastic character as well. He has principles, and he keeps them – even when in some ways […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ Alien Mate ~ Cara Bristol

#OctobeRec Fest Review #3 ~ Alien Mate ~ Cara Bristol

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: Alien Mate Author: Cara Bristol Recommended by: Sophia Rose @Delighted Reader and Melanie @Hot Listens Alien Mate is a book I’d not have picked up without a recommendation from a trusted blogging friend. It sounded kinda cheesy if I was judging by the title but if Sophia Rose and Melanie thought it was worthwhile I figured I’d give it a try. Thanks, ladies, you didn’t steer me wrong. 😉 Highlights: Plot I appreciated the premise for the story – […]

#OctobeRec Fest Review #2 ~ Hounded ~ Kevin Hearne

Welcome to OctobeRec Fest. I started this as a nod to Oktoberfest (books & beer…heaven, am I right?!?) so I’ll spending the month of October reading a few of the many, many books I’ve procured thanks to you, my blogging friends. Title: Hounded Author: Kevin Hearne Recommended by: Kimba @Caffeinated Reviewer, Melanie @Hot Listens Okay, so Hounded could be considered a little outside my usual MO. I mean, there’s no romance. 😉 But Kimba raved about it. So did Melanie. And, there was my blogger wife as well. 😉 So I gave it a go and it was everything they made it out to be. Highlights Characters Oh my do I love Atticus. As a multi-millennia old druid, he’s seen a […]

Audio Review ~ Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words ~ Tara Sivec & Andi Arndt

Audio Review ~ Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words ~ Tara Sivec & Andi Arndt

Heidi’s Guide to Four Letter Words was, in a word, hysterical. If you’ve read Tara Sivec before, you know you’re going to get laugh-out-loud humor. And even though Heidi’s story was a joint effort with Andi Arndt, there was plenty of humor. Seriously. Heidi is a good girl. She’s not a prude and the word prim comes to mind but that feels derogatory. I think she’s been sheltered and has always done what was expected of her. A good girl. So when she finds herself at a crossroads, thanks to being fired from her position as a kindergarten teacher, she chooses the road less traveled. Now, that wasn’t intentional on Heidi’s part but it was a hilarious journey. And you’ll […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Johnny ~ JA Huss

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Johnny ~ JA Huss

In Johnny, everything became clear. Er…sort of. Well, I understand Johnny better anyway. It was quite a crazy ride. And although I didn’t think it was possible, Johnny became my favorite Bossy brother. 😉 LOL, yeah, we sure did get some answers, but things didn’t exactly get all that clear anyway. I do agree that we got to understand Johnny better, and he actually became my favorite Bossy brother, too. Who would have thought? You and I agreeing like that 😉 I don’t know what I thought was going to happen when Johnny set off on this mission but it wasn’t rescuing a girl left in a dungeon to die. So I was immediately on edge. But I did appreciate […]

Audio Review ~ White Knight ~ Meghan March

Audio Review ~ White Knight ~ Meghan March

Although not as suspenseful as its predecessor, White Knight was an engaging and exciting conclusion to the duet. And, of course, Ardnt and York were perfect!! White Knight picked up where Black Sheep ended. Good thing since I’d been biting my nails anxiously awaiting the continuation of that scene. It was shocking but not for the reasons I’d been anticipating. Once things are cleared up between Drew/Memphis and Cannon, the story took a turn. Memphis’s original purpose for insinuating herself into Cannon’s life changes and Cannon works to prove he’ll do whatever he can to get her the answers she needs. He also has to prove to his family – his father and brother – that he’s worthy. But he wants to […]

ARC Review ~ All the Better Part of Me ~ Molly Ringle

ARC Review ~ All the Better Part of Me ~ Molly Ringle

All the Better Part of Me was a rather heartwarming read. Witnessing Sinter figure out his sexuality and deal with the repercussions was compelling even if I did get frustrated with him at times. He was, in all honesty, doing the best he could given the “tools” he had. Highlights: Characters Sinter immediately captivated me. His love of 80’s music, Shakespeare, and emo-style of dressing felt familiar and comfortable. And his career as an actor made his flair for the dramatic realistic. I adored Sinter’s best friend, Andy. He was such a perfect fit for Sinter…understanding, supportive, all the things a best friend should be. The supporting cast was pretty great as well. From Fiona and Sebastian to Daniel and […]
