Review ~ Rattlesnake Road ~ Amanda McKinney

Review ~ Rattlesnake Road ~ Amanda McKinney

Oh how I lament the fact I’ve allowed Rattlesnake Road to languish on my virtual shelf for so long. 🙁 I was hooked from the first page and struggled to put it down to focus on anything else. And when I finished, I quickly went to check out AMcKinney’s backlist. Yep. I was that impressed. Rattlesnake Road was emotional, riveting, and, at times, creepy. It all combined for excellent reading. Grey Dalton thought she’d lost everything. And then she hit rock bottom and really lost it all. Of course, change was inevitable but not necessarily bad. That change included a move to Berry Springs, where she not only uncovers a mystery hidden in her newly purchased cabin, but also meets […]

Review ~ NOS4A2 ~ Joe Hill

Review ~ NOS4A2 ~ Joe Hill

Oh my! I don’t think I could’ve chosen a better *horror* book than NOS4A2 for COYER’s Outside Your Box Read-a-thon. I don’t read horror anymore. In fact, I haven’t read any in about 30 years so horro was a no-brainer when thinking of reading outside my box. While JHill didn’t shy away from the violence that defines this genre, at least in my mind, the story took precedence and it was a creative, creepy, and thought-provoking tale. I’m not going to say much about the book because if you haven’t read this, you should go in blind like I did. NOS4A2 revolved around engaging characters – even the creepy ones – as well as a story that kept me fascinated. […]

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ The Good Lie ~ A.R. Torre

Buddy Read Chat Review ~ The Good Lie ~ A.R. Torre

One element of COYER that I’m enjoying is the facilitation of buddy reading. It enables me to get to know my online friends better as well as helping me read genres I don’t read or read enough. This month, I buddy read The Good Lie by A.R. Torre with my COYER friend, Nadene. You can check out her blog, and this review, here. I’m so happy we buddy read this, Nadene! I love suspense and don’t read near enough of it. The Good Lie had me on the edge of my seat, not wanting to put it down. I’ll definitely read more from AR Torre. Yes! Me too. I read a book written by the author before (Every Last […]

ARC Review: The Last One Home – Victoria Helen Stone

ARC Review: The Last One Home – Victoria Helen Stone

The Last One Home is a rollercoaster of a psychological thriller, where the narrators make you doubt them with almost every step they take, and every thing they say. I was already a huge fan of Victoria Helen Stone when she wrote romance novels under the name Victoria Dahl. But I have to say, her psychological thrillers are even better than her romances. I’m not sure how that’s possible, but The Last One Home had that creepy feeling from the very start. In The Last One Home, the readers follow Lauren, 35, in the present, and her mother, Donna, in the past – when Donna was 35. The back-and-forth works perfectly well for the story. And with each thing I […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Before We Were Strangers ~ Brenda Novak

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ Before We Were Strangers ~ Brenda Novak

Before We Were Strangers was chilling, riveting, and kept me guessing throughout. However, I had some difficulty connecting with some of the characters and the ending was a bit too tidy for me. This wasn’t my favorite from Novak but it was still a pretty good read. *sighs* I didn’t really enjoy this one – I found some aspects of it to be too similar to her Evelyn Talbot chronicles. And the romance wasn’t all that sweet or hot. Plus, I found the ending to be, as you said, too tidy, as well.   I can’t fathom going through what Sloane has been through in suspecting her father in the disappearance of her mother. Her father was definitely formidable but […]

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ The Dirty Ones ~ JA Huss #2018NewRelease

Blogger Wife Chat Review ~ The Dirty Ones ~ JA Huss #2018NewRelease

Wowza! That was some twisty, suspenseful, and steamy goodness! Huss is a master of the mind f*ck and she went all out in The Dirty Ones! I know, right? My mind twisted and turned, and it was impossible to figure out what was going on. I went from one shock to another, and I swear, my eyes almost bugged out of my head there for a while 😀   I don’t know that I could get a real good feel for any of the characters initially. But I liked Kiera right off the bat. She had an amazing outlook/attitude. Connor’s reaction at the airport was circumspect. I couldn’t figure out why he was so agitated although it became clear before […]

Review: Four Hearts – Belle Brooks

Review: Four Hearts – Belle Brooks

Four Hearts blew me away – and I still don’t know who the Wolf is. And I still wonder if this can ever end well. Story: As this story goes on, the suspense just gets more and more intense! I don’t know what to do with Four Hearts. I felt more like I was completely out of breath! There is so much psychological terror and meanness. It is absolutely impossible to figure out who the wolf is. And even more so who the rat is… even if I have more viable suspects for that one. If you’re a fan of romantic suspense that’s so tense you can feel your throat close up, Four Hearts – indeed this whole series – […]

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Review: Hello Again – Brenda Novak

Hello Again was so eery, I felt the suspense during the whole story, and it just seems impossible to me that Evelyn will make it through the end. There is more than one enemy now, and my goodness, the ending left me speechless and breathless. Story: The suspense and the psychological thriller aspects were even stronger in Hello Again. Evelyn has more than one person she needs to be wary of, and her newest inmate is so smart and vengeful. He’s at least as scary as Justin. Several things happen to bring more heat to Justin’s revenge, and on top of that, there are murders that seem different from his MO, but could still be by him. Amarok and Evelyn’s […]

Review: Abduction – Cynthia Eden

Review: Abduction – Cynthia Eden

Abduction is a tight suspense thriller with romance and a mysterious stalker, where Jill and Hayden just want to start over again, but so does the abductor. The suspense part of Abduction was really well done, because little by little, we learned about how Jill was abducted as a child, and Hayden saved her… This has been haunting both of them ever since, Jill so much so that she started working for the FBI finding missing children. Hayden had been seen as the main thug in Hope until he saved Jill that day, and it changed his life. But he still let her go once they were adults, as he didn’t think he was good enough for her. I think […]

Review: Dangerous Surrender – Katie Reus

Review: Dangerous Surrender – Katie Reus

Dangerous Surrender is a fast-paced romantic suspense, and it kept me second-guessing things all along, while I was cheering for the heroine to get ahead. The suspense was keeping me all wired from the very first sentence of Dangerous Surrender, I had no idea why Taylor had put on a power-suit and went into work early, and from there on, things happened fast! And there was definitely a real danger as she saw her boss, mentor and friend get killed in cold blood – due to what she had brought into the office to discuss with him that day. On the run, Taylor’s first thoughts were to go to the police. Good thing she was a little paranoid and avoided […]
