Sidekick Saturday #9 – Villain among Villains

Sidekick Saturday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Jaclyn at JC’s Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn’t have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in this week’s type
• Share a picture (if possible) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don’t include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• Put your link in the Linky thing and comment

This week, Jaclyn has chosen a side character who is a true villain among villains

To me, a true villain, one who might even be the worst villain I have ever met in a book has to be Seth Tate from Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vampires series. In the first book, Seth is introduced as being the mayor of Chicago, and he seems pretty decent, apart from the fact that he’s always teasing Merit. He is also friends with Merit’s father, which is not really a good point for him, but still he seemed OK. Later on, Merit could feel something strange around him, and she felt that he was really, really old, with a magic she couldn’t describe.

Seth is described as being very good-looking, and I have a pretty nice image of him in my head… Too bad I’m not as good at drawing as Jaclyn is – as usual, I’m not posting a drawing – but who knows? Maybe one day I will.

“Tate’s not trustworthy,” he said. “He knows about us – has know about us – and even though his appointment of your grandfather seems well-intentioned, the man’s secretive.[…]” (From Some Girls Bite)

Tate controls the purse and the policy direction. That means he pulls the strings. (From Some Girls Bite)

[…]tied a little too closely to Mayor Tate, whose position regarding “the vampire problem” was less than clear. (From Friday Night Bites)

This was the Seth Tate that destroyed his enemies. And we were now his targets. (From Hard Bitten)

“And you do not want me as an enemy,” Tate concluded. “you do not want me requesting a grand jury to consider the crimes of you and yours.” (From Hard Bitten)

With shocking speed, Tate switched back from Caopne to front-page orator, smiling magnanimously at us. “Blackmail is such a harsh word, Ethan.” (From Hard Bitten)

“Tate’s under pressure to reassure Chicagoans about vampires. He decides to be proactive – he helps create a problem, he helps solve the problem. Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am, and his poll numbers are up by twenty percent.” (From Hard Bitten)

There are more quotes in Drink Deep, but I can’t find any – because it’s not indexed on my kindle anymore 🙁

Who is your villain among villains? I can’t wait to see what you came up with!

Thanks for stopping by. Have a spectacular Saturday 🙂

  1. Oooh the Chicagoland series. One that I haven’t read, but definitely heard a ton about. I think villains are great when they come from a place of power like that – makes them so very intimidating. He would already be pretty scary as the Mayor if he’s bad at all, but throw in this old magic and he must be a truly spectacular villain. Fantastic choice! Love the quotes 😀 So sorry your about your Kindle and the last one. Thank you for participating! You make my Saturdays much more fun 😀 Have a great weekend!

    • oh, the Chicagoland series… I’m not as fond of this series as I was for the first few books, but Seth is still an über-villain, and the fact that we don’t even know what he is still intrigues me. Between being the mayor and having some kind of power, and also being extremely cunning and beautiful makes him a great one 🙂

Thanks for stopping by Jaclyn! You make my Saturdays much more fun, too!!

      *hugs*

  2. You and Jaclyn both picked villains from series that I haven’t read. I do, of course, have Chicagoland books 1 & 2 patiently waiting on me! Gah! Well, now I really want to read the series…I love a great villain. And Seth Tate seems to fit the bill perfectly. 🙂

I’ve been trying to come up with a villain of my own…I think I’ll go with Avarice from Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers series. He’s a truly evil demon who will stop at nothing to get what he wants.

Hope you’re enjoying the weekend, Lexxie! *hugs*

  3. I love a good villain, I haven’t read this series but it has been on my TBR list for ages. I really need to get my but into gear and post mine. I love my sidekick Saturdays.

    • Seth is awesome! He’s the reason why I’ve continued with the series…

Thanks for stopping by Jennifer 🙂

  4. I read the first few books and I can’t remember the Mayor! I feel like reading the books again because it’s driving me crazy. He’s friends with her dad, but I don’t remember the teasing part. Man! I’ll have to talk to my sister about this because she’s up to date on this series.
