Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #48
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
Today, I have a Thirsty Thursday quote, that is kind of mixed with a Hungry Hearts quote, it’s from Laid Out by Sidney Halston, and I really enjoyed the main character, Violet. In this scene, she is on a blind date with John, and it starts out pretty well.
My Thirsty Thursday quote:
Violet laughed. “No, no. I don’t have sleeves or piercings like you guys, but I’m not an uptight bore either. I mean, you’ve met my best friend, do you think she’d hang out with a judgmental drag?”
John laughed, “No, I guess not.” He gestured for JL, “Hey, JL can you get me a beer, anything on draft, and for Violet…”
“Red wine, coming right up.” JL interrupted knowing exactly what Violet drank. Two drinks and a lovely dinner of greasy bar food later, Violet was still laughing. Almost immediately, he made her feel at ease. For the first time in a long time, Violet felt happy being on a date.
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.

Aww, sounds like a cute book. Not sure about you, but I always feel weird about drinking wine at a restaurant when my friends are drinking beer or hard alcohol. I’m not sure why I’d feel embarrassed, but subconsciously I do.
It was a really nice story, and I enjoyed Violet! I used to have the opposite ‘problem’ most of the girls I knew when I was younger drank wine, and I preferred beer, and they were like ‘oh, I thought only guys drank beer’ :O I didn’t really mind, but it was weird – maybe it’s a cultural thing?
“lovely dinner of greasy bar food” – Sounds like the perfect date to me! 🙂
I agree… and I wanna go to a bar, have some good beers and greasy bar food 😀
Wine, beer and greasy bar food sounds perfect to me 🙂
I agree, Grace, best date food for sure 🙂
I like the sound of this date 😉 and these characters, Lexxie. And it seems like they were having a great blind date. Drinks and bar food reminds me of dates I’ve had…like just last week! *haha*
Happy Thursday, my friend! **BIG HUGS**
Yes, they definitely had a goo blind date, up until a certain point… Heh, you went on a date last week? I need to go on one of those soon.
*BIG HUGS*
Ooh, sometimes greasy bar food is good…but today, it sounds less than appealing…LOL. Great excerpt! Happy Thursday…I couldn’t find food excerpts in either of my reads today…sigh.
Good thing greasy bar food isn’t what we crave all the time, right?
