The Sunday Post #10 – Weekly Wrap-up

Welcome to my weekly wrap-up post. I am signing up with Kimba over at The Caffeinated Reviewer, who is hosting this weekly event.

This week feels like it’s been going on forever! On Monday when I got home from class, I felt great, then suddenly my sinuses started hurting and I felt pretty sick instead. The rest of the week I’ve been fighting a sinus infection, while still having loads of things to do and no real chance for rest. I did manage to read some great books, though, so I guess that’s a nice bonus to a week that wasn’t the best ever.

I haven’t even started my Christmas shopping yet, and I really don’t have much time left. I need to make some time for that next week – but it’s also the last week of classes, so I just hope I won’t be too busy.

Something pretty great did happen, though! For my WoW post, I had tweeted a link to Lori Foster, as I featured her book Holding Strong, and look what she did:

She is going to send me a real ARC of Holding Strong! I have never gotten an actual ARC before, since I live in Europe, but she proposed to send me one, and didn’t balk at sending it overseas. I’m so excited!

Also, Friday was a special day in Geneva, because a little over 400 years ago the French from Haute-Savoie tried to overtake the city – and failed – and this is celebrated every year. People dress up and part (kind of like Halloween in the US) and we also have a big pot of chocolate with marzipan ‘vegetables’ inside because a woman was able to throw a huge pot of hot soup on the French soldiers to make them flee. Nowadays, with the chocolate pot, the kids break it with their hands while saying ‘This is how the enemies of the republic were defeated’.

  1. Hope you feel better, and good luck with the shopping. We’re a little behind too but we did go out yesterday and that helped. I think we’re going to make it LOL. Congrats on scoring the ARC- very cool!

    • We’ll probably make it, too, but with only ten days left, I have to admit I’m feeling a little stressed. We did decorate the Christmas tree this morning, so it’s a little more Christmas-y here now.
      Have a great week, Greg.

  2. Hope you feel better soon. I’m glad you’re able to get the arc. Hopefully, it won’t take too long in the mail. I know this time of year it there seems to be longer delays because the volume with all the packages.

So glad to hear you’ve been encouraged to listen to more audiobooks in 2015. I’m always glad to have more audio junkies. 🙂

    • Even if it takes weeks for the ARC to get here, I’m so excited to actually get an ARC that isn’t an eARC 🙂
I’m already feeling much better, but I’m behind on everything now. I hope I’ll be able to finish my homework today, so that I can spend next week getting ready for Christmas.
Audibooks are growing on me, Melanie, and you’re partly responsible for that, for sure 😉

  3. Omg how cool of Lori Foster! I’ve never read her books, but I’m thinking she must be a cool person!

Sorry you weren’t feeling well, there seems to be a lot of the sniffles going around! I’m feeling okay, but I’m going to wash my hands like a madwoman for a while 😛

I just love hearing about other traditions! That sounds do fun and the chocolate pot is so cool. Looks yummy

    • I’ve read several of Lori Foster’s books, and I really enjoy the way her romances have much more to them than the couple falling in love .)

Ha! I was washing my hands all the time as well. But I am feeling much better now, thank you Berls 🙂

Yes, the Escalade (because the French tried to climb the wall around the city) is a great tradition, and the chocolate is SO good.

  4. Oh, those sinus infections are the worst! I used to get them all the time…hope you feel better soon!

And how great that Lori Foster is sending you an ARC….now I want to read one of her books! And I can’t believe I haven’t yet.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and enjoy your week.

  5. What a cool holiday. How interesting and contradictory, that a nation so adverse to being invaded, or even changing the language, would have been invading Switzerland. Of course, 400 years is a long time so I guess they could have changed some between then and now. And also I guess Napoleon was rather fond of invading places and was French. Still,… I never understand why anyone would want to invade another place if it wasn’t strategic. my post: http://fangswandsandfairydust.com/2014/12/easy-like-sunday-morning.html

    • Heh, but the French weren’t adverse to invading other countries – even very long ago there was a French court in England 🙂 I think Geneva was pretty strategic even back then, in the middle of Europe, independent, with a lake, and the city on top of a small hill surrounded by a tall wall…
      Thanks for stopping by, Steph.

  6. Sorry you are not feeling well! I can totally feel your sinus pain since this weekend my sinuses started acting up and now I feel like someone ran my face over with a bus.

I don’t know Lori Foster but that is so cool she is sending you the book! I bet you made her day as much as she made your day 🙂

Different holidays are so interesting, I love hearing about them. I hope it was a wonderful day for you and your family!

    Have a great week Lexxie!!!

  7. Yuck! I hate sinus infections, Michelle! I hope you’ll be feeling better soon, too.

I certainly hope I contributed to her day being good, mine was amazing thanks to her!

    • Yeah, she totally made my day, Laura. I can’t wait to get her book and start reading it 🙂
I’m sure I’ll be able to get my shopping done – I can’t disappoint the children for Christmas, now, can I?
      Have a great evening 🙂

  8. Lori did that to me for a Wow I did ..she is such a wonderful person and very appreciative of her fans. I remember how I felt that day…congrats! I hope you are still giddy from it. Thanks for sharing your celebration with us, I love how folks remember and teach their kids today.
