Weekend Wrap-up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookviews and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews and Caffeinated Reviewer.
STS #192
Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to my library – virtual or actual, with books that are bought, borrowed, won or ARCs I will (probably) be reading soon. Without further ado, here’s what I added to my bloated shelves this past week:
Thank you St. Martin’s Press, Light Messages Publishing and NetGalley!
Salvaged is the last book in Crownover’s Saints of Denver series, which is my Read a Series in a Month challenge – and I have aced that challenge!
The Sunday Post #142 – Weekend Wrap-up
Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.
While there has been no teaching this week, and only half a day of oral exams for my students, it’s been a pretty busy week anyway. I had to enter all the grades into the system, so that all students can get their grade cards, and there are also teachers’ councils to discuss students who have not passed all their classes. The system here is fairly strict, so there are some students who won’t have the chance to continue in the high school, but have to go towards a different kind of school for the rest of their school-years. It’s pretty hard to be part of those decisions, because this will shape the students’ future, you know?
It’s been so hot I am barely functioning, and I really, really hope we’ll get some rain and cooler temperatures soon.
COYER started last week, and I have already read 6 COYER books, and currently reading my 7th. I’m really happy with my progress so far. The books I’ve read so far can be found on my COYER Goodreads shelf.

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’re enjoying your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome!
A Dirty Money series look awesome, Lexxie. Looking forward to your reviews. So curious. Anyway, have you read Buttons series by Penelope Sky? It’s great.
Enjoy your books. Have a wonderful weekend. ?
I haven’t read any Penelope Sky, I think… I guess I should check her out 😉 Thanks for stopping by, Geybie!

reading this new book called Samantha Watkins, vampire story.. i hope it’s good
Oh cool, I love vampires, especially if they’re a bit different. I hope it’s good, too, Ailyn!

I think that would be hard. I do know people who do better on that other kind of path. I have a brother-in-law who never went to college. He did technical school and became and electrician. He makes more money than I do with my three bachelor’s of science degrees. I also have a friend from high school who never even finished high school. I’m not real close with him any more, but he seems to be doing pretty well. He does work on the power lines.
There are lots of possibilities by going on other paths, but it’s hard if a student had a dream of a certain profession, and then won’t be able to go there. At the same time, it would be a waste of their time to stay somewhere they won’t be able to continue to the end, too.
Ugh, it’s been way too warm here, too. But yay for the new books!
New books make everything better 🙂

Great haul! I hope you get some rain soon, I hate when it so hot you don’t want to do much, poor Freddy. 🙂
I know… Freddy has a small basin with cool water installed in the garden, though, so he cools down when he feels the need. The hardest part for me is that I have so much trouble sleeping!

I really need to pick up a Lisa Renne Jones book I think I will really like them. Am doing terrible in the foyer challenge so far. I feel a tiny book slump happening.
I was in a slump earlier this year, so I feel you, Megan! I hope it will be short-lived! Lisa Renee Jones’ books are really good, there is a lot of suspense, but also a lot of hotness 😉
While it is always heartrending when a student doesn’t pass a course/grade level, I do think it’s better that schools try to do something about it. Whether it’s holding them back a year or if they need to go somewhere else, it’s better for them in the future. I feel like too many schools around my neck of the woods just pass a student even if they aren’t ready. My sister’s seen this as she’s a grad school teacher. The schools she works at are always more concerned with good numbers and will just pass the student to the next grade even if they haven’t fully comprehended something in their current grade. It’s sad, but I’m glad to hear your system seems to work better for the student in the long run!
Nice new reads this week! Mostly new to me ones! Though I did read Stullhouse Lake earlier this month and quite liked it. Curious to see where the series will go!
Happy Reading!
My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
Yeah, I know that’s right, but it makes me feel bad in some cases, you know? I know a decision has to be made, and I know that students who seem like they won’t make it in the field they think they want to do would be better off starting another kind of eduction while they’re still young.
I’ll definitely stop by tomorrow. And I’m really glad you enjoyed Stillhouse Lake, Jessica!
I have sympathy for Freddy. In the hot weather all I want to do is sloth in front of a big fan!
I know. I can hardly function! I just want so find somewhere cold where I can sleep :O
I got Stillhouse Lake last week, though I have yet to read. It does sound good though.
I hope we’ll both enjoy it, Emma!
Awesome haul of books this week. I hope you love all of your new books. This heat has been killing me. Freddie looks like he is exhausted.
I’m sorry you’ve been dealing with too hot weather, too, Grace!
Aww look at Freddy nap. We’ve had some hot days this year. It usually isn’t this bad, but their has been no wind to help cool things down. The day’s it’s nice I’m outside reading.
Great haul on books. Hope you enjoy them.
Yeah, he naps more than usual these days, with the heat and all. Today is a bit cooler, but it’s not exactly cool anyway – just better than last week 🙂
I have Stillhouse Lake…and downloaded Lost and Found Sisters this week. It is very hot here…Freddy looks kind of miserable.
Enjoy your week!
I hope you’ll enjoy Lost and Found sisters as much as I did, Laurel-Rain, and that we’ll both have fun with Stillhouse Lake 🙂
Hope things cool off for you! And great job on COYER so far!!
Stillhouse Lake looks so good with that cover!!
Freddy has the right idea- sometimes when it’s too hot sleeping is the best thing to do. 🙂
Yeah, since I finished my thesis I finally have time to read as much as I want to 🙂 I wish I’d be able to nap as much as Freddy does 😀

Oh no! I’m sorry that the heat has been so oppressive. It’s even making little Freddy battle!
The school system does sound strict and it’s nice to know you care so much about the students.
I hope you have a good week this week and that you can get some relief from the heat!
Yeah, our schools really are strict. And I do care about my students, most of the time, they really do try, and they work hard to make it, too.

I got Stillhouse Lake as my prime freebie and then couldn’t resist pre-ordering the audiobook for 3.00 LOL Nap are the bomb. Freddy is such a smart doggie! Stay cool my friend!
I wish I was able to nap as well as Freddy 😀 I love naps!
Wow! You’ve read a lot of COYER books! I’ve only managed to read two so far, but I’m hoping to finish at least one more this week (if not two). Have a good week, and happy reading! 🙂
Yeah, I have so much more time on my hands now that I’ve finished with my thesis 🙂
I really enjoyed Hard Rules and the rest of the books look great, enjoy!
I’m glad you enjoyed Hard Rules, Kei, I really look forward to that whole series 🙂
So many great books in your haul! I hope that it cools down a bit for you. Have a great wee ahead!
I really hope it’ll cool down more, too. It’s better today, but still not enough, in my opinion.

Well, it’s not your usual 30 000 new books on the shelf, so maybe you stand a chance of catching up? 😀
I actually haven’t grabbed almost anything last week, just one book on sale. ONE! Impressive, huh?
30’000 huh? It’s true that there are weeks when I get way too many books, but I’m also reading like a fiend these days 😀 So much fun! ONE single book is amazing, Evelina, I feel like congratulations is in order!
It’s been pretty hot here too this week. Our Cat has been having a hard time too. Thankfully it has cooled down a bit here. I’ll send some rain to Swiss 😉
That definitely sounds like something difficult to be a part of. At the hospital I coach some students, and sometimes I have to tell them they aren’t doing good enough.. Definitely not my favorite thing to do.
Have a great week Lexxie and happy reading!
We finally got a little rain, but now it’s very humid… I guess I’ll just keep on complaining 😉
It’s hard telling someone they’re not good enough, no? And at the same time, it’s necessary…
Have a great week Maureen.

Haha, thanks 😀 you are right! I almost feel proud of myself xD
🙂 you should!
It’s been hot here too. Hopefully we’ll both get cooler weather soon. During the heat I just wanted to take a nap, so Freddy has the right idea lol. I have met Jay Crownover but I still haven’t read her books. I have to read some this year. I hope you have a great week!
Freddy sure has the right idea! He’s moving around on the tiled floor to find a cool spot, then naps for a while, moves and starts napping again 😀
I’ve met Jay as well, and she was awesome! Her books are even better 😉
Awwww…I hope Freddy feels better soon.
Here’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog and join in this week’s Book Photo Sundays!
He’s good, he was just a little lazy because of theheat 😀
Good job on the Coyer books! Thats a lot of reading 🙂 It must feel great to be at the end of the school year. Have a great week and happy reading 🙂
It’s so nice to be at the end of the school year, and it’s even nicer to be back in my reading groove 🙂
I hope it cools off you a bit soon. Freddy is adorable even while sleeping. My pups have been getting a lot of nap time in as well. Great haul this week! Happy reading!
I agree… Freddy is always adorable 😀
Aw, Freddy is so cute! I love taking pictures of my dog napping. She’s a big fan of that! LOL
-Lauren
Haha, I think most happy dogs are big fans of naps, Lauren 🙂
Congratulations on 6 books in! I finished my fourth last night!
It would be incredibly hard to be a part of the decisions that affect someones future but in a way, everything we do somehow affects someone’s future.
I hope you have a fantastic week reading!
That’s well done, Cai! I’m happy COYER is off to a good start for me this year, I didn’t do very well at the Winter COYER, so I have loads of books to read 🙂
You’re right, most of our decisions somehow affect others, it’s just that this is very specific, and I hope I’ll get used to it – but not so much that I’ll stop caring 🙂

I got Stillhouse Lake for free for my Amazon prime. I think it looks pretty good.
Making decisions about a students life like that would probably make me crazy. Do they take into account about his personal life, home situation? I’d hate to think he would lose out forever due to parents drinking, or becoming homeless etc. I don’t really think it’s fair unless the student has input. Kinda sad to me.
Yeah, I got it as a June first read, too, Lorna, and I look forward to it.
Yes, we do take personal life and home situation into account – if we know about it. I teach in high school, and some students don’t share, and are quite good at hiding that things aren’t really going so well away from school…
And the students who fail the year and want to retake it can write a letter that we share during the council, and that can definitely help their case.
