Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #56
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
Today, my quote is from Before We Were Strangers by Renée Carlino, there are so many quotable sentences in this book it is so amazing! And I love how Grace had found a way to get free lunch plus get paid for it as well, in NYC while she and Matt were college students.
My Hungry Hearts Quote:
“We’re having lunch at the New York Plasma Center?”
“Yep. So here’s the deal. For your first time you can only do plasma. Make sure you eat as many of the free pretzels and granola bars as you can and rink as much of the juice, too. Then you can hang out with me while I get my platelets sucked out.”
“Wait… huh?”
“Yeah, it takes, like, an hour to do the platelets, which really gives us time to feast. Then you’ll get twenty-five bucks and I’ll get fifty.”
I tried to process what she had just told me, but when she started laughing, I couldn’t help laughing, too.
“You think I’m crazy, huh?”
“No, I think it’s a great idea. You’re a genius.”
She elbowed me playfully. “We’re gonna get along.”
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.

Dang! I don’t know if that’s crazy or genius.:)
I know, right? We don’t get any money here for donating blood, but we do get food and drinks 🙂
Oh my…what a plan! Sounds like a fun book!
It was an amazing book, Carole, the best second-chance-at love story I’ve ever read, I think! Very complex, and with so many outside forces against them…
I’ve never heard of such a thing! I know that you get juice and cookies when you give blood, though. Interesting excerpt.
I’ve never heard of actually getting money, either, but it definitely made sense why they would go back to donate blood over and over, Laurel-Rain 🙂
*haha* That’s pretty funny! And I’m thinking she might be more crazy and genius! 😉
I think she’s pretty much a genius, Brandee 😉 *HUGS*
Hey. Free food and getting paid. Why not? Lol. Not sure I’d be doing that often though haha. Great quote!
Here, we’re only allowed to donate blood three or four times per year, in order to keep our iron level up 🙂 And we don’t get any money, but we do get food and drinks, Cheryl.
