Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #1

Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes…  If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post. My magnificent banner is made by Silvia @ Darkest Sins, and I love it – she really captured exactly what I want to do with this meme.

The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.

For this very first Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, I want to share a great-sounding Martini Mac made in Burned by Karen Marie Moning. I would really like to try this drink, and it would be even better if Mac would make it for me 😉 At the same time, I think the fact that Mac was doing something productive and feeling good about herself in this scene is partly why I’d like for her  to prepare my drink.

He just served a smoked martini that had begun promisingly, with gin and a dash of single malt Scotch – then apparently forgot what he was doing and added vermouth, and insult to injury, an olive, pimento intact, instead of a lemon twist.

I pull the drain on the filthy water, rummage beneath the bar for clean towels, wash my hands, grab a chilled glass and stir a perfectly proportioned smoked martini.

Do you have drink or some food to share from a recent read? Thanks for stopping by today, don’t forget to link up 🙂

    • uh, oh, it seems I wasn’t really clear in my post, Mac is a girl… But she’s bad-ass, and I love her anyway 😀
      Thanks for stopping by Naomi.

    • I just figured that because I do sometimes notice food and drinks, it would be fun to have a special meme for it. Thanks for stopping by, Stormi.

  1. I don’t drink Martini’s however if he is as sexy as you say, he can make me whatever he wants 🙂

In a book I read from Maria Hall, The Mad hatter. She had cupcakes in it that I was dying to try the book was awful but I would have loved to taste the cupcakes she mentioned, I have to ask Berls because I think she actually posted recipes!
    Great new feature Lexxie!

    • I wonder if I should change my post, because Mac is a girl…

Yum, I love cupcakes, Michelle! And recipes that actually make sense in a fiction novel are awesome.

      Thanks for stopping by, Michelle.

  2. The designer of the ‘magnificent banner’ *blushes* thinks the new feature looks and sounds great, Lexxie! 😀 I’m not really a drinker (you know that), so I’ll pass this time, but I’ll make sure to try some of the amazing stuff you and others are going to share 😉

    • Thank you, Silvia 🙂 You could ALWAYS write about something the characters are eating, though, or point out why you wouldn’t want a drink they had…
      Have a terrific Thursday 😀

    • That’s awesome, Lola. I hope I’ll see you around next week 🙂 It is a fun way to get to know characters, and sometimes what they’re eating is pretty telling.

    • Thanks, Kim! I often notice it when the characters eat or drink something that looks really good or really awful. I hope this meme will take off in the coming weeks 🙂 but at least I’m having fun with it myself 😀

    • I hope you’ll stop by, Goldie, I somehow always notice the food and drinks, they sometimes come at the same time as the sexytimes, so maybe that’s why 😉 I haven’t heard of Jenna Colgan yet, I need to check her out!

  3. This is such a neat idea, Lexxie! I’m sitting here thinking of Hellfire, a drink served at Underworld – a bar from Eternal Mates series…not something I’d want to drink, I don’t think. But it sure was fun watching Loren’s reaction to it! 😉

Ooh, and in 95 days we can try out some of these drinks (in theory anyway – not made by Mac)…

    *big hugs*

    • YAY! I have to search my kindle to find some from The Hollows, too, because there are some really good food and drink quotes in those books, too. I hope we won’t drink Hellfire in 95 days, Brandee, I’ll rather have a margarita 😉 *BIG HUGS*
