15 Day Book Blogger Challenge – Day 1
YAY, I’m so happy I found this book blogger challenge today – because I feel like I’ve been repeating stuff too much lately, and I wanted something new. Thanks April @Good Books and Good Wine for this excellent idea. There’s a link-up at April’s blog if you want to participate as well 🙂
For day one, we need to share 15 bookish confessions… are you ready to dish it out? I know I am :
- The Twilight Saga by Stefenie Meyer is what got me back to reading after a hiatus of several years! Yup, I fell in love with those sparkly vampires so much I needed to find like minded adults after I finished reading it. And that’s how I found first a group of women, then Goodreads, and then blogs. So I guess I should thank Twilight for helping me find a really great community, and expanding my horizons.
- I used to only read ‘serious’ literature and non-fiction. I thought stuff with vampires and werewolves was a little shallow, and didn’t really understand that people liked to read that.
- Now, I read mostly non-fiction myself, and I love paranormal romances. The more I read, the more I want it, too! Faeries, vampires, Gods, supernatural powers – I want it all!
- None of my RL friends (nor my family) is big on reading – I’m the odd duck when it comes to books. Which makes me even happier to have found both the Goodreads community and more recently all the bloggers I follow.
- My TBR grows so fast I know I will never have enough time to read all the books I add to it, and sometimes, I’m afraid I’m going to die before the next book in one of my favorite series will be released. It would suck to never know how the Outlander series ends!
- I am a little addicted to the ‘one-click-button’ on amazon… especially when it comes to cheap or free books. A couple of weeks ago, I added 47 new books to my kindle just because they were free and had cool covers.
- I know I said something about cool covers in 6, but usually, I don’t look at covers when I choose what books to add – but when the books are free, I feel like nice cover design also says something about the quality of the book – because someone obviously took the time to want to make the cover appeal to readers.
- I love Twitter! Because it’s possible to chat with both authors (and internally squee if one of my fave authors tweet me back) and other book-lovers.
- There are some blogs I should almost stay away from – our tastes in books are so similar I cannot leave a review or cover reveal without adding at least one more book to my TBR.
- My reading horizons have expanded tremendously since I found online book communities! And I am not afraid of trying a book in a genre I’m not really familiar with anymore.
- Sometimes, I am the most happy with a book if it makes me cry. A book that can make me cry is a book that made me so involved in the characters, their stories and their heartache that I almost think they’re real. That’s a feat!
- I hardly ever give 1 star to a book. I think there is (most of the time) something that makes it deserve 2 stars, if only the fact that it is more or less grammatically correct, and someone was able to sit down and write all those words and make them into a story.
- I have just discovered audiobooks, and the first one I’ve listened to (Outlander) lulled me to sleep on the plane to Miami in April… I haven’t really listened to it since then. I really want to, though, but I want to live the story – not fall asleep!
- I’m so happy when I come across a gem of a book that is not really well-known yet (for example Untethered by Katie Hayoz) where the premise and the characters are not like others I have read, and where the author can make a world that is just different enough that it is really compelling.
- E-books are my favorites! Before I had my kindle, I usually spent more money on shipping (I live in a French-speaking country, but primarily read in English) than on the actual books. And it took six weeks for books to arrive at my house. Now, I can click a button, and in less than a minute, I have a brand-new book ready to be discovered. Also, I have over 500 books on my kindle, a lot of them not yet read.

Ok, share points 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 15! LOL!! AND here’s my deep, dark confession…I own 2 nooks and 1 kindle. So just imagine how many books I have that still need to be read!
Hehehe, that’s awesome! Not many we don’t share. And I didn’t think about the fact that I own three kindles and two iPads… (with nook apps) so I guess that’s kind of a toss-up 😉

Hi Lexxie! It’s been a while 🙂 I enjoyed reading your confessions. I love books that can take us out of the rut, especially since there are so many books out right now that have almost the same plots and twists.
True, there seems to be books that kind of use a formula, changing a character’s name, and the place the action happens, and voilà – new book…
Great list! Totally relate to most of these. I definitely have a one-click problem and I too have become addicted to Twitter 🙂 I have panic attacks thinking about my TBR sometimes!

So many familiar confessions! Twilight was “YA Gateway Drug” too! I read normal fiction before that but YA was a new world to me.
#6 is me to a “T”! We are #6 Twins! *high 5*
I had to turn that button OFF because my poor Kindle was getting overloaded..lolz..
I realized I did not have to download EVERY free or 99 cent book that looked good.
That said I found A LOT of gems using that button so its not all bad for me..
I cant wait to see the rest of your posts 🙂

I liked Twilight as well, and it hooked me into the YA world as well. In fact, Twilight pulled me out of a reading slump as well. I thought, as an adult, I had to read “serious” fiction as well. But, just like a dinner of raw cookie dough, I discovered that I am FREE to like what I want.
It is almost scary how many of these we have in common…mayeb you are my good twin.
LOL; you want to be the bad twin? 😛 that’s OK with me… but you have to let me have the right to be a little bit mean every now and then, Lyn.

Omg Twilight is actually what got me into YA fiction. I started reading it in 2005/2006 not long after its release and nobody had heard of it. By the time people had heard of it, the whole world was split and I hated it 😛
LOL I got into Twilight pretty late, and I had no idea there was any controversy about it at all. It got me because it made me feel. I’m not so sure what I would think about it if I read it again now, though.
This is a great challenge! I am totally addicted to the one-click button. ? I’ve always been a physical book reader, but lately I find myself loving my ebooks. So much easier to take with me, literally everywhere. Lol..
Yeah, this was a lot of fun to do. And it kept my blog busy during holiday season that year 🙂
I think a lot of book bloggers are one-clickers 😀 It’s just so easy to add more books to our humongous kindle library that way 🙂
