Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #69
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
This week, I’m sharing a Hungry Hearts quote from Relativity. Ethan and his father are meeting each other for the first time, and Mark is pretty nervous… then again, so is Ethan.
My Hungry Hearts quote:
Mark’s stomach rumbled. He glanced up across the road at the red and yellow signage of McDonald’s on the corner, and contemplated grabbing something quick to eat. Ethan needed lunch too, and he’d probably be happy with a burger. Twelve-year-old boys loved fast food. Didn’t they?
As Mark queued and stared at the colorful backlit menus, it dawned on him that he didn’t know what his son liked to eat. Did Ethan have allergies? Was he vegetarian? Mark had no idea. When it was his turn to order, he panicked and bought almost everything on the menu. Cheeseburgers, Quarter Pounders, nuggets with every flavor of sauce, salad wraps – enough for twelve people, not two. He carried the heavy brown bags back to the bus stop, the greasy smell of French fries sticking to his clothes. It was too much food.
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.
Oh…poor Mark! That must have been scary. But, ahem, I’ll take some of those fries. 😉
I know, right? I felt so bad for both Mark and Ethan… and food sometimes does make everything better. I prefer fries from some other place than McDonalds, but I love fries.
Oh, poor guy! I can relate to how he feels, since in my social work career, I have watched fathers and sons getting together for food when they didn’t know each other well. It is touching to watch them try, and having too much food is a normal behavior.
It is definitely touching to watch them try, and all those thoughts about not knowing Ethan made my heart break, Laurel-Rain.
Hahah oh man poor Mark! I love this I am joining in from this Thursday! Yay!
I agree, poor Mark… YAY Priyanka! I can’t wait to see your quote 😀
McD always comes in in a pinch.
True, and it’s something most people know and enjoy – at least from time to time 🙂
Aw, that poor Mark! This is such a fun feature! I’m coming back for seconds.. and thirds.. 😉

It’s middle of the night here and I haven’t eaten lately so McDonald’s sounds extra good to me! Yum!
Aww. Just that one little quote made me feel bad for the guy. But it sounds like he’s trying, so that’s sweet. And wow, I haven’t had McDonald’s in so long! Probably not since I was in college and there was a 24 hour one nearby lol.
I don’t have McDonald’s very often, either. If I want a burger and fries, there are other places where it tastes much better IMO 🙂 It is kind of sad how Mark was trying so hard, no?

LOL he ordered a lot of food. The only time I crave anything from McD is when I am very ill. A nice cheeseburger hits the spot.
Yes, like if they had lots of food, they might not be able to say too much that would be awkward – and their silences would be more natural.
That’s really touching, Lexxie. I can’t imagine meeting my child for the first time when he/she’s 12. I’d be mighty nervous as well. I think it’s cute that Mark is so worried about what Ethan may or may not eat that he bought everything. 🙂 I hope their meeting went well.
So, obviously, I’m working at catching up. I think I’ll ask you to link me when I’m not going to be able to. You’d do that for me, right wifey?!? 😉 Hopefully your week is going well. **BIG HUGS** <3
