The Sunday Post #179 – Weekend Wrap-up

Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.

This week felt really long! Of course, I had my teaching hours, but I’ve also spent a lot of time marking tests, and let me tell you, marking essays takes me for ever! I want to make sure I give good feedback to each of my students, because they have trouble writing essays the anglo-saxon way. In French, there is no thesis statement at the beginning of an essay, so they have such a hard time doing that in English!

Our weather has deteriorated again. Today, there is fog so low I can’t even see the mountain that’s the closest to my house. It’s raining, and it’s colder. Plus, we’re supposed to get snow on Monday :O Where is spring?

On Tuesday, I became an auntie again! My sister had a little girl, and she’s the cutest baby <3 I can’t wait to go to Norway so I can meet her in a few weeks.

This Week’s Puppies in (in)Action:

Hercules is chilling – he is either full speed or no speed at all 😀
Freddy is a bit mellow today, to. He doesn’t want to spend to much time outside in the rain.

  1. I really like the look of The Good Luck Sister!

I find it hard to get my ahead around an essay without a thesis statement at the beginning… how do you begin an essay in French?

Sorry to hear about the weather – it’s foggy and damp here too. I want spring so badly! Congrats on being an auntie again!

I think I have the same two moods as Hercules!

I received quite a few books to review this week – hope to post my weekend post later tonight.

  2. Just finished Obsidio. It was great. A new Reisz, Shalvis, and Foster. Have fun!

Depressing weather and grading papers. Yes, that would make things long. Interesting how the different essay styles are taught.

Ah, I don’t blame Freddie for wanting to stay warm and dry. Congrats on being an Auntie again! 🙂

  3. OOh nice new reads! Finished Obsidio yesterday myself and it was amazing!!! Hope you enjoy all your new reads! And congrats on having a new little niece!!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  4. Ooh Obsidio! I just finished it, good stuff. Hope it’s awesome for you- I bet it will be on audio!

Congrats on being an aunt! And hope the weather clears up soon! Same here- where is spring???

  5. Congratulations to becoming an auntie again, Lexxie!

That Lori Foster book…I got twitchy fingers this week on NG when it popped up. I don’t want to overbook myself (AGAIN) so I’ve been strong…so far. Now that I see that you have it the urge is back lol *sigh*

Our weather is pretty much the same as yours.
I checked out Greg’s discussion – interesting posts.

  6. There is no thesis statement in a French essay? My students would LOVE that. They have such a hard time writing good thesis statements. Marking tests and essays is always so time consuming. Hopefully you are able to enjoy your books! Great book haul!

  7. The pups look so cute. I always say Cass has to speeds…full speed ahead and stop. Looks like you got some good books. You asked about our teacher’s strike. They were out 9 days and they were doing so because they wanted a 5% raise to help cover the rising cost of their insurance. They finally got it and also appointed a special committee to look at the insurance and try to overhaul it which is a good thing because my husband has the same state insurance.

  8. Congratulations on your new niece! That’s exciting.

The mountain near your home? Don’t laugh, is it part of the Alps?Geography and me are not friends but I do know that the Alps are at least partially(if not all?)in your country.

As always, love your dogs pictures. Hope you have a good week and that the fog goes away. We are supposed to have 1-3 inches of snow on Tuesday as well. Crazy weather!

  9. Congrats on your new niece!

I like the look of The Good Luck Sister. Enjoy your books, and I hope you find a way to make grading essays less time-consuming.

    Have a great week!

  10. Yes… marking tends to take me a long time, too. Fortunately most of my students now send their work to me electronically so I can often use TrackChanges which I find much quicker. I hope the coming week is an easier one, Lexxie:)

  11. That’s so great about Obsidio! I found out that my copy that I was acquiring through non-typical channels (friend was supposed to bring one back here) is not going to pan out, so boo 🙁 I guess I’ll have to get it on Kindle, which is of course less fun, but still feasible. Not anytime soon though, I’m afraid. Will have to avoid spoilers like wow 😀

The puppies are adorable! But why does Freddie always look so sad in the photos xD or is it just that Herc looks more upbeat and there’s a contrast? LOL

    Have a great week 🙂

    • Oh no! I’m so sorry you’ll have to wait for Obsidio to arrive. And yes, definitely stay far, far away from spoilers! I almost spoiled myself the other morning, as I had taken a picture of my audiobook for my IG, and so, that’s the book that started playing when I plugged my iPod into the car. Good thing I realized that fairly quickly, eh?
I have no idea why Freddy looks sad… I think he’s a little jealous of Herc from time to time… and since Herc has actually gotten bigger than Freddy, it’s hard for him to keep his place as the alpha dog. I need to make sure he does, though – because he IS the alpha dog.
Have a great week yourself 🙂

  12. I am hoping to read Illuminae very soon. You all have me wanting to read it so badly but I have to finish a few reviews before I can get back to my regular reads.
Congrats on being an Auntie! Again!

    I love those puppies!!!
Miss you lots! I hope you have a fantastic week, Lexxie! Happy Reading! ox

    • I’ve had those books since BEA in Chicago, Michelle, and just recently started listening. I’m loving them, though! And the audio is amazeballs!
Thank you 🙂 I can’t wait to meet my little niece 🙂
Miss you, too! I wish you were going to BookExpo in May! Then we could spend our whole days together! <3

    • Thank you!
I’m surprised you haven’t gone for the audios for this series, Kim. It’s SO good! It has a full cast, so it’s great – plus, when the text in the books spiral, or have a different background, the narration is different as well 🙂
We’re actually supposed to get snow tonight. *sighs* I’m over it!

  13. You sound like an awesome teacher and congrats on being an auntie!
Enjoy your books, I like the Tiffany Reisz OS series. The pups are too cute!

  14. I LOVE your dog pictures. They are such cuties! And I fear my wishlist just grew a bit longer *sigh* We´ve got last night winter coming back with a blast of snow and freezing air. The morning everything was white and covered in a few inches of snow, brrrrrr.

Have a great new week and thanks for sharing those books with us.
    Best wishes

  15. Congrats on the new addition to the family! Being an auntie is so much fun 🙂 The puppies are adorable as always. I can only imagine how time consuming it would be to grade papers. I am so ready for spring to show up at my house too. Have a great week!

  16. I think we’re about to dip back into cold weather. Grading writing takes SO MUCH TIME. It’s why nobody wants to teach 7th grade here because of the writing test. All of our writing teachers are leaving this year – one has only been here a year, the other two only two years. It’s hard. Yay for a new baby!!

    • I love reading my students’ essays, but grading them is really hard! And sometimes, I wonder if they ever actually listen to me when I explain things to them o.O
I hope you’ll find new writing teachers real quick – it must be hard to have several teachers leaving at the same time.

  17. Congrats to your sister! How exciting 🙂 I’ve never listened to an audiobook for the Illuminae books, but it’s got to be pretty cool considering how that series is formatted! Hope you have a great week 🙂

  18. shooting

Congrats to your sister – new babies are always fun!! Ooh French essays don’t have thesis statements? That’s interesting, and I imagine it would be hard to get into the routine of doing! I hope this is a quick week for you – and me too. 🙂

  19. I got the Obsidio audio as well because I simply need it in my life.

Also here the weather has been funky too. Last week it seemed like Spring was rolling around because the weather was actually really nice and it was warm and everything and this week it’s icy cold again.

  20. Eve

Your gifted reminds me I did want to read the Seth books this year having finished the Covenant series last year….need to get on that! Cute pup pics as always. Happy reading!
