Audio Review ~ Lothaire ~ Kresley Cole

Audio Review ~ Lothaire ~ Kresley Cole

Lothaire is a character I’ve long looked forward to learning more about. He’s the Enemy of Old to be sure but I’ve found him to be quite a lot of fun, too. I was excited to get his book. Even more so to see what kind of woman would bring him to his knees. Ellie – Elizabeth to Lothaire – was a spitfire of a girl. Growing up in the mountains of Appalachia and enduring what the mines did to her family only sharpened the girl she was. She was whip-smart, witty, tenacious, resourceful, and determined. That she’d been inhabited by a demoness and ended up on death row after the occupier went on a killing spree was nothing Ellie […]

Review: Trouble With the Cursed – Kim Harrison

Review: Trouble With the Cursed – Kim Harrison

Trouble with the cursed is an adrenaline rush on crack! Rachel has so many things going on at the same time it’s almost impossible to keep up and breath at the same time! Oh my gosh! I don’t even know why I’ve waited a bit over a month to read this latest installment in the Hollows series, but somehow that happened. Rachel is still my best demon-witch, and I love her with all my heart! Even if there’s not really much I can say without spoiling things for those who haven’t gotten this far in the series yet… Of course, Jenks is very present in Trouble with the Cursed, even when Rachel tries to protect him. And Trent is there […]

Review ~ Pride and Prometheus ~ John Kessel

Review ~ Pride and Prometheus ~ John Kessel

I’m rather enamored of all things Pride & Prejudice so when I saw Pride and Prometheus on the library shelf, I couldn’t resist. I’m happy I didn’t pass it up. Pride and Prometheus, a mashup of Pride & Prejudice and Frankenstein, was engaging and thought-provoking, and I felt JKessel served both classics honorably. Pride and Prometheus places our story following the end of Pride & Prejudice but during Frankenstein, and has a very gothic feel. While Victor Frankenstein and his monster are main characters, Mary Bennet is the heroine rather than Elizabeth. Victor is on a mission to create a companion for his original creation as his monster is threatening Victor’s loved ones. However, he struggles with the ramifications of […]

Review ~ A Fall of Water ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ A Fall of Water ~ Elizabeth Hunter

A Fall of Water was the perfect ending to B & Gio’s story, as well as the Elemental Mysteries series. EHunter brought things to a very satisfying conclusion without it being trite. She also setting the stage for the two (?) spinoff series in such a way as to ensure I continue on with these characters. 🙂 Special thanks, once again, to Lenore of Celebrity Readers for buddy reading with me. *mwah* Everything has been leading up to this final book. The culmination of it all was exhilarating, gut-wrenching, and riveting. B and Gio spend much time apart as they deal with politics and locating allies required in order to prevent a war as well as the release of a […]

Review ~ The Force of Wind ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ The Force of Wind ~ Elizabeth Hunter

OH. MY. GOODNESS. EHunter continues to hold me captive with this series. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like this series keeps getting better. I was so eager to crack open this book but I could never have prepared for all it contained. Gah! So intense! The Force of Wind kept me riveted with this installment. I was alternately biting my nails, tearing up, and swooning. The Force of Wind puts the romance between B and Gio on the back burner in favor of lots of action. It begins with B and Gio traveling to China – yet another fantastic locale. They’re meeting Tenzin there for a conference with is essentially the ruling council of vampires. The surprises that […]

Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ This Same Earth ~ Elizabeth Hunter

I was thrilled to be able to continue this series as a buddy read with my COYER friend, Lenore! It makes for more exciting reading when you can actively discuss the book while you’re reading it. This Same Earth picks up 5 years after the end of the first book. B is now a research librarian living in California and dating. Gio is never far from her thoughts, much to her dismay since he left her, but life is good. Then one day while working, B gets a whiff of a familiar scent and she’s once again being drawn into a world she thought she’d left behind…and back to Gio. Even though most of it’s been done off-page, I could […]

Review ~ A Hidden Fire ~ Elizabeth Hunter

Review ~ A Hidden Fire ~ Elizabeth Hunter

If I hadn’t read other books from EHunter, I’d feel a lot worse for not having gotten to A Hidden Fire sooner. As it is, I’m still kicking myself. But I was thrilled to be able to join Sophia Rose and Lenore (COYER friends) in a buddy read, especially because I was able to chat, moon, and generally wax poetic about how incredible this book is! Beatrice is a heroine after my own heart since she’s studying to be a librarian. 🙂 She lives with her grandmother, having lost her father and then grandfather, and attends school in Houston. Who would have thought her chosen field would lead her to knowledge of what really happened to her dad, a supernatural […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Halfway to the Grave ~ Jeaniene Frost

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Halfway to the Grave ~ Jeaniene Frost

Oh wifey! I’m so excited to have started our re-read of the Night Huntress series for the COYER read-along. It’s been so very long since I was in Cat & Bones’s world and I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed them! You know, when I started Halfway to the Grave, I realized I first read this series in 2011, before I even started blogging. And I had forgotten how much I loved both Cat and Bones. It was so nice to come back into the universe of the Night Huntress.   I have to admit that I’d completely forgotten how prejudiced Cat was when we first meet her. I mean, I understand the reasons behind it, but still. I was […]

Bookworm Bites ~ The Blood King & The Warrior King ~ Abigail Owen

Bookworm Bites ~ The Blood King & The Warrior King ~ Abigail Owen

Wowza! The Blood King was fantastic! Ladon and Skylar’s story was action-packed! There were lots of dragon battles as well as battles of will and battles of the heart. These two were absolutely fated for each other but both were too stubborn to recognize the signs. Once they did, they were too stubborn to want to give in. LOL The banter between these two was fun and built the sexual tension. There was more to the story than the romance though. We got to know more about dragon culture and the ways in which phoenixes and dragons ruled together. And we got even more insight into Pytheios’s sick determination to be the immortal ruler of all dragon clans. I read […]

Review: The Iron Raven – Julie Kagawa

Review: The Iron Raven – Julie Kagawa

The Iron Raven features Puck as the main character, and I feel like I have waited for his book since forever! What a pleasure to be back in Kagawa’s fairylands once more. And even more so to learn much more about Puck, and how he was often somewhat an outsider, but one who wanted to fit in – at least sometimes. There is trouble in Faerie, and this trouble is so big it might just be too much for Puck, the Iron Fey, and a new possible ally to fight the good fight. The Iron Raven shows a different side of Faerie, now that there is a specific place where the Forgotten have taken up residence. Ethan as their champion […]
