Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts #64
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts, an original weekly meme hosted here at (un)Conventional Bookviews. So many of the books I read have food or drinks in them, some I’d love to try, and others I’d never ever want to taste… and I thought it could be interesting and fun to share some food and / or drink quotes… If you want to participate, you can grab my logo if you’d like, or you can make your own, but please link back to me in your own post.
The idea of Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts is to share a quote with food or drinks that showed up in a recent read, as well as if it’s something you think you’d like or not. Please share the title of the book it happened in, as well as the character who ate or drank the special little something you discovered between the pages of a good read. Please link up beneath, and visit other bloggers who are participating in Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts as well.
A few weeks ago, I buddy-read Pent Up by Damon Suede with Brandee @ Bookworm Brandee. One of the two MC, Ruben, was a recovering alcoholic, but there were still lots of drinking going on, and Ruben noticed that almost every time…
My Thirsty Thursday quote:
The toxic sticker shock only raised more flags. Ruben’s breath rose high and cold in his chest. All this fucking luxe. Who was this Bauer guy? What the hell was Ruben doing up here?
Off-kilter, Ruben finally looked at the wineglass in his hand. “I don’t drink.” Why had he admitted that?
The cocky grin faltered.
Fuck anonymity. “Not anymore.” Ruben set the glass on a Lucite trunk serving as an end table. Four grand easy. Inside the trunk was a polished bear skull. He had no fucking idea what a bear skull cost. He blinked. “Sober.”
“Sorry. Good for you.” Bauer picked up the glass. “Water? Soda?”
Thanks for stopping by today, I look forward to reading your Thirsty Thursday and Hungry Hearts quote. Have a terrific Thursday and don’t forget to link up.
I haven’t read any of Damen Suede’s books yet. On the long waiting list, sigh…
Love seeing the character being strong about his sobriety.
I know that feeling, Sophia Rose. you are right, being honest and strong about his sobriety is really something that stood out about Ruben.
I think I’m most curious about the polished bear skull in the trunk. Because … what the heck? lol.
I know, right? What do you do with a polished bear skull? And why is it in the trunk?
Interesting excerpt! A polished bear skull? Thanks for sharing….
Yeah, thank goodness that wasn’t part of the eating or drinking, Laurel-Rain 😉
I think I may have to go back and use a few quotes from Pent Up! I’m not sure I highlighted any…can’t remember. But I sure did enjoy buddy reading with YOU! <3
Enjoy your day, my friend! 5…5 more days!! **BIG HUGS**
There were some great quotes in Pent Up, Brandee. I love the highlight function on my kindle – it helps me all the time – both for my fave quotes and for my TT&HH quotes.
5 days, you say? *happy dances* *BIG HUGS*
Ah, I did a drink this time around too.
See my TTHH
That’s funny! I seem to find food quotes more often, although I actually got the idea for this meme because of a great drink quote 🙂

I look forward to that buddy review… and you’re making me crave for a stiff drink. It’s just Thursday here, but I’m on a Friday mood already!
The buddy review is already up, Braine 😉 We had a lot of fun with it! And I actually thought it was Monday this morning, so you can guess how happy I was when I realized it’s actually Friday 😀
I have to admit I’m a little lost with what’s going on in the quote :-/ But I like what you said about how he was a recovering alcoholic and always noticed whenever there was alcohol. It’s that kind of attention to detail that makes characters so realistic.
