Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #100
WOW, the 100th TT&HH post – who’d have thought? Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
Today, my Hungry Hearts quote is from Jill Shalvis’ newest Heartbreaker’s Bay novel, Accidentally on Purpose. The two protagonists, Archer and Elle have history, but nothing romantic in their past… there’s a lot of chemistry, and a lot of reticence – Elle wants to make it on her own! She’s not exactly a cook, though, and this scene happens after she almost put his whole balcony on fire while attempting to grill some steaks.
My Hungry Hearts quote:
“Italian,” he said with a smile, staring down at the table. “I thought so. Chicken Parmesan? Looks amazing.”
She took a breath and smiled with relief.
I had no idea you could cook,” he said.
“Oh, well, I -” She gasped when he curled an arm around her waist and tugged her into him. He gave her a smacking kiss on the lips and then pulled back, cocking his head as he studied her.
“What?” she asked.
“Like the look.”
Pulling free, she turned to eyeball her reflection in his stainless-steel refrigerator and barely repressed a shocked shriek. Her hair had rioted and there were streaks of what looked suspiciously like charcoal across her jaw and cheek and forehead.
Archer came up behind her, leaving not even air between them, his hands on her hips, his jaw pressed to hers. He had to bend to do it too because she’d left her shoes on the patio. Along with her brain, apparently.
“Barefoot in my kitchen,” he murmured, his hot mouth against her ear.
[…] “I didn’t cook it,” she blurted out.
He flashed her a smile. “I know.”
She stared at him. “You knew the whole time?”
“Well, yeah.” He was slathering a thick hunk of Italian bread with enough butter for a heart attack with one hand, spooning more chicken parm onto his plate wit the other. She had no idea how he ate the way he did and stayed so leanly muscled.
Bastard. “How?” she demanded. “How did you know?”
He slid her an amused glance. “My barbeque’s still smoking and smells like you torched it in a bonfire. You’ve got sooth on your face and on your feet. The trash isn’t shut all the way and even from here I can see the take-out container near the top.”
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.
I’m guessing mine is one you’d never want to taste, Lexxie. The meal might suck, but the book is pretty good!
As for yours TTHH – It’s almost 1:00 am and I’m craving Italian food now. :p
Your meal didn’t sound like the best ever, but I guess sometimes, the characters just need sustenance 🙂
Yeah, I’m guessing since they just escaped from a North Korean interrogation center, they ate whatever was available. :O

awww the classic bait and switch. good effort. he has good eye tho
Yeah, he definitely has a good eye, Ailyn 🙂
I’ve bbqed chicken thighs before, so I feel like I could probably bbq steaks without blowing anything up? But they might not taste that great lol. I’m not much of a cook either. The scene sounds cute though!
Yeah, BBQ is BBQ really. I love cooking, so I wouldn’t have the same trouble Elle had, but it was really cute how she wanted to make his evening better 🙂

Hahahaha I’m LMAO that’s great! I think a great hint to him would also be you don’t cook Chicken parm on a BBQ grill lol! Great one and I’m curious about what happens in that ellipses 😉
Happy Thursday – we’re almost there! Hope you’re having a great week! {{HUGS}}
LOL true, Berls 🙂 You’re gonna have to pick up the book to know about the ellipses action :p

I had a feeling all wasn’t as it seemed. Hehe. Seriously though now I want some chicken parm.
Chicken parm is the best!
I loved this scene! 🙂 ~Aleen
It was pretty awesome, I agree 🙂
Hah! I kind of love this. Mmm…Italian. 🙂

p.s. As for Off Base, if you want to know the couple mentioned in the book (the main character’s friends), I’d read their story in the #gaymers series at least, but otherwise, you can read just Off Base. I love the #gaymers books, so I still recommend them!
Italian food is just SO good, right?
Thanks for the extra info about off Base. I think I’ll want the whole gaymers series 🙂
LOL This made me laugh, Lex. I can cook but there have been a few times when what I attempted ended in getting takeout. 😉 Too funny!
