Bought, Bagged and Wrapping it Up is where I share my new books, as well as what happened here at (un)Conventional Bookviews and elsewhere in the blogoshpere. I’m linking up with the usual suspects, AKA Team Tynga’s Reviews, Talk Supe and Caffeinated Reviewer.
STS #152 – Bought Borrowed & Bagged #102
Stacking The Shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews is all about the latest additions to your library – virtual or actual, with books that are bought, borrowed, won or ARCs you will be reading soon. Bought Borrowed and Bagged is a homage to to Barron’s Books and Baubles from KMM’ Fever series, and is hosted by Braine over at Talk Supe. Without further ado, here’s what I bought, borrowed or bagged this past week:
Thank you HarperCollins, Howard Books and Edelweiss!
Thank you Tantor Media!
Of course, I had this beauty on pre-order *sighs* Kate and Curran ♡ ♡ ♡
The Sunday Post # – Wrapping it Up
Kim @ The Caffeinated Reviewer, is our hostess with the mostest for the weekly Sunday Post where I’m wrapping things up. It is the perfect opportunity to share what happened here on my own blog, as well as some of the happenings elsewhere in the Blogosphere.
My week ended up being more busy than anticipated, as instead of just a couple of hours of substitute teaching, I ended up with 12… Yesterday, I had one class that was quite difficult, especially one student who talked back and showed a complete lack of respect. It was exhausting! And it reminded me why I prefer long-term stints. Hopefully, an English teacher will have a happy announcement to make soon (a high school teacher, if possible!) and I’ll be the one they call in for the rest of the year 😉
I didn’t really read much this week, as I spent my free time working on my MA thesis. I haven’t exactly written very much (I kind of feel like Cal Lightman in ‘Lie to Me’) but I have sharpened my focus.
This Week’s Freddy in Action:
This guy has had a hard week! On Monday morning, he was castrated… One of the reasons we decided to do this is that we don’t want him running off! We have an enclosed back yard, but if he really wanted to, he might be able to leave. And as there are a lot of dogs around, he could be tempted when a female dog is in heat. The only thing he’d find just outside of our garden is a quite heavily trafficked road. And dachs hunds aren’t all that easy to spot from a car, you know. He’s been a real trooper, though! Already on Monday afternoon, he was in great shape, and I’m really impressed with his energy. Go Freddy, go!

Did you get some good books last week? What have you been up to this past week? Thanks for stopping by, I hope you’ve enjoyed your weekend, and that next week will be filled with awesome!
Short term would be tough, I would think, for just that reason. If they know you’re not going to be there long are they more likely to be rude? Hoping you get a good call soon. 🙂
Glad to hear Freddy came through his procedure well. Poor guy lol!
One Blood Ruby has a nice cover. Happy reading this week.
Yeah, if they know they won’t likely see me again, they act very differently from if they know I’ll be there for the rest of the year – and grade them…
Yeah, poor Freddy 🙁 But he has done so very well, though.
I’ve had that experience with sub-work, too. Hopefully you get a long term class soon and hopefully your thesis will go more smoothly for you in future.
Poor Freddy! But glad he’s doing well.
That book haul reminds me that I wanted to read the Melissa Landers’ books eventually.
Yeah, especially students in that age-group can be hard to deal with, I think. And that’s why I prefer the older students, too. They are more invested in their education, it seems.
I have that whole series by Landers, and I haven’t started reading (or listening) yet… *sighs*
Twitter: lattenightsbook
I got United, as well! I need to finish this series so now is the perfect way to do it. I hope we both like the audio!
Omg poor Freddy, but it’s good you made the decision. My dog Scruffy would never go off on his own so we never had him on a leach. Suddenly, he would disappear and we had no idea to where or how he would escape until we caught him. He was jumping the fence (he was pretty small and the fence was high but he did it anyway) so he could be with a female dog a few houses down. I felt like I was dealing with a teenager haha I definitely miss him. He was always full of energy. Never sitting down to relax. Just always so hyper.
I actually haven’t started the Landers series, Gen, even if I have all the books. I hope we’ll both enjoy the audio as well 🙂
I know we made the right decision for Freddy, because he’ll be safer that way. Also, he won’t ever make unwanted puppies arrive in a poor, unsuspecting family…
LOL, Scruffy does sound like a teenager when you put it like that!
Awesome haul of books. I hope you love all of your new books. I’m trying to stay away from NG/EW, but I fail. Great stack this week.
Grace @ Books of Love
I try to stay away, too, Grace, and it’s always impossible.
yay for Kate Daniels! That’s a great one! happy reading my friend!
I saw your review the other day, Melliane, and I’m looking forward to reading it myself!
I’m ashamed of myself — I had an eARC of Magic Binds and yet I still haven’t got round to reading it! Fingers crossed we both love it as much as we hope…
Eh, that happens sometimes, Nikki 🙂 I hope we’ll both love it, too!
I have the book for The One That Got Away and hope to read it soon so I hope we both enjoy it! I hope you can get a long term position for this year. Aw poor Freddy – hope he feels better soon! Enjoy your new books and have a great week!
I hope we’ll both enjoy The One That Got Away, Grace! And I’m crossing my fingers for a long term position – it’s so much easier when I can plan my own lessons! Have a great week yourself 🙂
Wonderful looking haul, Lexxie. I like the cover of One Blood Ruby by Melissa Marr. Hope you enjoy all of your new books and have a great weekend. And my get well soon wishes to Freddy, poor little cutie …
best wishes
Vi @ Gone With The Books
I agree, the One Blood Ruby cover is awesome, Vi! And Freddy is doing really well – no pain, and walking and playing as usual 😀
I work in a school, too, as a special education 1:1 aide. I love my job, but sometimes it’s the general ed. kids who are the most difficult to deal with! I can’t stand it when kids have an attitude! Deep breaths… I’m so glad you are able to listen to lots of audio books. I find them so relaxing and I can get other work done at the same time, so i feel like Super Woman! Have a good week.
I agree, sometimes, it’s the kids who have the easier time in school who are those with the worst attitude, and when you’re only there for an hour or two, it’s really hard. The kids think they can get away with more than they would with their own teacher, for sure!
OOoh nice new reads!! I still need to read Seven Black Diamonds and already seeing ARCs of Melissa’s new books makes me cringe! Falling so behind yet again! I really can’t get caught up! LOL! The trouble with wanting to read it all I guess! LOL!
Glad to hear Freddy is doing well. We just had to put the Cone of Shame back on one of our dogs because he was licking his leg raw. Poor baby, though I think he secretly likes the cone because he can whack his head into our shins and be like, “but I can’t help it!”. I swear I see him smile when he does it! LOL!
Hope you enjoy all the new reads this week!
My STS will be up tomorrow, stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I haven’t read Seven Black Diamonds yet, either, Jessica. I have it on my kindle, and I plan on reading both back to back now.
That’s great you got a lot of sub hours in, but I’m sure that was a bit much for one week, especially with a difficult student in one class. I do hope you get a longer term opportunity!
Aw, poor Freddy! That’s great he seems to be doing well. It’s a good thing to have done; you want to be careful and keep him safe.
-Lauren
It’s just so much easier to be their actual teacher! We get to know each other, and there is a real relationship that forms between the students and me when it’s long term.
Freddy is doing great, and I, for one, am very happy we got it done.
Twitter: BerlsS
I have Sugar Rush and United coming my way from Tantor too 🙂 I finished Sugar Baby this week and was like OMG I need the next one, now!
I think subbing has to be harder than teaching – I don’t know if I could do it, unless I was in a long term sub job. So I hope you get one soon! I think spade and neutering animals is the best decision – I know that there are reasons not to, but unless you have a good reason to have them reproduce, it’d better for their health and the overpopulation of animals. The way I see it, you kept Freddy from getting hurt, improved his life span, and made it so that several more unwanted dogs have a chance at a home – instead of the puppies that Freddy may have brought into the world 🙂
Have a great week! Hugs!
I’m so happy you loved Sugar Baby, Berls 🙂 I love how naughty it is, while there is still mystery and hunger for revenge as well!
Subbing is really hard when it’s only short term. And I think the age group 12-15 is a lot harder than 115-19 as well.
I hope you get a long term stint soon, and I hate when students are rude, too.
Good that Freddy came through the procedure….
Your mention of Cal Lightman, of Lie To Me, reminds me that I had been watching that show for a while…and then got distracted to other shows.
Enjoy your week!
Thank you Laurel-Rain! I sure hope so, too 🙂
The show Lie to Me only lasted three seasons, and we’re on the last one now. I don’t want it to end!
You got some great looking books this week, Lexxie. Still, I think you’re spending too much time on those sites you’re supposed to be staying away from. *wink* I’m envious of the Marr book though. I really want to start that series – as I love her writing and I think those covers are stunning! I can’t wait to see what you think of the story.
I’m sorry your week turned out busier than planned but I know you enjoy staying busy. Although I bet it was hard dealing with the disrespectful student. That makes me growl. Grrr!! I’m so happy that Freddy is on the mend!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, wifey!! Miss you & love you! *BIG HUGS*
I know, Brandee! I’ve had a very hard time staying away from those sites. And I really should! Especially because I’m hardly reading at all these days. I’m binge-watching TV shows instead 😮
Yeah, it was hard with that one student, and it made my administrative work load heavier too.
Miss you and love you, too, wifey!! {{hugs}}
Twitter: limabean74
Fingers crossed for you! Sorry that kids was disrespectful. I know how exhausting it can be to have someone that doesn’t respect you.
Love the cover of One Blood Ruby! I really like Melissa Marr’s Books. Will have to look that one up.
Hope Freddy is feeling better, losing those man bits are hard but Dexter doesn’t seem to mind and I am sure Freddy will be good. Give him a kiss for me and make sure he give you one back from me. 🙂
Have a great week, Lexxie! Miss your face, lots and lots oxoxox
Thank you, Michelle! It would be so nice to have enough hours to feel busy, and to keep them for the rest of the school year. But still have time to finish my thesis 🙂
Freddy is doing great, thank you. He bounced back the same day, which is really amazing. He didn’t even need his painkillers for more than one day.
Sorry you had a problematic student this past week and fingers crossed the right opportunity comes along.
You reminded me how much I used to enjoy Lie to Me and then it kinda disappeared. I saw one of the younger guys from the show in something recently and had to work out where he was from.
I know it’s a cliche, but better safe than sorry with Freddy – you really don’t want him wandering off!
My daughter and I love watching Lie to Me together. Sadly, the third season – which we’re watching now – is the last one.
I’ve never heard of audio ARCs before – I didn’t know that was a thing. That’s a good pile of books you’ve got there 😀
Too bad about that subbing experience. I find some students tend to pull some stunts when it’s not their usual teacher because they can “get away with it”. Best of luck for the long term job! Aww I hope Freddie is feels better during the week. He’s adorable!!
I heard about audio ARCs about a year ago, and it’s really nice to have another way with books! I love listening to audio books, so I’m very happy I don’t have to get all my own.
You’re right, some students do tend to try things with temporary subs because they think it won’t matter.
Here’s to a long term position soon, Lexxie:) I’m loving the covers on some of your new books. My dog, Quigley, just has some pretty invasive surgery for a growth on his neck. It didn’t slow him down much at all. Glad to hear Freddy is doing well. Just look at the sweetie!
Thank you, Laura. I really wish something like that will become available to me very soon!
I’m glad Quigley is doing well, even after a more invasive surgery than what Freddy had!
Becoming an English Professor was my high school dream. I lived and breathed English classes in high school, and the teachers even used to leave me in charge for 5 – 10 minutes if they had to go on a bathroom run! (lol) Like you, I also wanted to teach high school English first, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. While working in Group Homes for “at risk” youth we ran into these scenarios all the time, and it was worse with the teen females, so I feel your frustration. Turning just one person around, however, always made it worth it in the long run. Hope you can get some reading in soon, and some rest. Hugs…RO
I will be able to teach in high school once I finish all the necessary diplomas. In the meantime, though, I kind of just have to take what is offered…
I bet it was tough sometimes to deal with at risk youth. And I think some kind of training is needed in order to do that correctly. I haven’t had any formal teaching training yet, hopefully, I’ll learn some conflict resolution and mediation as well as actually teaching, you know?
{{hugs}}
Aw poor bug! But a great call I think. It’s amazing how quickly they bounce back after surgery. Goodness on the surprise number of hours. Work is always a good thing, though, right? 😀 Hope you have a great week!
You’re right, work is a good thing! I just really hope I’ll find something long term rather than a couple of hours here and there.
Have a great week yourself 🙂
Freddie looks so darn cute…and a little…upset or maybe he’s just relaxing. 🙂
I think he was just relaxing, Sherry 🙂
Good luck on your teaching!
I received a few books that look interesting, but they are going on the TBR pile because I have ARCs to read. 🙂 Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen
See, this is a proven I have sometimes, Aleen. I buy books I am really excited about, and then, because I can’t resist the lure of an ARC, I end up putting my bought books on the shelf, and read the ARCs first…
Oh, I can’t wait to read Magic Binds , but I’m too cheap to buy it at that price. I’ll have to wait till the book is out in print, so it matches the rest of my series. Great haul! I hope you enjoy your reading!
I just couldn’t make myself wait, Stacey… I totally get waiting for the print version so your collection looks like a collection, though.
Twitter: talksupeblog
United should be good. My blog buddy loves that series
I really need to start the series. I’ve had those books forever!
Great haul! I hope you enjoy all of these new reads. Magic Binds was fabulous!
Poor Freddy. I hope he is feeling better. He is such a cutie pie! I think it would be really hard to deal with being a substitute. I would be scared to death of having a student that was difficult. Glad you got through it okay. Have a great week!
I hope so, too, Carole 🙂 The one I really can’t wait to read is Magic Binds, your comment only makes me more excited to get started!
Twitter: BookReviewsbyDi
Wow – this is my first visit to your blog and you are busy! 🙂 I’m glad Freddy is pulling through well – it’s never fun though! I hope he continues to feel better and better.
You have a lot of great incoming books this week. I need to start the Magic Bites series – it’s been on my TBR for ages!
Great to come across your blog through these weekly memes. 🙂
Welcome, Di 🙂 it’s nice to meet you. Freddy is in great shape, you’d never know he had surgery if I hadn’t told you 😉

Good luck on getting a more permanent position teaching. I hope Freddy is doing better. He’ll be better in the long run. I love “Lie to Me” I wish it had gotten more seasons.
Thank you, Melanie.
Freddy is great, really. It just amazes me how quickly he’s bounced back!
I wish Lie to Me had more seasons, too. Especially now that I’m closing in on the end of it.
I always hated subbing!! Its such a tough job! Long term positions would be much better so hopefully that will happen for you!
Hope you have a great week!!
Subbing is OK when it’s long term, but just hourly gigs are killing me 🙁 Have a great week yourself, Samantha.
Magic Binds!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!! Sugar Rush is a good grab too.
I know! Magic Binds!!!! *excited*
Awww poor Freddy – it’s for the best though buddy! hehe 🙂 Glad he’s feeling better already! I still need to get into that Melissa Landers trilogy – thanks for the reminder my friend! Have a lovely week xxx
Twitter: kbaby81
Hope you enjoy all of these! Especially, Magic Binds!! Can’t wait to read your review!
Oh Nice haul Lexxie! I am curious about that Melissa Landers series. Have you read the first book? was it good?
Sounds like a busy and difficult week work wise. I can understand you prefer a long time stint, then you have time to get to know the class and they you.
I am glad to hear Freddy came through the surgery okay and was already doing well again the same evening. I hope this week is a good one for you!
Can you believe I own all the books, but haven’t read any of them yet, Lola?
This week is much better, so last week is far away now 🙂
