Safe and Sexy #9 – Once in a Lifetime

Safe & Sexy #9

I’ve had the idea for a feature about safe sex for a long time, ever since I had my discussion post with the same name a long time ago! And finally, Safe & Sexy was born. It’s where I will share a quote from a story I have read, and where there is a lot of hotness and sexiness, but where they still take the time to be safe! It’s important to me to read books that make me dream, but I also want them to be somewhat realistic. And to me, characters seem realistic when they take care of themselves and their partner(s)! Safe sex is a great way to do so, and when an author includes a couple of lines to share that they are indeed using condoms, I am such a happy reader. And I think it’s sexy when both new and ‘old’ lovers show that they respect each other by getting that condom, and possibly making using it both safe & sexy, hot and fun.

If you want to participate with your very own Safe & Sexy quotes, go right ahead. The more the merrier, and maybe your quote will help me add a new book to my bloated TBR shelf ๐Ÿ˜‰ One can never have enough books, right? Without further ado, here’s my Safe & Sexy quote for this week, it’s from Once in a Lifetime (Lucky Harbor #9) by Jill Shalvis. And it’s neither the first, nor the last time I’ll use one of Shalvis’ novels for this meme. She manages to make safe sex so sexy it’s impossible not to get all hot and bothered while reading!

SOMETIMES WRONG IS OH-SO-RIGHT
After a wrenching loss, Ben McDaniel tried to escape his grief by working in dangerous, war-torn places like Africa and the Middle East. Now he’s back in his hometown and face-to-face with Aubrey Wellington, the hot-as-hell woman who is trouble with a capital T. Family and friends insist she’s not the one to ease his pain, but Aubrey sparks an intense desire that gives Ben hope for the future.
Determined to right the wrongs of her past, Aubrey is working hard to make amends. But by far, the toughest challenge to her plan is sexy, brooding Ben – even though he has absolutely no idea what she’s done . . .
Can this unlikely couple defy the odds and win over the little town of Lucky Harbor?

My Safe & Sexy quote:

His eyes were black with desire. “Do you have a condom?” he asked.
“Bathroom.”
He scooped her up so that she could wrap her legs around him and carried her there. He set her on the counter and flicked on the light.
“Bottom drawer,” she managed.
He found the box, not commenting on the fact that it hadn’t been opened. In return, she didn’t comment on the fact that he obviously didn’t have a condom on him. She reached out to turn off the light but he put his ands over hers. “On,” he said.
Contrary to what anyone might think, she hadn’t actually done this in a while. She assumed it was like getting back on a bike, but just in case it wasn’t, she wanted room for error.

Thanks for stopping by today. Don’t forget to include your Safe & Sexy post in the linky. Have a fantastic Friday and happy reading.

    • Uh oh… I started really noticing unsafe sex a while back, and I think it’s one of the few things that can make me kind of wrinkle my nose and think less of the story and the characters, Geybie.
I hope you’ll enjoy Once in a Lifetime as much as I did ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope you’ll find some quotes to participate here one of these days ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Oh, that sounds intriguing, Carole! You’ll have to let me know if it has been hiding on your shelf ๐Ÿ˜‰ That has happened to me in the past, you know? The characters do have an interesting story, and I really enjoyed getting to the bottom of it!
