Safe and Sexy #7 – Dare You To

Safe & Sexy #7

I’ve had the idea for a feature about safe sex for a long time, ever since I had my discussion post with the same name a long time ago! And finally, Safe & Sexy was born. It’s where I will share a quote from a story I have read, and where there is a lot of hotness and sexiness, but where they still take the time to be safe! It’s important to me to read books that make me dream, but I also want them to be somewhat realistic. And to me, characters seem realistic when they take care of themselves and their partner(s)! Safe sex is a great way to do so, and when an author includes a couple of lines to share that they are indeed using condoms, I am such a happy reader. And I think it’s sexy when both new and ‘old’ lovers show that they respect each other by getting that condom, and possibly making using it both safe & sexy, hot and fun.

If you want to participate with your very own Safe & Sexy quotes, go right ahead. The more the merrier, and maybe your quote will help me add a new book to my bloated TBR shelf 😉 One can never have enough books, right? Without further ado, here’s my Safe & Sexy quote for this week, it’s from Dare You To by Katie McGarry. I can still remember the first time I bought condoms, and I felt a bit like Ryan does here… there is just too much choice, and the sizes sure made things rather scary, as I’d rather not have thought about size. Like at all! Now this quote is before any of the sexy times even start, but it’s still kind of sexy to me. Because Ryan is making sure he and Beth will be both safe and sexy once they take their relationship to the next level.

Dare you to cover - (un)Conventional Bookviews - Safe and Sexy

Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. “Dance with me, Beth.”
“No.” I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again….
“I dare you…”

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk’s home life, they’d send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom’s freedom and her own happiness. That’s how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn’t want her and going to a school that doesn’t understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn’t get her, but does….
Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can’t tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn’t be less interested in him.
But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won’t let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all….

My Safe & Sexy quote:

Condoms. Everywhere. I scratch the back of my neck and try to think of anything to say, but there isn’t a statement that could make this moment less uncomfortable. “You need condoms,” says Chris. Chris and I engulf the entire cramped aisle in front of the pharmacy. The middle-aged woman with the three kids eyes us as she walks past. “I’m taking it slow with Beth.”
“Slow wasn’t the position I caught the two of you in yesterday. I’m happy you’re happy, but none of us are going to be happy if little Ryans and Beths pop out of that girl.”
Point taken. Sex may not be in the plan, but it’s best to be prepared. “What do you use?”
He shrugs. “The normal shit. Are you going to do it? The writing competition?”
“Yeah.” The normal shit. That narrows it down. I survey the assortment before me. Colored, ribbed, lubricated, and because this experience isn’t God-awful enough – they have sizes.

Thanks for stopping by today. Don’t forget to include your Safe & Sexy post in the linky. Have a fantastic Friday and happy reading.

    • I’m glad you found this funny 🙂 love sharing safe sex quotes, because I really think it’s important that characters in my sexy books take care of themselves and their partners!
I hope you’ll find some sex scenes to share with me in the future, Geybie 🙂

  1. lol I love scenes like this as well. Showing how great it is to be safe when it comes to sex. They do have all different kinds don’t they? I bet it can be overwhelming especially if your new at it.

    • They do, and I think that’s just making things more difficult. It’s hard enough to have the courage to go into the aisle where the condoms are, and when there’s a full shelf of different ones, it’s almost impossible, because WHY are there so many different ones?

  2. I don’t read much romance, but I am going to keep this feature in mind for other genre books that feature safe sex. I think you are so right that characters need to talk about safe sex. For me, it adds a bit of realism into fantasy. I can relate to characters that tackle those tough conversations that the rest of us need to have.
This book sounds really good, thanks for featuring it!
